Slayers Fan Fiction ❯ The Omen ❯ Parts 1 to 8 ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
The Omen (part 1 of 12)
Zel paced his cell disturbed. he sat down on his cot and with a desperate sigh,
ran his fingers through his violet hair. "I'm Just not good enough."

The desolate young priest had been feeling this way for sometime now. Being
the grandson and great grandson to the Holiest of Priests, Rezo the Red, was
quite a difficult thing to live up to. And he was failing, miserably.

"how am I going to explain to him. How can I tell him that.. I'm just not made to
be a priest." Zel sighed. It would not be an easy task. The Greywords family had
been powerful and influential all their lives. During a sweep of sickness most of
the family had been wiped out. Gone before the great rezo could come and save them.
All except for Zelgadis that is. He barely hung on when Rezo found him shaking
and gasping from illness. He never fully recovered but inside his heart was strong.
Even if his body wasn't.

Zel did what he always did when he was depressed. He prayed. "Dear God.. help me
find the holy path you have chosen for me.. amen."

Soon zel settled down for what he hoped would be a peaceful rest.

It wasn't.

Zelgadis was instantly awake, heart pounding, as something slammed into his poor
body, pressing him into the mattress. What ever it was, it was angry, cursing
and ... had its breasts in his face??

Very female.

"Oh God fogive me for I have sinned.." Zel murmured as the creature scrambled to get off him.

The petite red head managed to free herself from the sheets and what seemed
to be bits of plaster and curtains. "Ah sorry about that." she grinned
staring down at the perplexed young man. "didn't expect to hit down so hard."
she added helping him to a sitting position.

Zel blushed. "Ahm.. who, who are you?"

"Oh.. ah ha ha.. I'm Lina! Arch Angel supreme and God sent me here to help,
guide, and protect you!" Lina exclaimed producing a victory V.

Zel took the time to finally look at his.. ah ..angel. She was petite but the
scantly white armor with traces of white cloth, edged in gold and silver,
showed more of her 'heavenly body' than Zel though god would allow. Well the
God he read about anyway. But she was clearly and angel since a pair of beautiful
silvery pink wings spouted from her back.

Zel blushed even further and asked.."Um do you normally wear that.."

Lina sweat dropped. "Well actually its archangel uniform and the wouldn't give me
the kind the guys wear. It gets pretty cold up there too. I think heaven's
full of dirty old men if you ask me !" she grumbled trying unsuccessfully
to drag the cloth part of the skirt lower.

"oh." Zel said, stupefied. "i guess my prayers were answered then."

***

Zelgadis read the same sentence, in the same passage, on the same page of
his bible for what seemed like the 17th time. His mind was abuzz with the
idea that heaven had a strange sense of humor.

On one hand, if God had sent Lina to help him become more priestly, which
he doubted since he couldn't help but wish repeatedly that he was anything
but, he was in trouble. On second hand if his path wasn't the way of the
priest, which he preferred, he was troubled by the fact that one doesn't
usually engage in a relationship with a REAL angel.

'I'm screwed.' Zel whined.

Lina stopped swinging her legs and finished browsing through her book. Closing
it with a soft bang she pipped up, "So you finished yet? Can we go?"

Zel started and gaped at her confused. "Go? Where?"

Lina sweat dropped. "You mean you've not been told yet?" As Zel shook his head
she sighed. "Guess it's my job to fill ya in then."

She waited until Zelgadis gave her his complete attention before starting.
"Now Zel, you know all about the war between the angels correct?" He nodded.
"Well, see when Gabriel fought his brother they were both banished from heaven.
Gabby of course got time off for good behavior, and that only made his bro even
angrier. So the 'All Mighty Evil One' decided to give humanity one hell of a
kick in the pants and developed this prophecy. the prophecy states that his
son, the prince of darkness, shall be reborn unto the human race to cause
terror and destruction until Humanity is basically no more. And well The
prince has been among humans for some time now." She griminced.

"WHAT!" Zel cried in disbelief, "And and nothing has been done!"

"Calm down Zel!" Lina continued, "It's not finished yet. Well You know that
Gabby got time off for good behavior and was allowed back into heaven right?
Well it turns out that he was down on earth long enough to fool around with
an earth girl and well.. got her knocked up. Which in our case is going to
be a very good thing. See the child of Gabriel will have the goodness and
purity to defeat the prince of darkness! All WE have to do is.. find the
Child Of Light, Gabriel's descendant."

