Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Sonic Movie/underground AU: ❯ Trouble ( Chapter 5 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

The triplets woke up to Tom bringing them breakfast and coffee.

“I got you three breakfast burritos.” Tom said, closing the door behind him. He handed the triplets their coffee and food.

 “Thanks, Tom.” The triplets replied.

Tom sat across from them and ate his breakfast.

Manic sipped his coffee. “Do either of you remember our friends?”

 Sonic sighed. “No.”

“I vaguely remember them.” Sonia said sadly.

“I kinda remember Surge.” Manic replied.

Sonia laughed weakly. “Of course you do. You had a crush on her.”

 Manic nodded.

“Don’t you have any other family?” Tom asked.

“I think our dad died when we were babies.” Sonia replied. “Our uncle died a few months before the echidnas attacked. It’s just us now.”

“I didn’t think to look for our friends.” Manic said softly. “I… I saw Ma, but… she… she was dead.”

Manic buried his face in his hands and sobbed.

 Sonia and Sonic hugged Manic.

Tom moved closer and stroked Manic’s spines. “I’m so sorry, kids.”

Manic finally looked up and wiped his eyes with his fingerless gloves. “‘M alright.” He said, sniffling. “Let’s go.”

Tom and the triplets got up and left the room.

*

Tom and the triplets drove down the highway.

Manic drummed his fingers on the door panel Sonic talked a mile a minute about something and Sonia stared out the window.

Manic spotted a drone outside the window. “Oh! Skynet is after us now!”

Sonic, Sonia, and Tom glanced out the window.

“Ugh, that guy again?” Sonic asked.

A harpoon burst threw the seats between Sonia and Manic.

 Sonia screamed.

Manic nudged Sonia into the floor.

Sonic unbuckled his seatbelt and rolled down the window. “I’ll handle this.” He said as he climbed out the window.

 “Be careful, bro.” Sonia said.

Sonic spin dashed one of the drones.

Sonia helped Manic get the harpoon out of the truck seats.

Tom pulled the truck onto the side of the road and parked it.

 A drone exploded.

 Sonia gasped.

 “Sonic!” Sonia and Manic cried.

Sonic got up and ran over to the truck. He climbed back in. “I’m fine, everyone.”

“How are you still alive?” Tom asked.

“I dunno.” Sonic replied. He held up his arm, which had a small, beeping device stuck to it. “But how do you get this off?”

Everyone got out of the truck and ran several feet away from the truck.

“I got this.” Manic said, pulling a pocket knife and a bent paper clip out of his backpack. “Hold your arm still.”

Sonic held his arm out and let Manic pull it off.

Manic sighed. “It’s sticky.” He said, trying to pry it off of his hand with his knife. “Stay back.”

Sonic and Sonia exchanged glances, but did as they were told. They curled into balls.

“Are you sure you know what you’re doing?” Tom asked.

 “Pretty sure.” Manic replied.

 Tom stepped back.

 The device exploded.

Sonic, Sonia, and Tom were knocked down from the blast.

Sonic uncurled slowly. “Oh, man, is everyone okay?”

Tom sat up while Sonia uncurled.

“Manic!” Sonic cried as he scrambled to his feet. He ran over to Manic, who was laying on the ground and unconscious.

Tom scrambled to his feet and ran after Sonic.

Sonic knelt down beside Manic. “Bro?” He asked. “Please wake up.”

Tom knelt down beside Manic and checked for a pulse. “Okay… he’s got a pulse.”

Sonic looked at Manic and reached to pull a piece of shrapnel out of his shoulder.

“Leave it.” Tom said, grabbing Sonic’s hand. “He could bleed out if you move it. Maddie will help him, okay?”

Sonic nodded as he wiped the tears out of his eyes.

Sonia made her way over to them. “Is he going to be okay?”

Tom carefully slid a board under Manic, then picked it up. “We’re gonna take him to get help.” He said, walking to the truck. “Sonic, open the door for me.”

Sonic ran over to the truck as Sonia walked alongside Tom.

Sonic opened the door and helped Tom ease Manic into the backseat, then climbed in and sat on the floor near Manic’s head.

Sonia got into the front passenger seat as Tom got into the driver’s seat.

“We’ve still got several hours before we reach Rachel’s house.” Tom said. “I’m not sure he’ll make it there.”

Sonia pulled a ring out of her purse. “We can use this.”

“Wait. You had rings the whole time?” Tom asked.

“Yeah, but we need Sonic’s rings.” Sonia replied. “We don’t know how to make more and Mother told us not to waste them.”

“Fair enough.” Tom said. “So what do we do?”

“Think of or say where you want to go, then toss it.” Sonia replied. “You can drive the truck through the portal.”

Tom started the truck and got it ready to take off. He rolled down the window. “Alright, let me have the ring.”

 Sonia handed Tom the ring.

Tom threw it out the window, then drove the truck through the portal as soon as it opened.
