Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ How Did I Not Notice This?! ❯ A short story ( Chapter 1 )
Sonic got up bright and early that morning for his morning run, only to find it was raining. He groaned. “At least Tails made me that giant wheel.” He muttered. He shuffled into the kitchen to make himself a cup of coffee.
He opened his fridge and pulled his carton of cold vanilla coffee out of the fridge. He poured himself a cup of coffee into his favorite mug and shuffled into the living room.
He flinched and dropped his coffee onto his floor. “Manic?”
Manic, who was in his pajamas and sitting on the couch, looked up. “Hey, bro.” He said. He sipped his coffee.
“What are you doing here?” Sonic asked.
Manic furrowed his brow. “I live here.”
“You do not.” Sonic said, picking up his coffee.
“Yes, I do.” Manic replied. He sipped his coffee cup.
“Stop playing around, bro.” Sonic said, walking to the kitchen. “This ain’t funny.”
“I’m not playing around.” Manic replied. He got up and walked into the kitchen. “I moved in here last year.”
Sonic got his coffee carton out of the fridge. “I’m not an idiot, Manic.” He said, pouring himself another cup of coffee. “There’s no way you lived here for a year and I hadn’t noticed you.”
Manic shrugged. “Ships in the night, bro.”
Sonic grabbed the dish towel and carried it to the spill. “Even so, I would’ve spotted you.” He said, mopping up the spill.
“I thought so too.” Manic replied. “But I’ve lived here; received mail here. I see you around, but you missed me.”
Sonic checked the mail organizer and saw a few envelopes addressed to Manic. He furrowed his brow. “How…?”
“I mean, you’re not home much.” Manic said, leaning against the counter.
“That halfway explains it.” Sonic said, leaning against the counter with a dumbfounded expression. “Did you just invite yourself or…?”
“Do you have a head injury?” Manic asked.
Sonic sipped his coffee. “Nah, Tails checks me out after every battle and I visit the hospital if I bump my head.”
“Anyway, about two years ago, you told me that I could live with you if anything happened and I needed a place to live.” Manic said. “Well, my apartment complex was destroyed last year after an Eggman battle and I moved in.”
“I remember that now, but how have I not heard you play the drums?” Sonic asked. “Or noticed your groceries or dishes?”
“Guess you weren’t home.” Manic replied. “You’re never home when I’m watching tv. I wash my dishes as soon as I’m done. We eat pretty much the same things and I never have leftover sushi. You’re super busy, bro. You need a vacation.”
Sonic sighed. “Yeah, I definitely do if I haven’t noticed you living here.” He muttered. He sipped his coffee. “So you’re staying in the spare room?”
Manic nodded. “Yeah, of course.”
“Do you have a secret family in there too?” Sonic asked.
Manic laughed. “Nah, but I did get engaged last night.”
“To who?” Sonic asked.
“Surge.” Manic replied. “Started dating her a year ago. I told you about her.”
Sonic groaned. “Did I get sucked into a parallel dimension?”
Manic shrugged. He checked his watch. “Ah, well, I gotta babysit for sis for a few hours.” He said. “Please tell me you remember we have a niece.”
“How could I not?” Sonic asked. “Mom sent out her Christmas cards eight months early to announce it.”
Manic laughed. “Yeah, that was crazy.” He replied. “Anyway, see ya later. We can watch a movie or something later.”

Tails stared dumbfounded at Sonic.
“You knew he was there?” Sonic asked.
“Yeah, we all did.” Tails replied. “Shadow and Knuckles helped him move in while you were in Green Hills.”
Sonic sighed.
“How have you lived with your brother for a year and not known he was there?” Tails asked.
“I have no idea.” Sonic said exasperatedly.
“Well, you don’t have a concussion.” Tails said, leaning against his table. “You just need a vacation.”
Sonic got up. “Yeah, I guess so.” He replied. “Egghead’s at a villain’s retreat, now’s a good time to go on vacation. Anyway, I’ll be at the beach from tomorrow to Sunday.”
“Have fun, Sonic.” Tails said. “I’ll be at the museum of airplanes.”
Sonic got up and raced to his shack.
