Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ The Chaos Controller ❯ Retaliation ( Chapter 4 )
Starline and Farrell met in Dr. Ivo Robotnik, aka Dr. Eggman, in the office of his fortress.
Robotnik sighed as he rubbed at the space between his eyes. “You’re lucky insurance covered your complex, Starline.”
“Of course, but what was that about?” Starline asked.
A robot butler brought everyone some tea.
“I wondered about that too.” Robotnik said. He pulled up one of the security camera photos. “I did some digging on the male responsible.”
“That pesky blue rat you always squawk about?” Farrell asked.
“No, gentlemen, the hedgehog we’re dealing with now is Shadow.” Robotnik said. “Also known as the Chaos Controller.”
“Oh, he’s in GUN.” Starline replied. “So what? We can buy him off.”
“He’s from an elite group in GUN called team Dark.” Robotnik said. He sipped his tea. “My grandfather Gerald was a top scientist in GUN. He adopted Shadow when he was a hoglet and vouched for him when he signed up for GUN training. Shadow suffered a debilitating injury a year into his service and would’ve been permanently disabled if he hadn’t volunteered for my grandfather’s experiments.”
“Experiments?” Farrell asked.
“I won’t bore you with the technical details, but (while Shadow is naturally super fast like Sonic) he developed extraordinary abilities.” Robotnik replied. “In short, he can kill you without laying a hand on you if he chooses to do it that way.”
“How do we stop him?” Starline asked.
Robotnik stared blankly.
“I had assumed you had some weaponry to deal with him.” Starline said. “I suppose not.”
“Technically, he can be killed.” Robotnik replied. He sipped his tea. “It takes a lot of firepower to do so. Unfortunately, he’s quite intelligent. It would be a miracle to take him out. I don’t see us being so lucky.”
Farrell shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
“So you suggest we give up and wait to die?” Starline questioned.
“No, I’m saying you should try to appease him if you can.” Robotnik replied. “That’s what I will do, but you do whatever you want. Now, if you will excuse me, I’ll be getting my peace offering ready.”
Farrell and Starline left the office.
“Do what you want.” Farrell said. “I’m not crossing that guy.”
“You’re afraid of that rat?” Starline asked.
“How did he blow up that facility?” Farrell asked.
Starline rolled his eyes. “He probably had guns or bombs in his coat.”
“None of my guys saw weapons on him.” Farrell said. “Robotnik said Shadow had extraordinary powers and worked for GUN. That’s enough for me to know he’s not to be messed with.”
Starline scoffed. “Appease the punk if you wish, but I will eliminate him.”
“Good luck.” Farrell said.
*
Shadow showed up at Farrell’s place and kicked down the door.
Farrell stepped around the corner with his hands up. “I give up.” He said. “I don’t know what got you involved, but-”
“Justice for all of those you wronged.” Shadow replied. “But especially Aleena Gail Hedgehog. She’s been like a mother to me and my late wife and you wiped out that poor widow’s account.”
“Oh, her.” Farrell said. “I can get you the money. Whatever you want; just don’t kill me.”
Shadow considered it. “Alright, get me her money. Wire everyone else their money back and give me info on Starline.”
Farrell got on his computer immediately and did as he was told. “Robotnik will do whatever you want to avoid a problem. Starline is the main one you want.”
“Why is he calling the shots and not Robotnik?” Shadow asked.
“Because Robotnik let him run the scheme since he was more concerned about his battles with Sonic and his tech company.” Farrell said. “I was dismissive of his voice bot actually working, so I let him have it and sent some of my lower ranking members and one boy who was trying to pay his debts to get out. I know enough about you to say I don’t want trouble with you.”
Shadow nodded. “Wise decision.”
Farrell closed his computer screen. “It’s done.” He said. “At least on my end. Starline has the rest of the files, but I did take care of Aleena’s for you.”
Shadow nodded. “Thank you.” He replied. He walked out of the house.
Shadow’s phone rang as he walked to his motorcycle.
Shadow answered the phone.
“Shadow, we need you.” Sonia cried.
The sound of voices, alarms, and a crackling fire competed for attention in the background.
“What happened?” Shadow asked as he climbed on his motorcycle.
“A bot threw a Molotov cocktail through our window.” Sonia replied. “We’re all okay, just scared.”
“Where’s Sonic?” Shadow asked.
“He’s here.” Sonia replied. “He fought off the other bots with Tails, Surge, and Manic’s help.”
“Okay, get somewhere safe as soon as you can.” Shadow said. “I’ll take care of the ones responsible.”
“Thank you.” Sonia replied. She hung up.
Farrell stepped out of the house. “Did you need anything?”
“Did you send bots to Aleena’s house?” Shadow asked.
Farrell furrowed his brow. “Bots?” He asked. “I don’t have access to bots. I’m just a low level criminal who loaned out a few of my lackeys for a cut of the profits. Starline and Robotnik are rather protective of their bots. No one touches them.”
Shadow nodded. “I believe you.” He replied. He sent Sonia a message. “Little piece of advice for you: pack what you need and leave immediately. They’ll come for you.”
“Thanks.” Farrell said.
Shadow started the motorcycle and left the house.
*
Shadow pulled his motorcycle in Aleena’s driveway and parked it.
The house was partially burned, but still standing.
Sonic helped Aleena get her bags into the car.
“She’s lucky we got the fire out quickly.” Manic said.
Aleena hugged Shadow. “Thank you for getting my money back.”
“Don’t thank me just yet.” Shadow replied. “I still have to go after Robotnik and Starline.”
“I’ll take them to Tails’ place.” Sonic said. “It’s got amazing security. We should be safe there.”
“Good.” Shadow replied. He started his motorcycle and headed out.
