Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Hedgehog Family Christmas ❯ The day before Christmas Eve ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Sonia, Sonic, and Manic were hanging out in their basement/recording studio.

Sonia frowned as she read the text message. “They have to fumigate Mother’s house.”

“So tell her they can stay here for a few days.” Sonic said, setting his guitar down. “It’s Christmas. We can just have dinner here instead of her place.”

 Sonia texted Aleena back.

“Yeah, it’s just for a few days and we have plenty of room.” Manic said, drumming his fingers on the desk.

“So does anyone want to walk around downtown and see the lights later?” Sonic asked. “Sal’s been dying to go.”

“Ooh, me too.” Manic replied. “Gives me an excuse to wear my new coat.”

 “I’d love to.”  Sonia said.

 *

Sonic and Sally stood at the door, waiting for his siblings, Surge, and Shadow.

“I hope Shadow’s not antisocial for Sonia’s sake.” Sonic said.

Manic and Surge, wearing their new trench coats, walked over.

“I said we’re looking at the Christmas lights downtown, not stepping into the Matrix.” Sonic said.

Manic rolled his eyes. “Very funny.”

Shadow, wearing fur trimmed boots and a jacket, walked over with Sonia.

Sonia hugged Shadow. “Doesn’t he look cute in his new jacket and boots?”

 Manic and Sonic snickered.

“If you’re gonna keep calling me cute, I’m changing clothes.” Shadow said.

“Fine, you look awesome.” Sonia replied.

Sonic opened the door. “Alright, let’s go.”

*

Sonic led the way through the town.

The town Christmas tree was lit up. Soft white lights decorated the trees and businesses. A Mobian weasel played Christmas music on a saxophone.

Manic glanced at the weasel. “Dude, why can’t they ask us to play here?”

“Because we don’t play slow songs.” Sonia said. “At least we play at the block parties.”

 “Yeah, that’s true.”  Manic muttered.

Shadow sipped his hot chocolate. “They don’t have a lot of shops.”

“The pizza place is pretty good.” Manic said, motioning to the shop.

“I was kind of glad they didn’t have shops.” Shadow said.

Sonia looked at Shadow. “Can we please eat with the group?” She asked. “Then we can go home.”

Sonic rolled his eyes. “Stop being a baby.”

“He’s introverted and needs to recharge.” Sonia said. “He’s socializing, isn’t he?”

“It takes more energy to deal with you than anyone.” Shadow replied.

 “Exactly.” Sonia said.

“Can we eat please?” Manic asked. “I’m starving.”

“Alright, let’s get a picture by the tree first.” Sally said, pulling her phone out. “Then we can eat.”

 Everyone gathered by the tree.

Sally took their picture, then checked it to make sure it was a good picture. “Alright, let’s go.”

Manic and Surge led the way to the pizza shop.

 *

Sonia checked her texts while they waited for the pizza. “Okay, Mother said they’ll move in tomorrow. They’ll be here until the day after Christmas.”

Surge spit her drink out. “What?”

“Ma, Kit, and Maria have to fumigate their house.” Manic said. “I thought I told you that.”

 “Oh, cripes.” Surge muttered.

“Got something against our mom, Surge?” Sonic asked.

“Probably the same little issue I have with her.” Sally replied.

Manic nodded. “Yeah….” He said. “Ma’s probably still ticked at me. Last month, I sent her a picture of our stuffed Velociraptor and jokingly said it was her new grandchild. The text part came in before the picture for some reason.”

“She had sent a bunch of rapid fire texts congratulating and asking me about our baby before she saw the picture.” Surge added.

Manic sighed. “I didn’t think a stupid internet joke would open up a giant can of worms.”

 Sonic laughed.

Sonia furrowed her brow. “She doesn’t aggravate me about that.”

“That’s because I told her not to.” Shadow said.

Sonia looked at Shadow, wide eyed. “What did you say?”

“I wasn’t rude.” Shadow said. “I only said not to aggravate us about it.”

Sonic sipped his root beer. “But you sound like John Wick, so….”

 Sonia sighed.

Manic leaned closer to Shadow. “Can you tell her not to aggravate us?”

 “Us too, please?” Sally asked.

 Shadow nodded.

“Just try not to cause a scene, you all.” Sonia said. “I really want this to be perfect since Thanksgiving was a little wonky.”

“It’s gonna be great, sis.” Manic replied. “Don’t worry.”
