Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Sonic Movie/underground AU: ❯ Over the years ( Chapter 2 )
The triplets were now seven and hadn’t seen their mother since the day they left Mobius.
A year into their stay, they made peace with the fact that their mother was most likely dead.
The triplets survived by digging food out of dumpsters or picnic tables. They dug clothes out of donation boxes.
So far, they were thriving as best as they could.
Sonic made sure his siblings could reasonably care for themselves before he sent them away. He knew the echidnas were after him and he didn’t want his siblings to be killed because of him.
He hated it, but it had to be done. He prepared himself for this moment since they arrived on earth, but nothing prepared him for the heartache it was gonna cause.
“You really think it’s for the best?” Manic asked.
Sonic nodded. “You two can stay together.”
“It may be better if we don’t.” Sonia said. “I’m super strong while Manic doesn’t have any powers. I want him to be safe too.”
The triplets hugged each other.
“If anything happens, come back here.” Sonic said. “I’m not planning on leaving, especially without you. I can easily track you down with my speed.”
“Right.” Sonia and Manic replied.
The two younger siblings ran off.
Sonic dipped his chin to his chest.

Eight years had gone by and Sonic hadn’t heard from his siblings since he sent them away. He missed them and hoped they were okay, but didn’t exactly know where they went to find them or if they knew how to get back to him.
So he spent his time running around town, spying on his favorite citizens (Tom and Maddie Wachowski, who he affectionately nicknamed Donut lord and Pretzel Lady respectively) and teasing Crazy Carl by escaping the old man’s traps and sneaking food out of the man’s truck.
It was fun, but he was lonely. He missed his family. He didn’t even have friends. It was just him.
Sonic wandered around the baseball field, remembering when he and his siblings played baseball. “Sonia, Manic, I hope you’re okay.” He said. He thought about the raid on his family’s home and fought back tears.
Sonic started running the bases to work out his frustrations. “Why did this have to happen?” He thought. “Is it gonna be like this forever?”
His speed built up and, unbeknownst to him, his spines and eyes started glowing with lightning like sparks flying off of his body.
He leaped over one base to do a quick spin dash and released a blast of energy.
The streetlights shut off.
Sonic landed on the ground, breathing heavily. He noticed some of the lights in town were out as he could only see random specks of light in between gaps of darkness. “Maybe… maybe they’ll think something else caused the outage.” He said softly.
Something rustled in the trees.
Sonic raced off to his cavern. “Oh, man, I hope this doesn’t cause problems.”
*meanwhile*
Manic sat on the beach alone that night. His skateboard and bodyboard at his side. He didn’t feel like doing either of those things tonight and was wondering if he’d stay here for a little while longer or head out for another place.
He shuddered.
It wasn’t cold out and nothing was around to frighten him, but he felt like something was off.
Manic got up and gathered his things. He noticed his medallion. “I hope they’re okay.” He thought as he made his way to the boardwalk. He would peek into the houses to see if there was something on the news.
Thankfully, the first house he came across had the news on and it was talking about a mysterious power outage and sonic boom in Green Hills, Montana.
Manic sighed. “I knew it.” He muttered. He pulled a ring out of his bag and tossed it into the air.
A portal to Sonic’s cavern opened.
Manic stepped through it.

-meanwhile-
Sonia sat by a penthouse pool, looking at the lights and listening to soft music as she dangled her feet in the water.
She had been lucky to be able to hide out here, but it felt so empty. She sighed as she looked at her medallion. “Should I find them?” She thought. She turned to walk closer to the house.
Sonia noticed a news report and eased closer to the window, hiding behind a fake potted tree to avoid being seen.
The news report was about an odd blue flash and a sonic boom from Green Hills, Montana.
“It’s Sonic.” Sonia thought. “I have to find him.”
She pulled a ring out of her bag and tossed it into the air.
A portal to Sonic’s cavern opened.
Sonia stepped through it.

Sonic skidded to a stop in his cavern. He caught his breath. “Okay… what happened?”
“You tell us, bro.” Manic said.
Sonic whipped around and froze, staring wide eyed at what he was sure was his little brother.
Manic was taller and thinner now. His fur was a lot thicker or just hadn’t been brushed down in a while. His spines were longer and he had lost a piece of his left ear and had earrings clamped into both of them. He wore an old black T-shirt, fingerless gloves, and damaged combat boots. He had spiked wristbands over the cuffs of his gloves and an old backpack loaded down with pins and keychains slung over his shoulder.
“Manic?” Sonic asked.
Manic grinned as he stepped over and hugged his brother. “Yeah, bro; I missed you.”
Sonic hugged Manic. “It’s so good to see you again.” He said. He let Manic go. “You’ve changed a lot.”
“So have you.” Manic replied. “Can’t believe it’s been eight years.”
“So where’s sis?” Sonic asked.
Manic motioned to the ragged curtain in front of the makeshift bathroom. “Bathroom.” He replied. “She had been in New York, hiding in a penthouse.”
“What about you?” Sonic asked.
Manic shrugged. “Been in California for a bit, uh… Hawaii….” He replied. “I hadn’t done a lot of traveling because I’m afraid of wasting rings. I only used two rings.”
“How’s that possible?” Sonic asked.
“I stowed away on a plane to Hawaii and back.” Manic replied. “It was a challenge and I had to ride in a pet carrier, but it was fun. I hid in a camper to go to California.”
Manic rubbed his arms. “I used a ring to go back home, then two more to come back to earth and here.” He said softly. “It’s gone, Sonic. Looks like everyone got wiped out in the battle or escaped to other planets. I’m not sure what the rest of Mobius looks like, but the palace was destroyed. Ma… she’s dead. So’s Longclaw.”
Sonic bit his lip. He turned away so Manic wouldn’t see him cry.
“So… so I grabbed all the rings I could find and the papers on how to make them in Ma’s safe, then came back here.” Manic said. “I don’t know what to do with what I found, but maybe someone will. Maybe we can go back and find someone on Mobius.”
Sonia came out of the bathroom and ran over to Sonic. She hugged him. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.” Sonic said. He let Sonia go.
Sonia was wearing a dark red velvet dress with black satin gloves and leather boots. She still had her medallion along with silver bracelets.
“Wow, you look fancy.” Sonic said.
Sonia grinned. “Thank you.” She replied. “Can you believe they were throwing out perfectly good clothes?”
The triplets flinched as they heard metallic humming.
“GUN.” Manic muttered. “I heard GUN was being called in to investigate whatever you did.”
“I was running and all of a sudden lightning shot out of me.” Sonic said, grabbing his bag of rings and sliding it over his shoulder. “Then the lights went out.”
“Did it hurt?” Manic asked.
“No.” Sonic replied.
The metallic whirring grew louder.
“We can talk later.” Sonic said, picking up his siblings. “Hold on.”
Sonic, carrying his siblings, ran toward the back exit.
“Where are we heading, bro?” Manic asked.
“Donut lord’s house.” Sonic replied. “He’s my favorite person here. I’m sure we can trust him.”
