Summoner of the Dragons

Prologue

"We're under attack!!!!!!!!!"

"Have all soldiers meet the attack prepare to stop them before they reach the main hall."

"We need to evacuate the island!!!!"

"Where's the crown prince?"

Explosions rocked the ancient castle Draconis, the stronghold of the dragons. The castle was in chaos. Pieces falling off even as the bombardments kept coming. Soldiers rushed around trying to evacuate the castle. The enemy pillaged, killed, and looted. The inhabitants had no way of knowing the attack was coming. It took the peaceful place completely by surprise.

A cloaked figure ran through the castle shouting orders and ran up to a group of soldiers. "You! Have you seen the crown prince?"

The soldiers shook their heads. "The crown prince was to be in the tower with his brother, Master Shadi. We know naught but that he was to be taking his lessons with Master Ireal." [1]

Shadi cursed in a multitude of different languages, looked and began to run up the stairs that the soldiers had come down. "If any enemy soldiers come up hold them back at all costs, I cannot afford to use my magic to fight I'll need it to get the crown prince to safety."

The soldiers saluted. "Yes sir!"

Shadi ran up the ancient stairs leading to the top west tower of the castle, he was heading for a very specific and remote room in the very back corner of the tower. He entered a hall and slipped past a series of intricate paintings and then ran into a room at the very end of the hall. Inside the room you could hear childish laughter and sounds of frustration from an older male. Shadi gave a sigh of relief when he entered and saw that all was right.

He walked up to the tall white haired man that was trying to write something on a small black board with chalk. "Master Ireal if you would excuse my intrusions into your lessons."

The white haired man turned to look at the open door way where Shadi stood. Shadi stepped into the light and was faced with two pairs of curious eyes and a set of serious ones. The white haired man set down the chalk and turned to face Shadi, but before he had time to say something Shadi was knocked down by a blur of white.

"Shadi-san!!!" A high-pitched child's voice shouted excitedly. Shadi looked down at the small child in his arms. He smiled and placed his hand on the child's snow hair.

"Hello prince Ryou." The young child looked up at him and he was faced with a pair of large innocent chocolate brown eyes.

"Shadi what is it that brings you here to interrupt the princes' lessons" Master Ireal asked walking up to Shadi and gently lifting the child that was sitting on him and setting him on the ground. "You would not be here unless it was important."

Shadi stood up, his face going serious. "The castle is under attack." He stated. "There is no way that we can defend it. It is of the utmost urgency that we get the crown prince out of the castle and to safety." The two older men looked down at the other child in the room. "Prince Yami we need to get you out of here quickly."

The crown prince of the Dragon Isles frowned up at them; even at the young age of eight he looked and acted older than his age. The boy wasn't incredibly tall but he had a unique appearance his hair was spiky and three different colours maroon, black, and blonde bangs that framed his face and hung over his serious red eyes. "Why has this happened? Who would dare attack us?" However, even if he looked mature his voice was still that of an eight-year-old child.

Shadi shook his head not knowing. "We only know that it is a powerful sorcerer. We think he is here to take over the power of the dragons however he needs the sennen items for that and only members of the royal family can control those items."

Yami nodded his head at what Shadi said. "Very well then we must leave." He turned to look at his small six-year-old brother. "Come Ryou we will go with Shadi and escape this place."

Shadi looked down at the ground ashamed. "I'm sorry prince Yami but prince Ryou will not be coming with us."

"What!?!?!?" Voices young and old said as both prince Yami and Master Ireal stared at Shadi in shock and anger.

Shadi looked sadly down at the younger prince who was looking up at him sadly with those wide innocent eyes. "I have only the power to teleport myself and one other. Besides it is on the kings order that I take only the crown prince."

Master Ireal growled low in his throat. "We both know that prince Ryou is just as capable at handling the sennen items as prince Yami, what would happen if he was taken?" Looking at Shadi's troubled and resigned expression he shook his head in denial. "No! You cannot be serious he is only a child!" Master Ireal looked down at Ryou who was now held in the embrace of his older brother both softly crying.

"It is what the king ordered." Shadi said separating the two and dragging Yami out of the room." The child resisted and tried to run back to the room where his younger brother was. As he struggled the gold puzzle around his neck reflected the light.

"Yami!!! Yami!!!" Ryou shouted as he tried to run after his older brother and Shadi but Master Ireal held him back. He looked up at their old teacher as he was gently pulled back into the room.

Yami continued to try to get out of Shadi's grip but could not. Shadi turned and looked back towards the room where Master Ireal could be seen. "You know what you must do." He said calmly. "Do not make him suffer more than is necessary." Grasping the key, the ankh one of the seven sennen items, which hung around his neck with that he chanted a few words and he and Yami disappeared.

Master Ireal turned back and entered the room after Shadi and Yami had disappeared, he looked sadly down at the small prince and sighed in anger at what Shadi had left for him to do.

