[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Sonic, Sonia, and Manic arrived at the Mobotropolis Palace.

Queen Aleena was standing in the courtyard, waiting for them.

Sonia rushed over to Queen Aleena. "Mother! Oh, I'm so happy to see you."

"There's my baby." Queen Aleena said, hugging Sonia.

Sonic and Manic looked at each other. "She's your mom?" They asked.

Sonia nodded. "It's a custom in the Mobotropolis royal family for young heirs and heiresses to live among the commoners to understand their way of life."

"You'll need a few more years among the commoners." Sonic said, smirking. "You're still pretty spoiled."

Sonia grimaced. "Ha, ha; very funny."

Queen Aleena laughed and patted Sonia on the shoulder. "Yes, she still has a few more years of living among the citizens."

Manic looked around. "Nice place, but Mobodoon is my home." He thought. "I would love to rebuild my home."

Aleena looked at Manic's arm, which still had the echidna emblem burned into it. "You were an echidna slave?" She asked. "How'd you get away?"

"Slipped out of my shack in the middle of the night when no one was looking." Manic replied.

"I would love to hear the story over breakfast." Queen Aleena said, leading the hedgehogs into the palace. "We have your armor ready for you. You can inspect it after you have a good meal."

Aleena led the hedgehogs into the armory room and motioned to the three sets of armor laying neatly on a table. "This is your armor and new swords."

"Oh, no offense, your highness." Sonic said. "But this is identical to our old armor and swords."

"Not quite." Aleena replied. "Your armor will give you an advantage, Sonic."

Sonic scoffed. "I'm already the fastest thing alive."

"I didn't mean your speed." Aleena said. "You'll see; go out and spin dash in it."

Sonic put the armor on and raced out.

Sonic noticed a nearby tree and curled into a ball. He flung himself at the tree. He put a cannonball-sized hole into the tree and brought it down.

Sonic landed on the ground and uncurled. He turned around to inspect the damage. "Wow."

Sonic raced back into the palace, grinning. "I spin dashed through a thick oak tree, you should've seen me!"

Manic, who was in his armor, was rubbing his ears. "Ugh… it makes a noise like a cannon when you take off."

"Sorry, little bro." Sonic said.

"I can spin through a wall with my new armor." Sonia said, motioning to the armor she was currently wearing.

"Mine doesn't do anything." Manic muttered.

"We had no time to make you some armor when we were informed of your visit, Manic." Queen Aleena said. "However, we did make you a sword. There's a button on the hilt."

Manic drew his sword and pressed the top of the hilt.

The entire sword glowed green and crackled with electricity.

"That is so cool." Sonic said.

"Yours does the same thing." Queen Aleena replied.

Sonic and Sonia tested their swords.

Sonic's sword glowed blue while Sonia's glowed red.

"I'm not crazy about using swords, but we are up against the Master Emerald." Sonic said. "We need all the advantages we can get."

"Oh, and Manic's sword has one more ability." Queen Aleena said.

Manic pressed the top of the hilt again.

The sword stopped glowing.

"It does?" Manic asked.

"Strike the ground with your sword." Queen Aleena replied. "Outside of the palace, that is."

Manic shrugged and headed outside.

Sonia, Sonic, and Queen Aleena followed Manic.

Manic struck the ground with his sword.

Some large chunks of the ground flew into the air, striking a nearby tree.

"Whoa." Manic said. "It's amazing, but how can I control it?"

"Just point the sword in the direction you want the dirt to go." Queen Aleena replied.

Manic looked over the sword. "How did you make this?"

Sonia gave Manic a look.

"You'd have to talk with our craftsman, Tails." Queen Aleena replied. "I don't quite understand his answers, but he'd be more than happy to talk to you about it if he was here. He's currently away, teaching artisans and craftsmen in other countries."

"We'll have to catch him later." Sonic said. "It works, Manic. That's all you need to know right now."

Manic put his sword back into its scabbard. "Alright, let's go." He replied. "So… where do we go from here?"

Queen Aleena handed Sonia another scroll while Sonic and Manic were talking amongst themselves.

Sonic waited until they were out of sight of the palace before stopping in a clearing. He set Manic and Sonia down.

"Why are we stopping?" Sonia asked.

"Why were you serving at Knothole palace before the treaty was signed?" Sonic asked. "That's a conflict of interest, isn't it?"

"That was an instrumental part of signing the treaty." Sonia replied. "Mother didn't tell me where to go. Once she found out that I was in Knothole, she asked me about how life was there and was there anything we could agree about. When I told her I saw no reason for war, she sent a peace delegation."

Manic crossed his arms. "Sounds suspicious."

"I don't know." Sonic said. "I see both of your points, but we've got bigger problems to worry about. Besides, if she's sending a craftsman to other areas, she's not too interested in war."

Sonia and Manic nodded in agreement.

Sonia pulled out the scroll. "I guess we can read this now."

"Where'd you get that?" Manic asked.

"None of your business." Sonia replied. "Okay… we… what? Manic is supposed to train at some monastery in Tralacet before we continue."

"I can fight and I can use a sword." Manic said, pulling his sword out of the scabbard. He pressed the top of the hilt.

The sword glowed green and crackled with electricity.

"We don't have time for that and his sword is a triple threat anyway." Sonic said. "He'll be fine."

Sonia huffed. "Fine; it's his funeral, not mine."

Manic gulped and looked at Sonic.

"You know what she meant." Sonic said, waving his hand dismissively. "What does the scroll say?"

Sonia put the scroll back into the tube. "It says that the echidnas were last heading toward the Mobian desert."

"Any chance they'll get lost there?" Manic asked.

"Sounds like they're going to round up the nomads in the Mobian desert; take out Tashistan and what's left of Hamarapi." Sonic replied.

"We're supposed to get upgrades at the marketplace in Tashistan." Sonia said.

Sonic picked up Sonia and Manic before racing off to the desert.
