Chapter 7

Sonic: "This is unreal!" Sonic was busy testing his new physical limits, thanks to the power of the Master Emerald stored in him. 20 feet of solid metal couldn't stop him. He totaled another factory of Eggman's in less than 4 seconds, beating his old record 5 times over. Sonic: "I don't think we'll be having any more problems around Mobius now." The trial run took him all over the world, passing up the old Green Hills, the Radical City, and the Casino Zone. Here he took a break. Sonic: "WHEW! That's a workout. I feel like Mina with all this new speed!" He smelled something. He looked down at his shoes, which were now dark, DARK red. Sonic: "Uh-oh... I'm gonna need some new kicks now. Better go slow-mo right now." Sonic took a seat on a bench and looked around the place. Didn't look bad after all the bad business got kicked out. Tons of lights, sounds, a high-speed shadow hopping rooftops, traff... wait. Sonic: "What the..." Sure enough, something was busy running. Fast. Sonic: "Is that Mina?" Then Sonic saw some robots chasing the shadow. Sonic: "Uh-oh... whoever this person is, they're in trouble!" The figure and the robots ran into a nearby forest. Then Sonic heard the buzz of much more machinery, followed by some launching rockets and bullets flying. Sonic: "No way... I gotta save that person, whoever they are!"

Sonic burned off into the forest looking for the source of the fighting. Then he saw a quick flash to his right, followed by a huge explosion of power and light. Sonic: "WHOA!" Sonic had to shield his eyes from the blast, but once it was over, he high-tailed it to the new clearing in the forest. Sonic: "What in the world... that blast made a huge crater in the ground, and...!" Sonic looked down at the center of the crater where a girl was lying down, appearing to be knocked out. Not caring about the hordes of broken machinery that was scattered in the trees around the crater, he ran down to take a closer look at the girl. It was a violet kitsune wearing what Sonic could only make out as a long, very light orange shirt, and nine tails were coming out from her. Sonic: "This chick... did she cause that explosion? Well, no time to worry about that now; Gotta get her some help first and ask questions later! ...I know, Tails ought to be able to do something. Don't feel good bringing a stranger into the village." He picked up the kitsune and burned off for Tails' base.

Tails went ga-ga when he laid eyes on the fox girl. Tails: "Sonic, who's THAT!?" Sonic: "It's a chick that was being chased by Eggman's robots. I don't know exactly what happened, but somehow I think she got caught in an explosion." Tails: "What!? OK, follow me." Soon, Tails had the girl place in a container full of liquid. Sonic: "What's all this?" Tails: "This, for all purposes considered, is a regeneration chamber. It can bring a person back to full health lightning fast." Sonic: "Seriously!? Way past cool Tails! We should give Knothole one of these!" Tails: "Not too sure about that. People might hog the thing everytime some little thing goes wrong, plus it takes a lot of power to run it for some reason." Sonic: "...yeah, I hear ya'." The fox girl started to cough. Tails: "Good! She's awake. Time to get here out of there." Tails pushed a button and the liquid in the chamber started to drain out of it somewhere. When it was gone, Tails opened the chamber's door. Tails: "She should be fine now, so let's get her to a bed now." Sonic: "Got it." Sonic began to carry the girl and followed Tails to a normal bedroom. (Yes, it really doesn't have any tricks hidden somewhere.) Sonic put the chick on the bed. Tails: "I think the worse is over. I'm going back to the master control room. Once she's better, we can go over the next part of the plan." Sonic: "The plan?" Tails: "You know, Sally and Bunnie!" Sonic: "Riiight... almost forgot." Tails: "I can see why. Maybe you should keep an eye on her just in case something else happens." Sonic: "Way past ya' on that Tails." Tails: "Yeah. Alright; later Sonic." Tails left the bedroom.

Sonic was busy fiddling with yo-yos when he heard some rustling of the covers. Sonic: "Huh?" The kitsune on the bed was beginning to stir and awaken. ???: "...oooh... ! Now where am I?" Sonic: "At a safe spot." The girl turned her head to see who had spoke. ???: "...you saved me, didn't you?" Sonic: "UH, well... just doing my job. But you sure don't miss a beat to figure out so fast... uh..." Before Sonic knew it, he felt a pair of lips press themselves against his. Sonic: "!!" ???: "(giggles) Thank you so much. Is there... anything I can do to repay you?" Sonic could have sworn that her tone of voice was just a bit too suggestive to go unnoticed. Sonic: "Well..." ???: "Please, let me do something for you master." Wait a sec. Sonic: (...huh? Did she just say...) ???: "My entire being is at your service..." Sonic: (I think she means it! And I think she means THAT. Well then...) "OK, first, tell me your name." ???: "Velvet." Sonic could tell how she got that name. Her fur was ultra soft and smooth, just like the real thing. And the girl in the fur was currently embracing him, letting him feel her silky bristles of hair all over, as well as her generous cleavage. Velvet: "I've been looking so long for someone like you... someone strong, brave and adventurous... someone whom a girl like me would love to call master, Sonic." Sonic was thrown off in the head. As Velvet was saying those words, he didn't exactly feel... right. Like something was going on inside his head. Or... someone. Sonic: "Wait a sec!" Sonic grabbed the sides of her midsection and held her back a bit. Sonic: "Did you just... poke around inside my head!?" Velvet: "Oooooh... you're so fast... I did. I have many... talents. I just wanted to know a little more about the guy who saved my life. I didn't mean any harm..." Sonic thought about that for a bit. Talents, she said. Sonic then remembered hearing about kitsunes with large numbers of tails, especially those with nine of 'em. It was a fair guess that she DID have plenty of talents scattered about inside of her. And she wanted to use them for her hero. Sonic: "Wellll... if you insist... I'm not saying no." Velvet's eyes filled with stars. Velvet: "I promise... you won't regret this. Ever."

