Sonic ran after Shadow again with Tails and Knuckles right behind him while Sonia and Manic struggled to keep up.

 Sonic skidded to a stop as Shadow marched into GUN’s Japanese embassy. “Oh, no.”

 Tails and Knuckles stopped as Manic parked the motorcycle.

 “He just escaped from a GUN facility.” Sonia said. “Why is he going back in?”

 A crowd of people rushed out of the building.

 “Payback.” Manic said.

 Sonic sighed. “Alright, let’s deal with it.” He said, leading his team inside.

 Tails checked his tracker. “He’s this way.” He said, motioning down a hallway to their left. He led the way.

 Sonic walked alongside Tails as the others followed.

 Sonic led everyone through the facility.

 “There’s no bodies.” Manic said, looking around. 

 “Then what is he wanting?” Sonia asked.

 Tails typed on his phone. “No….”

 “That doesn’t sound good.” Sonic said.

 “I pulled up Gerald Robotnik’s files.” Tails replied. “He was building this military grade kill satellite. It’s called the eclipse cannon. Shadow could power it up with his own chaos energy or the emeralds. If he gets to it and powers it up, he can wipe out the planet.”

 “That’s overkill.” Sonia said. “How does that equal justice for Maria? At least that’s what I assume he’s doing.”

 “It is.” Sonic replied. 

 “He’s pretty myopic as far as his plans go.” Tails said, tapping on his phone. “Where does he think he’s gonna go if he destroys earth?”

 “Mobius?” Sonia asked. 

 “Does he even know he’s from Mobius?” Sonic asked.

 Shadow appeared in front of them.

 “Okay, can we talk now?” Sonia asked. “Can you take a break from your mission?”

 Shadow narrowed his eyes. “I’m tired of giving you warnings.”

 Sonic groaned. “Dude, you’re not the only one who’s ever lost anyone.”

 “The more you run that stupid mouth of yours, the more I want to beat you to a pulp.” Shadow said, his eyes lighting up. “I said I wouldn’t go easy on you next time.”

 Sonia stepped forward. “Shadow, please. Can’t we discuss this?”

 Shadow seemed to consider this offer for a moment. “What’s to discuss?” He asked. “Maria’s gone and she deserves justice.”

 “Were you in love with her?” Manic asked.

 Shadow gritted his teeth. “She was my sister.” He said. He disappeared, then reappeared by Sonia, then dragged her back to the spot he was originally standing in. He nudged Sonia forward. “How would you feel if you had to watch her die?”

 “You won’t live long enough to find out.” Sonic said, narrowing his eyes.

 “Sonic?” Sonia and Manic asked.

 Shadow let Sonia go, then disappeared.

 “I don’t think he left because he’s scared of you.” Tails said.

 “Well, there goes my last shred of hope this will be easy.” Sonic replied.

 “Where’s he headed?” Sonia asked.

 Tails checked his detector. “Straight ahead.” He replied. “There’s a security vault where the keys to the eclipse cannon are.”

 Sonic led the way down the hall.

 The team made it to a hallway with laser tripwires blocking the path.

 “Well, he’s dead.” Manic said. “No way he’s crossed those and lived.”

 “The detector’s showing he made it past the lasers.” Tails replied. He checked the security monitors. “Oh, he’s in the room and-”

 The lasers shut off. 

 “He shut off the devices.” Tails said. “Wait for him to come back across. He could turn them back on if he thinks we crossed it.”

 “Why did he turn them off?” Knuckles asked.

 Shadow ran down the corridor and skidded to a halt in front of them.

 “That would be why.” Tails said.

 Shadow started taking off his inhibitor rings.

 Tails’ eyes widened. “Run.”

 Sonic picked up Sonia and Manic, then ran out.

 Tails and Knuckles followed Sonic.

 “So where is this eclipse cannon?” Sonia asked.

 “Space.” Tails replied. “He can use a GUN teleporter to get there. It’s based on the same tech as the rings.”

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles stopped running.

 Tails pulled out a ring and tossed it into the air.

 Tails, Knuckles, and Sonic stepped through the portal.