Zel swallowed and digested the news. It was all rather shocking, and
sudden. Imagine, Zelgadis Greywords, the not so holy priest, had to
go out and help save the world. "So," he finally said after some time
had passed, "Who is the child of light?"

"No clue."

Zel face faulted into the floor and groaned in agony. 'Why me?'

"Buuut! I do know the name of the city the child's family lives in
PLUS the name of the child of light's guardian angel!" Lina said,
helping the dejected priest to his feet. "So it's not soo bad. We
get to go on a little adventure! How hard can that be?"

Zel managed a small smile. "I suppose."

"Great!" With that Lina grabbed his satchel and Zel's hand and the
two raced out the door and down the hall. Before they exited the
church, Zel spied his Great grandfather and Grandfather rezo, but
at their present velocity he only managed to blurt out a quick, "Hi
Rezo, Bye rezo" before they were long gone.

Rezo the Red Priest, on of the more outstanding and powerful cardinals
of his profession raised an eyebrow and faced the general direction
his young relative went. "Do I really want to know?" he pondered.
"Probably not." And he entered the church.

***

Zel sat quietly, trying his hardest not to blush. Unfortunately his
hardest just wasn't quite good enough, and he was failing, BADLY.
In fact his entire face was a rather vivid shade of reddish pink,
and it seemed to be spilling out onto his ears and neck.
Lina splashed in the small pool, on the other side of Zel's tree,
bathing the dirt and grime off of her body. They had been traveling
for sometime now and she was tired.

The two of them had called a rest at the conveniently placed pond.
Zel was still uninformed as to their destination, but under present
circumstances, he wasn't about to ask anything.

"So Zel, tell me about yourself." Lina called out breaking the
silence that had been bothering her for sometime.

"Huh? Oh.. well.. what's there to know. I'm a terrible priest,
from a family of VERY good priests and influentialy powerful, not
to mention important even in death, people. I'm still quite
weak from the illness that claimed my family and.." He was
interrupted as Lina popped her head around the trunk to look
at him.

"Not much self confidence ya got there." she stated
sarcastically.

"Um.. well.. I.." Zel babbled realizing she was just TOO
close, "Oh forgive me father for i have sinned.." he prayed
again, his eyes digging holes into the earth.

Lina shrugged and surrendered, and went back to her bath.
'Says that a lot too.'

After a nice meal the duo pressed onward.

"S.. Say Lina. Where are we going anyway?" Zel finally asked.

Lina started, having gotten used to his complete silence,
except for his moments of praying. "Ah... We're going to
the holy city of Sai Rag. Under the great tree of Flagoon
there shall we be destined to meet the descendant of Gabriel."
she preached, as if reading from a bible.

Zel looked thoughtful "And how will we know him when we see him?"

"Oh I'm sure something obvious will pop up." Lina stated, "Gabby
was known for his holy might, not his brains."

"Oh, Well that's helpful." Lina snickered in reply.

"Careful Zel, someone might think you're actually enjoying
yourself," she cooed.

Zel blushed but smiled a little in return. "Well one never
knows. The day's still young yet." Lina laughed.

'Hmm maybe this trip really will be a Blessed Adventure.'
Zel thought, his tormented thoughts, finally at peace.

Else ware, yet someplace still important, a lone figure sat,
brooding on his perch. Pouting, in boredom, the dark stillness
was shattered by his wail, "I'M Bored!" The prince was getting restless.

***

Zel couldn't sleep. He had been laying on his inn bed for hours
staring at the ceiling. He sighed, as his mind whirled about,
as usual, centering on one vivacious red head.
They had arrived at this town close to evening. It was a quiet
place, well had been anyway. As soon as some of the locals got a
good look at Lina's outfit there had been no end of "Hey baby
why don'tcha shake a lil of that this way" as well as "praise
the lord" and "amen". Though none were ment as holy praise.

Needless to say they hot tailed it to the nearest inn, where
Zel gave Lina one of his robes to wear. The pale colored robe
made Lina appear to be more like a medieval princess. But it
didn't stop. No that would've been too easy.

As they sat down to a nice, and large in his angel's case,
dinner they were still bombarded by ignorant questions, from the young locals to the old.

"Are you a princess?"

"Can you do magic tricks?"

"Are you on the run from an evil sorcerer guys who wants to force you to marry him?"

"Is he your boyfriend?"

"Are you REALLY going to eat ALL that food?"

"Are you naked underneath that robe?"

"Um seriously are you REALLY REALLY going to eat all that??"