Velvet was about to give Sonic a big smooch when Tails walked in the door. Tails: "Hey Son... uh... am I interrupting something?" Velvet closed her eyes, smirked and let Sonic go. Sonic: "UH... n-no, nothing here Tails. What's up?" Tails: "...well, I was thinking about the plan, and I found out that there might be a few complications with this next part..." Sonic: "What do you mean by that Tails?" Tails: "Well, see, we need to be able to fake soldiers dying." Sonic: "What!? Tails, what are you saying?" Tails: "See, if we can get some fake real-looking Freedom Fighter troops, this will be a blast!" Velvet: "I might be able to help with that..." Sonic and Tails turned toward the girl in wonderment. Tails: "How?" Velvet proceeded to show them what she meant. When she was finished, Sonic knew first hand that what he heard about nine-tailed kitsunes was true. He thought he heard something else, but... Tails: "Perfect! OK then, here's what we're gonna do..."

Sally and some other members of the Freedom Fighters were tending to some business at Freedom Fighters HQ in Knothole when a subordinate member of the troops bust in the room waving a letter. Troop: "Princess Sally! We've just received a distress letter from near a village!" Sally: "What!? What's the letter point of origin, and from whom did it come from?" Troop: "It doesn't say; the letter states that a victim is being held captive in a heavily armed stronghold just northeast of Jade Valley." This didn't sound good. Jade Valley's village is known to be a haven for shady characters, and plenty of them. Enough to make sure not many good guys got close to the place. Mina: "No way! That thing's gotta be fake or something!" Tails: "Yeah! That place is bad news all the way!" Troop: "Princess, the letter also states that a highly valued object was taken into the stronghold as well, worth two million!" Bunnie: "Two million!? What could that be, some secret treasure or something?" Troop: "The letter states that the object is a set of plans for a new defense system being developed that has the potential to become a massive weapon of destruction ma'am." Now it was serious. Sally: "I've heard enough. We have to mobilize the troops. I want the squad leaders in the meeting chambers in fifteen minutes. Tails, get Intelligence to search the area specified in the letter for the stronghold." Tails: "Roger!" Everyone began to carry out their instructions.

Intelligence had reported that the place was a couple of miles away from Jade Village. That was good; Sally definitely didn't want to have to worry about the possibility of civilian casualties. The stronghold in examination was large and fortified with robots everywhere. There seemed to be only two places to attack it; one spot was a side door, and another looked to be the least guarded area around the base. In the absence of Sonic due to an earlier distress call from a far off place, two squads would obviously be necessary. Strategies were devised and decisions were made. Sally would lead one squad to the least guarded area, while Antoine and Bunnie would lead a larger squad to the side door. The idea was to create a diversion at the side door while Sally's team snuck in the back way. Rotor would be on hand to assist with the technical details in Sally's squad. Mobilization of the troops was to occur in no more than six hours from the end of the meeting. Then the meeting was adjourned.

Tails and Mina left the HQ and the village. Soon, they could see Sonic and Velvet waiting in a forest clearing south of Knothole. Sonic: "Well? How'd it go?" Tails: "So far so good. They just seemed to pass us off like we didn't know what we were talking about." Mina: "Especially after they heard that part about the massive destruction capability of the plans." Velvet: "So I guess we're going to phase two, right?" Tails: "Yeah." Tails then proceeded to iron out the details of their instructions.

