A couple of weeks later, everyone was settled into their new routine.

Tom and Maddie had fixed up the attic as a bedroom for the siblings complete with a folding panel to separate Sonia’s space from her brothers’ space and had helped the triplets bring in their things from their cavern hideout.

Maddie had bought the kids some clothes online and had them shipped to their home.

Sonic relaxed on the couch with Ozzy as he watched Speed.

Sonia was curled up on the couch with her sketchbook and a pencil.

 Sonia’s phone chimed.

Sonia looked at it. “Tom and Maddie are on their way home from work.” She said, typing a message. “They’re bringing home tacos.”

“Cool.” Sonic said as Manic walked in with his tablet.

 Manic sat down beside Sonic.

“Maddie and Tom are on their way home with tacos.” Sonic said.

“I heard.” Manic replied. “So I hacked into GUN’s database ‘cause I was bored and I found something.”

Sonic turned the tv off. “What’s that?”

“Fifty years ago, a Mobian black and red hedgehog was handed over to earth scientists by a Mobian doctor named Starline.” Manic replied. “Anyway, they were experimenting on him because he produces Chaos energy and had NIDS, though he was cured of it.”

“Oh, man, he probably died there.” Sonic said sadly.

“No, he’s in stasis.” Manic said. “He’s still around our age. Anyway, they don’t know his real name, but he was named Shadow by a scientist’s granddaughter named Maria. They were best friends until she was killed in a lab explosion.”

 “Poor kids.” Sonia said softly.

“Guess who the scientist was.” Manic said.

 “Ro-butt-nik?” Sonic asked.

“Close, his grandfather Gerald Robotnik.” Manic replied. “So are you thinking what I’m thinking?”

“I dunno.” Sonic said, smirking. “Were you thinking that we need to rent the Matrix?”

 Manic scoffed. “No, Pinky.”

 Sonia laughed.

“I know, rescue mission.” Sonic said. “Probably should run that by Tom and Maddie.”

“Definitely.” Manic replied. “I’m calling a family meeting after dinner.”