It was a long day.

So here they were, side by side, in a cramped yet clean bed. Lina
had warded the door, so NO ONE could come in. As soon as she crawled
over and lay down she had conked out into angel la la land, and Zel
was left there pondering his own emotions.

'Well.' Zel started, sparing his bed mate a sweet glance. 'It's time
you came clean with yourself Zelgadis. Sure she's the first female
you come in contact with in a LONG time. She even went so far as to
smash her chest in your face, and you liked it admit it. But really,
sure she's cute, and exciting, and the forbidden fruit lure is verra
tempting but.. is she your type?' He argued with himself.

'Well, do I even have a type? If I did she'd have to be fun and petite
so I'd still be taller than her, cuz face it the sickness left me kind
of short; the healers themselves said that I wouldn't be very tall in
the future, even though I'm only 17 now, she comes up to my chin. Which
is the prefect hight for a girl, really. And red hair is such a nice
color, full of life and fire. Her's is really soft and wavey, reaching
down to her legs. Lina has real Long and very sexy legs, the kind that
could just... WOA!!'

"For give me father for i have sinned.." Zel mumbled sheepishly, the impure
thoughts having gotten the best of him, again.

He rolled over and faced Lina. 'She's lovely when she sleeps.' he thought.
'I wonder if I even stand a chance.'

Zel closed his eyes and snuggled closer to his angel. 'Maybe only in my
dreams.' was his final thought when he finally drifted off.

The prince of darkness paced his chambers to and fro, before coming to
his decision. "Yo Pops! I'm gonna go out for a while." he shouted into
the darkness and left.

'Time for something evil.' he thought wickedly.

"Oh really? And how far did you think you'd get without me huh?" a voice
shattered into his thoughts.

'Oh man.. not him.' The young prince groaned, giving his guardian the evil
eye. "You just have to follow me everywhere don't you? How am i supposed
to pick up chicks with you hanging around all the time?" he growled.

The dark angel laughed, "At your age? HA! Nice try boyo!"

The prince stewed in his anger and stomped off. His guardian close behind.

***

Zel was having the best dream ever. He was holding his darling tightly in
his arms, caressing her and giving her sweet loving kissing. He gazed deeply
into his sweet heart's eyes and said "darling I.."
Zel saw stars as someone's fist smacked him upside the head. "Are You EVER
GOING TO WAKE UP DAMN IT!!!!!" Lina screamed into his ear.

Zel jumped back realizing that he was REALLY holding onto his dream girl
and actually fell off the bed, in fright.

"Li.. Lina I.. I.. Sorry!" Zel blurted out embarrassed beyond comprehension.

Lina snorted. "Serves me right for trying to share a bed with a teenage boy.
Even if he is a priest."

Zel's face turned an alarming shade of rouge, and apologized again. "Say,
uh Lina.. did.. did I.. uh?"

"Hold me? Squeeze me? Caress me? Kiss me? and call me your start light love?"

Zel blushed some more. "Um.. yeah?"

"All except the last one." Lina answered. "But you still have some time before
breakfast if you wanna try for it."

Zel groaned and buried his face in his hands. Lina barely caught the words
'kill me god', and giggled.

"NE, Zel? Aren't priests supposed to have given up on all the sex stuff?
or am i misinformed?" Lina asked between laughter.

Zel sighed, miserable and barely made eye contact. "Technically we're
supposed to but once we're old enough and have served our time, we can
actually become more involved in the opposite sex." Zel informed her.

"You make it sound like a prison sentence." Lina quipped.

Zel gave her the 'And-It-Isn't?' look which set her off laughing again.
"Come on Zel let's go get some breakfast!"

Zel marched wearily behind his angel, sighing in despair. 'I can't believe
I did that.' he groaned. 'I DON'T WANT TO BE A PRIEST!'

"Did you say something ZEL?" Lina asked curious.

"No. Nothing."

The prince of darkness ran through the streets dodging this way and that.
He raced around a corner, panting, and looked behind him. 'FINALLY!
Finally I've lost that annoying..'

"Phibrizo.. what are you doing." an amused voice spoke up from behind
the dark haired boy.

"VAL!!!!" he cried, spinning around. "DAMN IT! LEAVE ME ALONE!!!"

"Don't I wish that were possible Hell brat." Val mused, as the boy had
a hissy fit on the alley floor. "It's not like I don't have anything I'd rather be.. HELLO!"

