Sonic arrived in Green Hills. 

 Tom and Sonia were sitting outside Maddie’s office. 

 Sonia got up and ran over to Sonic. 

 “I’m fine.” Sonic said. “How’s Manic?”

 “We’re not sure.” Sonia replied. “He’s still in surgery.”

 Sonic sighed. “Oh, man, that should’ve been me.”

 Sonia hugged Sonic. “Don’t say that.” She replied. “Manic wouldn’t feel that way.”

 The all too familiar hum of Robotnik’s drones and airship filled the air.

 Sonic turned around and narrowed his eyes.

 “Oh, forgive me for interrupting you and your girlfriend.” Robotnik said.

 Sonia gagged. 

 “Dude, she’s my sister.” Sonic said, giving Robotnik a disgusted look.

 “Well, that’s a relief.” Robotnik said. “I’m done playing around with you hedgehog. This time, you’ll get the big gun.”

 Robotnik pressed a button on his console.

 A compartment on the bottom of the ship opened and a large gun slowly emerged from the compartment’s opening.

 Sonic’s eyes started glowing turquoise. Blue sparks crackled off his spines.

 The gun fired. 

 Sonic spin dashed the missile and knocked it back into the gun. Sonic repeatedly spin dashed the ship, building up momentum.

 Sonia got a ring ready and held it up.

 Sonic nodded. He got ready to deliver a final spin dash to Robotnik’s ship. “This is for Manic.” He said. He ran over and curled into a ball. He slammed into the ship as Sonia tossed a ring into the air, pushing it through the portal to the mushroom planet.

 The portal closed.

 Sonia, Tom, and the rest of the crowd cheered.

 “Great thinking, you two.” Tom said.

 “Thanks.” Sonic replied. “I just wish Manic could’ve seen it.”

 Tom walked Sonic and Sonia to Maddie’s office. “Let’s check on him.” He said. “You two need some rest anyway.”

 *

 Sonic and Sonia saw Maddie in the waiting area and ran over to her. “Is he okay?”

 “He’ll be just fine.” Maddie said. “He’s still sleepy from the anesthesia. He’ll need to rest for a few weeks and have some checkups, but he’ll be okay.”

 “Thank you so much.” Sonia replied.

 “Thanks, it means a lot to us.” Sonic said.

 “Aww, don’t mention it.” Maddie said. “I couldn’t let him die.”

 “So I guess you’re stuck with us for a few more weeks.” Sonic said. “Then we’ll go… somewhere.”

 Tom and Maddie exchanged glances. 

 “No, you can stay with us.” Tom said.

 Sonic and Sonia hugged Tom and Maddie. “Thank you.”

 Tom hugged and kissed Maddie. “I’m gonna pick up a pizza to celebrate.” He said. “I’ll see you all at home.” 

 Tom left the office.

 Maddie led Sonic and Sonia to the exam room. “Manic might be awake now.” She said, opening the door.

 Sonia and Sonic walked into the room.

 Manic, stitched and bandaged up, was laying on the table. He woke up as soon as Sonia and Sonic reached the table.

 “Ugh… I feel like roadkill.” Manic muttered.

 Sonic hugged Manic. 

 Manic hissed in pain. “Easy, bro, I’m a little sore.” 

 Sonic let go.

 “What happened?” Manic asked.

 “You saved me from an explosion.” Sonic replied. “We took you to Maddie and she saved you while I sent Robotnik to the mushroom planet.”

 “Oh, Tom and Maddie adopted us.” Sonia added.

 “How long was I out?” Manic asked.

 “A few hours, give or take.” Sonia replied. 

 “But we’re safe, right?” Manic asked. “We’re not gonna be separated again?”

 “We’re safe and we’re staying together, bro.” Sonic replied. “No splitting up, no matter what.”

 Manic smiled weakly. “Awesome.”
