Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Sonic Matrix 4 ❯ Familiar faces ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Shadow took a seat in the corner of a little coffee shop in Mobotropolis.

The waitress, a female hedgehog who looked awfully familiar to him, set his coffee down and smiled. “Here’s your coffee, handsome.”

Shadow smirked. “So when do you get off work?”

She sat down across from Shadow. “I just got off work,” She said. “I’m Sonia.”

 Shadow introduced himself.

Sonia giggled. “Shadow? It certainly suits you.”

“Have we met before?” Shadow asked. “You seem so familiar.”

“You’re in here a lot.” Sonia replied.

Shadow shook his head. “I was thinking we had worked together somewhere before.” He said. “On some airship, maybe for GUN.”

Sonia shrugged. “Maybe you dreamed that.”

 “Maybe.” Shadow agreed.

Shadow woke up and slowly sat up. He noticed that the picture of him and his family was no longer on the nightstand.

“When did I get a nightstand?” He muttered. He looked at the bed’s headboard. “Where’s the shelves?”

 Shadow looked around the room.

The room had no pictures on the wall and the walls and curtains were all gray instead of the gray walls, black curtains, and a few paintings Sonia had done that he had kept up.

Strangely enough, it looked vaguely similar to the apartment he lived in while stuck in Eggman’s matrix except for a few details.

“Strange.” Shadow muttered. “I better check on the girls.”

Shadow got out of bed and headed into the kitchen to make himself a cup of coffee before he woke the girls up.

He froze as soon as he set foot in the kitchen.

Sonia, wearing Shadow’s old Tapout t-shirt and leggings, was already making coffee. “Good morning, sweetie.” She said, looking over her shoulder and smiling.

Shadow hugged Sonia. “I’m glad that was just a nightmare.”

 “What?” Sonia asked.

“Nothing.” Shadow replied. He kissed Sonia. “Do you want me to make breakfast or wake up the girls?”

 Sonia looked at Shadow. “Girls?”

“Oh, are they at Sonic’s?” Shadow asked.

Sonia shook her head. “No, who are the girls and who is Sonic?”

“Our daughters, Maria and Aleena.” Shadow replied. “Sonic is your obnoxious older brother.”

Sonia giggled. “That must have been quite a dream.”

“Is this April fools?” Shadow asked. “Your brother’s dumb idea of a joke?”

Sonia set the coffee pot down. “Are you okay?”

Shadow raised an eyebrow. “You forget our daughters and your brother and you’re asking me if I’m okay?”

“We don’t have kids.” Sonia said, leaning against the counter. “We didn’t want any, remember?”

“No, because I remember that conversation going a whole lot differently.” Shadow replied. “So… how’s Aleena and Manic?”

“Manic’s in prison for armed robbery and grand theft auto.” Sonia muttered. She crossed her arms. “Who’s Aleena?”

“Your mom.” Shadow said, crossing his arms. “We named our youngest daughter after her. Did you forget her too?”

Sonia looked away, rubbing her arms. “I never knew my Mother, Shadow. Manic and I are orphans.”

“Something’s not right.” Shadow thought. “Better not tip her off.

Shadow hugged Sonia. “I’m sorry, let’s drop this.” He said. “Clearly I was dreaming.”

Sonia smiled. “Fine with me.” She replied. “What would you like for breakfast?”

“Surprise me.” Shadow said. “I may be late. I have to see someone.”

 “You’re leaving?” Sonia asked.

Shadow kissed Sonia. “I won’t be gone long, I promise.”

 “I love you.” Sonia whispered.

“Love you too.” Shadow replied. He stared at her one last time before walking away.

As he walked to the door, he looked for any sign of the girls.

“Only one bedroom?” Shadow thought. “I didn’t even have a one bedroom place before I got married.”

Shadow climbed the steps of the prison.

Manic was standing on the top of the steps. “Shadow.” He said, leaning against the wall. “Before you ask how I knew you were coming here, I had been searching for you for the past three weeks. I just found you about twenty minutes ago.”

 “Excuse me?” Shadow asked.

“You're back in the Matrix.” Manic replied.

“But we destroyed it.” Shadow said.

Manic nodded. “Yeah, well, someone rebooted it.” He replied. “But you’re the only prisoner for some reason. Maria and Aleena said some metal Shadows came to your house.”

 “So they’re safe?” Shadow asked.

“Yeah, so anyway, Sonic sent me to find you after he rescued the girls.” Manic said. He handed Shadow the red pill. “Take this to see your girls. The Sonia in that apartment? She’s a simulation. Don’t worry about her.”

Shadow sighed. “I thought so.” He muttered. He took the red pill.
