Wolf's Rain Fan Fiction ❯ In Ebony Fur ❯ The Lonely Road ( Chapter 1 )

Valakai's eyes darted from side to side as he leaned along the wall of the alley. Making sure the road
was clear in the dead of the night. Taking a step out as Auvere followed shortly behind. His lower lip
quivering and pale from the cold air round him. Pulling that black leather trench coat snug around his
form. He began to hear his mate's whines of the same frigid climate, immediately pulling that jacket
off and moving behind her. Slidding it around her shoulders. Then moving to her right flank and watching
around them closely.
Teeth began to clatter. His arms moving up and stuffing his hands below his arms, feeling the warmth
of his arteries inside those thin arms. The black shirt with the dragon logo wasn't enough to keep him
warm but he cared more for Auvere then he did himself. Knowing full well of her health through her scent.
Her well-being was his only concern since soldiers had been running around after them. If anything had
happened to her, he'd most likely just let himself be bloodied to the point of his own death.
He remembered when they first met, that same cold city night. She had been standing there living
off food from an old bar just on the downside of town. He was half-dead from injuries and starvation. She
had taken him in like a person would an orphan, living off the same food for monthes if not days. Around
that time the so called "Wolf Hunter" arrived in town, hunting them like escaped foxes from a farm.
They shared the same fate about now. It was hard to manage both their lives but he had been willing
to do so. Both of them stopped in silence with only mere gasps as eyes widened. Listening to the steps
of leather boots. Not like the knee-high one's on Valakai's human appearing feet, soldier standard issue
boots. He moved toward Auvere's side and placing a hand on her shoulder. A sort of body language telling
her to run if anything happened.
Voices rang out in the short distance ahead of them. Two soldiers walked into the clearing of the alleys
and were speaking about paycuts. Yet, as if in slow motion they both turned their heads toward the two of
them. Leaning on the balls of their feet and taking off while firing their rifles. Yelling out into their head-sets
for help and to block off the exits of the city. There wasn't any possible way for the two of them to leave now.

It was just moments later that the two of them managed to snag their way into a back alley which was
a dead end. Shadowed from the walls and dumpsters, they were well hidden in the black clothing. Panting,
Valakai turned his head with those strands of silk hair waving. Looking toward Auvere which held her arm
over her chest. Breathing normally, which was akward for the situation. He moved toward her side to see
exactly why her eyes were closed. Which led his attention to the blood pool beneath her.
Moving her arm to see the wound where a stray bullet had gone completely through her body. Eye-lids
twitched as his arm compulsed with the urge to do something. Yanking his jacket from her shoulders and
bitting down into it, ripping it into strips with haste. Moving to wrap them around her form, tightly as possible.
It was almost to the point where it were like a corset, slowing her breathing even more but stopping the blood
from flowing out of the wound.
More time was spent at her side, trying to keep her awake with his arid and low tone. Hand around her
bloodied arm at all times. Curse those soldiers, he spoke in his mind. Resisting his own eyes from setting
over them. Waiting until daylight to move. He wanted to walk up to the soldiers and plead for help, help for
her and death for himself if it were the choice. As long as she prevaled the search for paradise. Rakuen.
The thought of Rakuen alone was just a dream for both of them. The journey there for the two was long
and more dangerous then alone in it's ways. Their love usually had gotten in the way of their movements.
If they hadn't known each other so well, and become members in the diety of love, he would have left her
to die and find Rakuen alone. Alas, the fire inside the two of them had dimmed over so long in this search,
especially now.
The Lonely Road to Rakuen. Had just begun.
