Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Sonic Movie/underground AU: ❯ An hour later ( Chapter 4 )
Manic’s stomach started growling. “Does anyone have any chips or something?”
Tom glanced at Manic in the rearview mirror. “Sorry, we’ll have to stop somewhere.”
“Good, because I hadn’t eaten anything since before we caught up with Sonic.” Manic said.
“We only had half a pack of apple chips.” Sonia added.
“I haven’t even had breakfast.” Sonic said.
“I guess we can go through a drive thru.” Tom said. He glanced at a road sign. “There’s a restaurant called Sonic on the next exit, you may like that.”
“Sweet.” Sonic said.
“Eh, I hate to bring this up, but I gotta pee.” Manic replied.
Tom sighed. “Of course.”
“I’m sorry.” Manic said.
“No, it’s fine.” Tom replied.
Sonic pulled a soda bottle out of the floorboard. “Try to pee in this.” He said, handing it back to Manic.
“No, don’t try that.” Tom said. “Hold it until we get to the town.”
“I wasn’t gonna pee in front of my sister anyway.” Manic muttered.
Sonia breathed a sigh of relief.
Manic crossed his legs and groaned softly. “How much farther is it?”
“Less than two miles away.” Tom said.
“That doesn’t tell me anything.” Manic replied. “Math isn’t my strong point.”
Sonic pointed out the windshield. “Is that the place?”
“Yeah.” Tom said. “Okay, Manic. We’re almost there. I’ll park in front of the bathroom if I can.”
Tom pulled the truck into the nearly empty parking lot.
“That should be easy.” Sonic said.
“Okay, go on and we’ll order when you get back, Manic.” Tom said, parking the truck right in front of the bathroom doors.
Manic got out of the truck and ran to the bathroom.
“Look over the menu until he gets back.” Tom said.
“Ooh, chili dogs.” Sonic said. “With a blue coconut slush.”
“That doesn’t sound like a good combination.” Tom replied.
“I’ve had worse.” Sonic said. “I got my food from the dumpsters or whatever I could find on picnic tables and Crazy Carl’s truck and traps.”
“I’m sorry, kid.” Tom replied.
“There’s no salad?” Sonia asked.
“Get a grilled chicken wrap then.” Tom said.
“Okay, that and a cherry limeade.” Sonia replied.
Manic finally came back.
“Okay, Manic, pick what you want.” Tom said.
“Ooh, the chicken strip basket and a lemonade slushie.” Manic replied.
“Alright then.” Tom said. He looked at Sonic. “Get in the back until we leave, okay?”
Sonic climbed into the back seat and sat down between Sonia and Manic.
Tom pressed the button and waited for someone to take his order.
*
Twenty minutes later and they still hadn’t gotten their food.
Sonic groaned. “C’mon, I’m waiting.”
“Dude, that’s annoying.” Manic said, rolling his eyes.
“You can stand to be more patient, Sonic.” Sonia said, looking over her nails.
“It is taking longer than most fast food places, sis.” Manic replied.
“Settle down, the food’s on its way.” Tom said.
“Finally.” Sonic muttered.
The employee brought their food over, then left.
Tom pulled his food (burger and fries) and drink cup out, then handed back the bags and drink carrier back to Sonia.
Sonia handed her brothers her food and drinks before getting her own out.
Tom started the truck. “Okay, let’s go.” He said, glancing back.
“Hey, no fair.” Sonic said. “Manic got more food.”
“You can have some onion rings or fries.” Manic said. “I can’t eat all of this.”
Sonic took some onion rings out of the box.
Tom’s phone rang.
“I’ll get that for ya.” Manic said, picking up the phone.
Tom pulled the truck out of the parking space. “No, I’ll get it in a minute.”
Manic answered the phone. “Hey, Donut lord is driving.”
“What?” Maddie asked. “Who is this?”
Sonic took the phone from Manic. “Sorry about that, pretzel lady.”
Tom reached back and took the phone. “Hey, Maddie.” He said, pulling the truck out of the parking lot. “Uh… remember the blue devil that Crazy Carl always goes on about?”
“Yeah…?” Maddie asked.
“Well, he’s the one that called you pretzel lady and his brother answered the phone.” Tom replied. “They and their sister are… alien hedgehogs? They need help. Some nut job is trying to kill them.”
“Why?” Maddie asked. “What did they do?”
Tom shrugged. “Exist and have super powers, I guess.”
“I don’t have any powers that I know of.” Manic said.
“Some Mobians have certain powers in general.” Sonic said.
“Anyway, they’re just kids.” Tom said as they left the town. “I can’t let them get killed.”
“No, of course not.” Maddie replied. “Just be careful.”
“We’ll try.” Tom said.
“We can’t make promises.” Sonic said. “Trouble seems to follow us.”
“You have no idea.” Manic said.
“Speak for yourself.” Sonia replied.
“They’re definitely siblings.” Maddie said.
“Anyway, I’ll call you when we get to a hotel.” Tom said. “Love you.”
“Love you too.” Maddie replied. “See you, little hedgehog kids.”
“Bye, Pretzel lady.” The triplets said.
Tom hung up. “Okay, what’s with this pretzel lady stuff?”
“We’ve seen her exercise.” Manic said. “Is she a super hero or is she born without bones?”
“Neither, just… I don’t know how she does it, but it’s humanly possible with practice.” Tom replied.
*
Hours later, the triplets and Tom arrived at a little hotel.
Sonic led the way inside.
Tom set the bag of supplies he picked up at the store on the dresser.
Sonia looked around. “Two beds?” She asked. “I gotta share a bed with my brothers?
“It’s for one night and we snuggled when we were babies.” Manic replied. “What’s the difference?”
“We’re not babies anymore.” Sonia said.
“So like if we were stranded in the woods and it was freezing cold, would you just freeze to death instead of huddling for warmth?” Manic asked.
Sonia bit her lip. “Hmm….”
“Fine, we’ll sleep on the floor so Princess Sonia can sleep on the bed.” Sonic said, rolling his eyes.
“Hey, I am a princess.” Sonia replied.
Tom turned to face the siblings. “Okay, you three are small enough to lay on the bed sideways and have plenty of room where you shouldn’t bother each other.”
“Manic’s a bed hog and spoons anything within arm’s reach.” Sonic said. “He wraps himself in the blankets like a mummy.”
Manic nodded.
“It’s one night.” Tom said. “Can you deal with it until then?”
“Alright.” The triplets muttered.
Tom sat on the bed and flipped the tv on.
The news was on, covering the investigation over the Green Hills sonic boom.
“I’m surprised they’re not treating us like wanted criminals.” Sonia said.
“They’re keeping it quiet so they can cover it up later.” Tom replied. He turned the tv off. “Get some sleep so we can get an early start tomorrow.”
The triplets snuggled in their bed and fell asleep.
Tom turned the lights off and settled into bed, texting Maddie about the situation.
*
Sonia groaned and shoved Manic away. “Get back on your side, Manic Edsel Hedgehog.”
“Don’t shove me.” Manic said. He glanced at Sonic, who had just farted. “Dude, go check your fur.”
Sonia groaned. “Why do you two have to be so gross?”
“I can’t help it.” Sonic said.
“You ate that disgusting chili dog.” Sonia protested.
“But I didn’t know this would happen.” Sonic said.
“Kids, go back to sleep.” Tom said groggily.
Manic got up. “I’m gonna sleep in the chair.” He said, walking over to the chair. He flopped down in the chair and pulled a jacket over himself.
The triplets and Tom finally fell asleep again.