Phibrizo paused and looked up to see what had caught his guardian's
attention. "oh shoulda guessed."

Across from they entrance way were two lovely ladies, giggling and
chatting away. The Dark Angel Val had given them his complete attention,
so complete in fact he never noticed his charge slip away. Forgetting
his mission, the angel approached the two maidens and using his charm,
stayed happily occupied for some time.

Prince Phibrizo chuckled and skipped along the street. 'Val is funny
sometimes. Imagine going gaga over a bunch of old broads in skirts!
Now GIRLS are another story!' the adolescent demon thought with glee.

He couldn't wait till he found his "Dark Princess". Heck he couldn't
wait to find the rejects. He was young, wild, and just hit puberty.
He was also A LOT like his father, a well known womanizer himself.

Phibrizo walked out of town and onto the open road. "Now's my time to
shine! Blah that rhymed!" he spit and started running hoping to get
as much distance as possible between his angel and himself.

***

Lina and Zel were traveling the road once again. They were about two
days away from Sai Rag, on foot.
"Say Zel, tell me about yourself. What did you want to be when you
were a kid? Why'd you become a priest?" Lina asked.

"Well, I always wanted to be a sorcerer swordsman. As for becoming a
priest, well the reason would be my grandfather, Rezo." Zel answered.

"Oh? He inspired you or something?" she guessed.

"Nope. See I'm basically the last of the Greywords line. Rezo is my
guardian and he raised me when my family died and I was sick. Well Rezo,
you must know, is the Amazing Red Priest, so I didn't have a choice but
to become a priest." Zel clarified.

"Bummer. So what now? You still want to be a priest?" she pressed.

"No I still really want to be a sorcerer swordsman." Zel admitted, "I
even learned almost all the shamanism type spells there are, including
Ra Tilt. But... my body is just too weak to even lift a sword." Zel mused, unhappily.

Lina pondered him for a while before coming up with an answer. "You
know.. I could fix that." she started, gaining Zel's complete and avid
attention. "I just need to perform a little miracle, nothing major."

"Lina." Zel smiled like a lovesick poodle.

Lina stood still and concentrated on her miracle. "Oh, blessed hand of
God, I beseech thee and thy earth to come before me. Show your great love
and compassion to all and deliver this young soul his heart's desire!
I call forth.. A MIRACLE!" Lina called out and glowed a brilliant gold.
Zel covered his eyes from the brightness of the light and slowly saw
the concentration of pure white spilling from her chest.

In a flash the lights were gone and there stood the archangel, Lina Inverse,
holding a magnificent sword. "Here Zel. One miracle." she offered.

"Lina... its beautiful." she gasped taking the blade by its golden hilt.
"And its so light!" he cheered swinging the blade easily. "Lina I Love You!"
he sang and spun her around in a great hug then kissed her firmly on the mouth.

Lina watched stunned as Zel practiced with his blessed blade. 'Wow.' she
thought, 'He sure knows how to make a girl feel.. loved.' she blushed and
cleared her thought. "Come on Zel, we're almost to Sai Rag."

"Coming!" Zel said and they traveled on, Zel smiling for probably the first time in his life.

Phibrizo kicked another rock. "This traveling stuff is kinda boring. I need
some action. I Need a Town!" he complained to no one. he looked up to see
a giant mother of a tree in the distance.

"Hmm that looks like fun!" he thought aloud and took of running for Sai Rag.

***

Rezo stood before the Holy Council, lost in thought. 'So the young prince is
on the move, and Zelgadis is already on his way.' he mused when he was interrupted.
"Um G.. Great Rezo there is a slight problem." the head of the chapel stuttered.
"You see, we fear that young Zelgadis isn't exactly fit for the position he's been assigned."

"Oh? How so?" Rezo asked.

"Well... he's terrible at scripture, falls asleep during masses, refuses to learn
the holier white magics, only the earthy shamonic ones, he even had a woman in his
room last night.." the list went on and on as Rezo sweat dropped.

'Perhaps I'm more blind than I thought.' Rezo despaired as more and more of his
grandson's unpreistly exploits were brought to his attention.

Meanwhile, in the under world, a young, slightly sheepish dark angel entered to make his report.

"Hello Val! How's Phibby?" a devilishly cheery voice called out.

"Good question." Val replied, "Well ya see boss... I lost your kid."

The Almighty Evil One glided into the room. His shoulder length purple hair
billowed seductively as one finger tapped against his pursed lips.

