Reflections of the Past
by Utena-chan

Setsuna was restless. She had tried everything to get some
sleep but it was to no avail. Quietly, she slipped out of the
bed, careful not to awaken her sleeping husband. She moved
across the room...through the door...down the hall...to the
dining room and opened the sliding glass door that led out to
the small but elegant terrace.

It was a beautiful summer night, Setsuna mused as she
looked out at the glittering city laid out before her. The playful
breeze coming from the ocean ran its invisible fingers through
her long hunter green hair and the moonlight bathed her frame
revealing her bulging stomach through the emerald green silk
nightgown she wore.

She was seven-months pregnant. Never in this lifetime had she
thought to have children of her own. She was the Guardian of
Time. How come she had not seen this coming? Nevertheless
she welcomed her pregnancy with open arms and embraced
the idea of becoming a mother.

Setsuna closed her eyes allowing the sounds to carry her
away to the reminders of the past. She could smell the scent
of autumn in the air as she moved quietly making her way down
the narrow path of the Tomoe Estate. She had come here to
gather Hotaru from her Father and prepare her for her role as
Sailor Saturn, senshi of Death and Rebirth.

She had found the happy family enjoying the beautiful day
outside. Tomoe Souichi seemed more alive than he had been
since he had rid himself of Pharoh 9. Hotaru was the most
important person in his life. He loved the little girl unconditionally.

It was then she had made her presence known and Tomoe Souichi
had greeted her with a dashing smile. It seemed to be an
awkard moment for her but duty was duty and Hotaru was
vital to the groups next battle. She explained that she had come
to take her and prepare her for her destiny.

Souichi couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had just
gotten out of the hospital some time ago and was looking
forward to a new life. With great sadness, he allowed his
only child to be taken from him.

Shortly after the battle with Galaxia and before the birth
of Crystal Tokyo, Setsuna had returned to the Tomoe Estate
with Hotaru. She had not meant to tarry around but he had
been so charming and he persued her. It had taken her only
three months for her to realize that she had fallen in love him.

For New Year's Eve, he had treated her to a private dinner
where shortly after they retired from the dining room to the
den. It was then just as the clock struck midnight signalling
a New Year that he had proposed to her and with tears running
down her beautiful face she had said yes.

It had been a week before she had gathered the others to tell
them of the good news. Usagi had jumped for joy and quickly
began to plan with the wedding with the others and Hotaru
threw her arms around her neck and asked that if she could
call her "Mama" now.

Setsuna felt her heart constrict in joy with the thought and
nodded yes to her future stepdaughter. Again the two embraced
each other.

The wedding had been set for Valentine's Day and when the
day had arrived she had been nervous as a newborn kitten. She
had designed her own wedding gown with small flowers and
hearts along her bodice and her train done up in mother-of-
pearl seeds and she had asked if Mamoru would give her away.

It had been a beautiful wedding. All the senshi were in
attendance as they watched Setsuna pledge herself to a man
she would love for a lifetime. They had all been happy and
surprised that their lonely time guardian had finally found love.

They had honeymooned all over Europe for two months and
when they returned Souichi had sold the Estate and settled
in a spacious condo near the park.

What seemed to be centuries past was only two years ago
and now as Setsuna opened her eyes here was she was. She
was happily married to a man she would lay down her life and
now deep inside she understood the love shared between
Usagi and Mamoru. It had always hard for her to believe in love
especially with the job she had. Yet Souichi had been
exceptionally understanding to her sudden disappearances,
never once had he questioned them nor did he believe she
was seeing anyone else. He had complete faith in his wife.

She had been so wrapped up in her thoughts that she had not
heard the footsteps behind her and had jumped when arms wrapped
themselves around her, slightly above the bulge of her stomach. She
had nearly jumped out of her skin.

"Gomen nasai, my love," Souichi had whispered tenderly in her
ear, pulling her close to him. "Why are you not asleep?"

"I wasn't sleepy," she admitted sheepishly. She laid back against
him and placed her head back on his shoulders.

"What were you thinking of when I found you?" He asked.

Setsuna lifted her head and turned around to face him, studying
him in the moonlight. He was more handsome than ever with his
short silvery-white hair and his vivid blue-grey eyes. He was slightly
an inch taller than her but it didn't bother her. She couldn't wear
heels anymore at least til she gave birth.

"I was just reflecting on the past nothing more," She answered
finally still wrapped up in his arms. "I never told you thank you
for giving me everything I ever dreamed of. It is because of you
that I can look forward to the future without being lonely. It is
because of you I can dream again."

Tears were streaming down her face and Souichi reached up
and wiped away them from his wife's face. He had never thought
he would have loved again ever since his first wife had died. He
had actually given up hope on love til she had walked into his life.
She had been so exquisite dressed in that designer two-piece
suit and she had reminded him of himself. He had thought he would
see her again til she had reentered his life and knew he could
never let her go again.

"Aishiteru, my beloved," he said softly.

"Aishiteru, my dearest," she returned and lifted her face as his
swept down and claimed her lips.
