Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Sonic Underground 90s AU ❯ Sick day ( Chapter 13 )
Aleena laid in bed, reading a book.
It was a rare Saturday morning where Brenden was working and the kids were sleeping in.
Aleena flinched as she heard coughing and gagging coming from outside her room. She sighed. “Please tell me they aren’t sick.” She said under her breath as she climbed out of bed. She shuffled to her door and opened it.
Sonia, sniffling, staggered out of her room. “Mother?”
Aleena knelt down. “Oh, Princess, was that you coughing?”
Sonia sneezed into her elbow. “No.” She said, sniffling.
“Can you make it to the couch on your own?” Aleena asked.
Sonia nodded. She shuffled to the living room with wobbly steps.
Aleena straightened up and headed to the boys’ room.
Sonic was fast asleep, but sounded congested.
Manic was laying on his side in his bed with a dazed look.
Aleena knelt beside Manic’s bed. “Manic, sweetie, were you coughing?”
“No.” Manic muttered. “Feel like I’m gonna puke.”
Sonic woke up, coughing.
“Sonic, can you go to the living room?” Aleena asked.
Sonic got up and walked out of the room.
“Sit up, Manic.” Aleena said.
“No, too nauseous.” Manic muttered.
Aleena hurried out of the room to get an old mop bucket out of the kitchen, then ran back into Manic and Sonic’s room just as Manic was halfway sitting up and dry heaving.
Aleena sat beside Manic and helped him sit up. She gave Manic the bucket. “Put your head in the bucket, okay?”
Manic leaned over the bucket, though his head tilted back just as he was starting to vomit.
Aleena gently held Manic’s head down. She gently pushed back every time he kept trying to tilt back. “Manic, hold your head down.” She said sternly. “You’ll choke if you keep doing that.”
“I am holding my head down.” Manic insisted.
“No, you weren’t.” Aleena said.
“I thought I was.” Manic replied.
Aleena furrowed her brow. “I’ll have to ask someone about that.” She said, getting up. She took the bucket from Manic and carried him in one arm and holding the bucket in the other hand as she made her way to the living room.
Sonic and Sonia were already in the living room watching tv.
Manic sighed. “I don’t want to watch Snoopy right now.”
“Rescue Rangers are on.” Sonic said, wiping his nose with a tissue. “Snoopy moved to Nickelodeon, remember?”
Manic grimaced.
“Manic, please don’t complain.” Aleena said, setting Manic on the couch. “No one wants to watch Street Sharks except you and we don’t complain.”
“I hate that show too.” Manic replied.
Aleena set the bucket down. “Then why were you watching it?”
“I dunno.” Manic replied. “I thought it would be cool and I only watched it because Uncle Chuck got me one of the action figures for Christmas.”
“Fair enough.” Aleena said. “I’ll make you some chicken soup and Gatorade.”
“Can I have soda instead?” Manic asked. “Surge drinks it when she’s sick.”
“We don’t have any.” Aleena replied. “It’s not good for you.”
“But Surge’s Ma and Dad let her.” Manic protested.
“I’m not her parents.” Aleena said. “They let her drink way too much and it’s not good for her at all.”
Manic pouted.
“Watch your cartoons, I’ll be right back.” Aleena said, ruffling Manic’s spines. She got up and headed to the kitchen.

Aleena came back into the room with a tray with three small bowls of chicken soup and a plate of saltines. She set the tray on the coffee table. “Let’s try to sit up and eat, Manic.”
Manic set his cup down and slowly eased himself to sit up with Aleena and Sonic’s help. He sniffed the soup and gagged. “I can’t eat the soup.”
Aleena handed Manic the crackers. “Try this.”
Manic slowly nibbled on the crackers.
Aleena handed the other soup bowls to Sonia and Sonic.
“Okay, is everyone happy?” Aleena asked.
“Yes.” The triplets replied.
“Do you need anything before I sit down?” Aleena asked.
“No.” The triplets replied.
Aleena sat down beside Sonia.
Manic sat his plate of crackers on the table. “Ma, I have to go to the bathroom.”
“Why didn’t you say that earlier?” Aleena asked.
“‘Cause I didn’t have to go then.” Manic whined.