"Hmm, my my That boy is such a trouble maker. I'm SO Proud! Well let's see
where the little scamp has wondered off to shall we!" Xellos smirked and
led the way to the viewing room.

***

Sai Rag, the wondrously holy city built around the world's biggest birch tree,
named Flagoon. A city known, not only for it's absurdly huge foliage, but
also for it's really yummy cheeses and other dairy products. Sai Rag, home
of Gabriel's descendant.
Lina and Zel walked into town pleased. They had finally arrived and soon
they would face their destinies, But first a snack.

They stopped at the local stands and purchased enough cheeses, cold cuts,
breads, crackers, and a bottle of wine for a small picnic and headed off
to the tree. Under Flagoon's massive branches, they sat down and enjoyed their meal.

"Say Lina.. I was wondering." Zel began. "I've talked quite a bit about
myself, but what about you? How'd you become an arch angel?"

"Well... ya see..." Lina started.

"Hi Lina! Long time no see!" a happy masculine voice piped out, followed
by a stunningly handsome blonde haired babe. He was waving and swinging
a giant picnic basket from one arm, a shy, but lovely dark haired woman at his side.

"Hi Lina!" the longhaired beauty smiled serenely as they joined them.

"Umm who are you?" Lina asked confused.

"Gee Lina, I thought I was the one who couldn't remember stuff!" He
smiled stupidly.

Zelgadis decided now was a good time to but in and see if what he
suspected was true. "Hi! Zelgadis Greywords." he introduced himself,
shaking the happy blonde's hand. "You?"

"Oh! Gourry Gabriel! And this is my wife Syfiel!" Gourry explained.

"AND I Am Amelia Will Tessa Gabriel! Defender of Justice! And Child
of Light!" a young girl's voice shouted out from above.

Everyone's gaze shot skywards in time to see said defender slip and
begin to plummet. Just before the Girl landed face first in the ground
a beautiful angel swooped down
from the heaven and caught her.

"Thankyou! Angel Filia!!" Amelia peeped as her guardian angel set
her gently on the ground.

"FILIA!!" Lina cried.

"LINA!!!" Filia returned.

"HOW ARE YOU!!!" they squealed and jumped up and down in a very girly manner.

"I take it our quest is over then?" Zel butt in.

The two heavenly creatures calmed down and got to business.
Well they tried to anyway, the conversation was mostly of gossip.

Zel sighed and sat down on one of the roots. Amelia, who was
just a tiny girl, probably no more than nine, with jet-black
hair like her mother's and dressed in a white jumpsuit plopped down at his feet.

"Who're you?" she asked.

"Zelgadis."

Are you a good guy?" she asked.

"Yes."

"Will you marry me when I grow up?" she pressed.

"LINA!!! get this kid away from me!"

Lina paused, about to ask Filia about them other knowing who she
was when Zel cried for help. She sighed and went over to
rescue him. 'Guys, can't do anything.'

Soon enough they were all enjoying a nice festive picnic. Zel
sitting as far away from his new worshipper and as close to his
angel as he could get. Filia close to her charge, Sylphiel close
to both child and husband. Lina and Gourry, of course, sat closest to the food.

"Hey! that's My Sausage!" Gourry whined as Lina swiped the piece
of meat. "Sheesh Lina, you sure eat a lot more. And when did you
start dressing so funny? Usually you wear a lot less, though you
don't have much to show off being flat and all.." he commented foolishly.

Before Lina could pound the living daylights out of the blonde
fool, a great big rock beat her to it. A young boy, who stood panting
and angry just ahead of them, hurled it.

"DON'T YOU EVER TALK ABOUT MY MOTHER THAT WAY!!" Phibrizzo cried
angrily and flew into Lina's startled arms, burying his tearing face in her bosom.

"Wha?" Lina asked.

"DID?" Zelgadis panicked.

"YoU?" Filia blurted.

"Say?" Sylphiel added.

------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------

Xellos stared into the globe before him with open eyes. He
wasn't smiling, or emitting an emotion of any kind, except perhaps shock.
Val stood by his master intrigued. 'So this is the boss' Ex. Kinda
cute, wonder why they split up?'

"Val." Xellos spoke finally, startling his minion. "We are leaving at once."

Val nodded and left, leaving Xellos alone with the image. He caressed
the globe as if he could really touch the woman's face he saw. "I hope
you haven't started anything serious... my love." he whispered. "For I
intend to have you back... by ANY means necessary." he smiled evilly
and laughed his villainous laugh as he too left for their journey.