Six hours passed, and Antoine's and Bunnie's squads went mobile, followed by Sally's a few minutes afterward. Something, however, was setting Antoine on a nerve. He could have sworn he felt a lot of wind from behind himself as he led his troops onward. Sonic: (No sweat here... Ant's pretty dull on watching his surroundings... alright, now for Sally's group!) Sonic took off. Meanwhile, Mina was having a little bit of trouble. First, the replacement "dolls" Tails made wern't light, so her speed was reduced. Second, Bunnie had a very keen sense of hearing. Mina: (Aw man... I wish Sonic were here to help me with this...) A few minutes later, she finished her job, having carted off the equally heavy troops under Sally's command away without Bunnie's knowing. High overhead, Velvet had a strange hot pink aura around herself as she animated the movements of the "dolls." Tails was with her. Tails: "Man, that was close..." (Mina!) Mina: (Eeek! I'm sorry it too so long Tails... it's just that those guys were heavy!) Tails: (Well, you got it done. That's all that matters. I'll give you a reward later.) Mina: (Really! Alright Tails!) Sonic: (Hey! That's my line!) Sonic jumped through the trees to meet up with Tails and Velvet. Sonic: "It's done. I got all of Ant's and Sally's troops far away, and those dolls are in place." Tails: "Good. Ok Velvet, it's all on you. That base is already programmed, primed and ready." Velvet: "Right. Now... watch me work magic!"

Antoine's and Bunnie's squads got into their positions. They were ready to attack the stronghold's west door from two points in some nearby forest bushes. Bunnie radioed Antoine. Bunnie: "Bunnie to Antonie. We're ready when you are hun'." Antoine: "Launch 'ze grenades!" Troops began pulling pins out of the gadgets and throwing them like crazy. Some 200 yards away, Sally's troop could hear the explosions going off, signaling for them to move in on the back gate.

Moments later, the weakened guard at said back gate was silently rendered harmless thanks to some snipers in the troop. Four of Sally's ten troop members guarded the gate to secure the exit, while she, Rotor and the other five members went in further. They eventually ran into a locked door. Rotor and the other members encircled Sally so she could get Nicole on the case. Once she was hooked in, Nicole got cracking. After two minutes, she cracked the code and alarms sounded everywhere. Rotor: "Huh? Sally, what happened?" Sally: "I don't know... Nicole reported a success in opening the lock, then this happened!" Then it got worse. Bullets came flying at them from small enclosures in the walls opposite the locked door. The troop members scrambled for cover they couldn't find. And the door hadn't budged an inch. Rotor: "We're done for if we stay here much longer!" Sally: "Right! Everyone fall back now!"

It was to be a bad day for the Freedom Fighters. Sally, Rotor and three troop members out of the nine had made it out. The others... well... the troop made themselves scarce from the base before Rotor spotted someone. Rotor: "Wait... what the... Bunnie!? Antoine!? What happened to the..." Antoine: "It iz not a good day, my friends." Bunnie was holding her shoulder. Sally could see a few tears. Bunnie: "I can't believe we lost all our guys... everyone else was... was...NGH!" Her flesh shoulder was bleeding, a bullet at rest within the upper arm. Rotor hung his head low, as did the surviving members of the troop. Sally was in pure shock. Then she caught a glimmer from something in the distance near the base. Her eyes were beginning to well as Bunnie's report began to sink in, but the sound of one more member shot in the head was enough. Rotor: "No... they got snipers too! We have to move now!" Sally was speechless, but only nodded her head. When one of the other two infantry tried to pick up the dead guy, Sally immediately grabbed the guy's arm. Sally: "No! We have to get out of here now! We could be shot at any second. Leave him!" The underling obeyed, although some worry left itself within his mind. To just leave the guy for dead... that wasn't really like the princess back in the day... The Freedom Fighters sorely headed back for Knothole.

Tails and company saw the group leave the area from their seats above on some branches. Tails: "Perfect. A few more 'missions' like this and Knothole'll riot Sally right out of the village! Then she's all yours Sonic." Sonic: "I guess so, little buddy... but... did 'ya have to be so gruesome with it?" Tails: "It's all for effect. Those two guys will make sure to let someone know about what all happened here, beyond whatever story Sally's gonna cook up." Velvet: "That was so fun... we should do this again sometime. But... right now... maybe we should reward ourselves?" Velvet had snaked herself against Sonic's left side and was draping one sexy leg over one of his quite suggestively. Sonic: "That's starting to sound like a good idea." Tails had already started flying with Mina hanging on to him... with her arms and legs crossed behind his back. Tails: "I'm way ahead of you."

Somewhere close by, other figures looked on to see the whole thing from the shadows. Someone with a crazed nerdy voice: "...and you mean to tell me that all this was that kid's fault?" Someone with a stupid-sounding deep voice: "Uh-huh! That's guy's smart." A snobbish voice: "Hah. I bet it's just a bunch of scrap thrown together." Deep voice: "That's not how it looked to me..." Snob Voice: "Hah! I'll prove it! I'll take the power source and trash the place all by myself, courtesy of Wave the Swallow!"

Heh heh heh... she has NO idea what she's getting into... sucks for her. At least, that's what Velvet thinks after her souped-up hearing picks up that conversation as well.

Apology: Sorry. Not only is this chapter rather boring, but life got clean in the way and delayed the hell out of it. I’ll see about making up for that later…