Aleena sighed as she got up. “Come on, sweetie.” She said, helping Manic off the couch. She walked him to the bathroom.
Manic weakly staggered with every step.
“What do you have to do?” Aleena asked.
“Pee.” Manic replied.
“Then please sit down when you do.” Aleena replied.
“I don’t have to.” Manic said.
“Do you need my help?” Aleena asked.
“No, you’ll look.” Manic protested.
“I will not.” Aleena said. “I’ll just hold your shoulders. I’ll keep my eyes closed.”
“I’m not a baby.” Manic protested.
Aleena sighed. “Fine, but try not to pee on anything.” She said, opening the bathroom door for him.
Manic shuffled inside as Aleena closed the door.
“Wash your hands please.” Aleena said.
“‘Kay.” Manic replied.
Aleena leaned against the wall, humming softly as she waited on Manic.
She finally heard Manic run the faucet and opened the door.
Manic shuffled over to her, then reached up.
Aleena picked Manic up and carried him to the living room. She laid him back on the couch and sat down.
“Mom, I want a popsicle.” Sonic said.
Aleena fought the urge to groan. “Couldn’t you have told me while I was up?”
“I’m sorry.” Sonic said.
“Please let me know when you want something while I’m up, okay?” Aleena asked.
“Okay.” The triplets replied.
Aleena got up. “Does anyone else want a popsicle?”
“Yes.” Sonia and Manic replied.
“Okay.” Aleena said. She walked out of the room and glanced at the bathroom. “I better check to make sure he didn’t make a mess.” She thought as she walked into the bathroom.
Sure enough, Manic had gotten the toilet seat wet.
Aleena cleaned it up, then washed her hands.
“Mother?” Sonia called. “It’s hot and my legs hurt.”
“I’ll check your temperatures in a minute.” Aleena called. She got the thermometer out of the medicine cabinet, then left the room and got popsicles for the kids.
Aleena headed back to the living room and handed each kid a popsicle.
Sonic got a cherry popsicle, Manic got a grape popsicle, and Sonia got orange.
Aleena felt Sonia’s forehead. “It feels normal.” She said, setting the thermometer down. “Wait, do I usually tell if you have a fever by feeling your stomach or is that one of the boys?”
“That’s me.” Sonia replied.
Aleena carefully slid Sonia’s shirt up a little higher and felt her stomach. “It’s warm.” She said, getting the thermometer ready. She stuck it in Sonia’s ear and waited for it to beep.
The thermometer beeped.
“Ooh, that’s a low grade fever.” Aleena said. “I’ll get you some medicine, then check the boys’ temperature.”
“Thanks, Mother.” Sonia replied.
*
After a couple of hours, the triplets finally settled down for a nap.
Aleena breathed a sigh of relief and picked up the remote. She flipped the channels until she found something she preferred to watch.
She sipped her tea as she watched Buried Alive on some random channel.
*
Aleena bit her lip as she heard the door unlock. She turned around as the door opened.
Brenden stepped through the door.
Aleena shushed him.
“What?” Brenden whispered.
“The kids are asleep.” Aleena whispered back. “They’re sick.”
Brenden frowned. “Aww.” He whispered. “I’ll make us dinner, you rest.”
“Thanks.” Aleena whispered back.
Brenden left the room.
Aleena settled back into her seat to finish watching Buried Alive two.
Manic yawned. “Ma?”
Aleena sighed. “What?”
“Why did they bury that lady alive?” Manic asked.
Aleena’s eyes widened. “How long have you been awake?”
“I woke up a little bit ago.” Manic replied.
Aleena sighed.
“Don’t turn it.” Manic begged. “I wanna watch.”
Aleena thought about it, then sighed. “Fine. I guess if your dad lets you watch Black Sheep and Dumb and Dumber on regular tv, you can watch this.”
*
Aleena and Brenden laid sleeping bags on the living room floor so they wouldn’t have to make the kids move or run to their rooms when they needed something.
Aleena sneezed.
“You can go to our room if you want.” Brenden said. “I can take care of the kids. You need to rest too. It sounds like they kept you on your feet for most of the day.”
Aleena hugged Brenden. “Thanks a lot.”
“You’re welcome.” Brenden said. He helped Aleena to their room before heading back to the living room to sleep.