Everyone knew the rumour that Ryou was a bastard child born of the queen's unfaithfulness, for he looked nothing like any of the members of the royal family; whereas the king's hair was black and he had red eyes the queen had hair that looked liked it was spun from gold and her eyes were as blue as a clear days sky both had relatively dark skin. The crown prince had inherited his father's red eyes and black hair. He also received his blonde bangs from his mother and shared their skin tone. Prince Ryou on the other hand had snowy white hair and large brown eyes with skin that was incredibly smooth and pale.

Master Ireal walked over to his desk and took out a small dagger kept there in case of emergencies; it was something he had never hoped to use except for in his own defences or that of another. He turned and advanced towards the crying prince; dagger held in plain view. The child looked up at him when Master Ireal was in front of him. His eyes widened when he saw the dagger.

Frightened he backed away from the man. Ireal advanced forward until he had Ryou trapped in a corner.

The young prince looked up at him in fear; tears staining his pale face. "W-what are you g-going to do with that Ma-m-master Ireal?" he asked his voice slightly hoarse from fear and tears.

The old and wizened man knelt down and grabbed the princes' arm, bringing the dagger down only to have stopped it inches from the child's neck, unable to do the task that was required of him. He threw the dagger down and gathered the trembling child into his arms, trying to soothe him. "Hush, prince Ryou you must be silent. I am going to get you out of here but you must be silent or we will be caught do you understand?" he asked looking down into the child's tearful brown eyes and receiving a small nod in response. "Good then we must hurry."

Quickly, Master Ireal picked up the small prince and ran out of the room. He ran down the very stairs that Shadi had taken up to get to the princes' lessons room but unlike Shadi he encountered no one going down the stairs. All he saw were the bodies of dead soldiers. He made sure the princes' eyes were shielded from the site of the dead guards and continued running down the stairs. When he reached the bottom he took a right and headed for the great hall and the main exit of the castle thinking only of getting the child in his arms to safety and not whether or not there would be enemy soldiers in the area. This mistake cost him his life.

Just as Master Ireal thought they were safe by reaching the great hall, an arrow pierced through his back and almost into prince Ryou who cried out in fear as Ireal began to fall. The dying man managed to roll onto his side so that Ryou didn't get injured. He hit the ground and grunted as pain ran through his body. Ireal looked up at Ryou who was crying and shaking him trying to get him up.

Master Ireal who'd been in the service of the Draconis family for 50 years smiled sadly up at the boy trying to help him. "Ry-Ryou." The boy looked at him eyes overflowing with tears. "Y-you must esc-ape from here. Run to th-the kitchens and go through the back d-do-door. You must not be captured at any cost, d-do y-you un-unde-understand?"

The small child nodded and began to get up only to have Ireal place something in his hand. Curiously he looked down at the necklace that was placed there, he looked down at Ireal for an explanation; the boy's six-year-old mind could not comprehend all that was going on.

"It's th-e sennen ring. One of the seven items ne-needed to c-call the dr...a…gon…s." Ryou's eyes widened as Master Ireal took his last breath. He shook his head in denial at what had just happened for he had never seen death before. He was about to fall down and start crying again, when he remembered what Master Ireal had told him before he died.

Without hesitation, Ryou got up and ran towards the kitchen as fast as his little legs could carry him. He had almost reached the door to the kitchens when he was suddenly lifted up into the air. Terrified he began kicking and screaming.

"Croquet what have you got there?" asked a curious voice from somewhere behind Ryou and the man that was holding him.

"Master Pegasus I caught this child trying to run into the kitchens he may know something about the whereabouts of the crown prince." Croquet said turning to face Pegasus, allowing Ryou to look at the man face to face.

Pegasus was a tall young man wearing a deep red robe. He had silvery grey straight hair that fell down to his shoulders, covering his left eye; his eyes, a light brown colour. Even though he sounded pleasant the small prince had a feeling he was a very bad man. [2]

Pegasus looked at the boy, held in Croquet's grip. "Well child, do you know where prince Yami is?" He grabbed Ryou's chin forcing the small boy to look at him. "Where is the crown prince? If you don't tell me I will not hesitate to kill you."

"You're never gonna get the power of the dragons! My big brother's far away from here and you'll never ever find him!!!" Ryou shouted at him; his small face red with anger.

"Your big brother? I wasn't aware that the king had more than one son." He looked at Croquet and they had the exact same thought. Pegasus took Ryou from Croquet's grip and grinned at the boy. "Well young prince what is your name?"

Ryou looked up at the man now holding him even though he was scared of the man he was more afraid of what this man could do to him or his brother. "R-Ryou" he said in small gasps while wiping the tears from his eyes with his tinny fists.

"Well prince Ryou we are going to become good friends." He grinned evilly as he saw the sennen item in the boy's hand. "Very good friends." He turned from Croquet and began walking into the throne room. "Croquet, have the men scout for any remaining civilians… and kill them. We have what we need now to attain the power of the dragons."

"Yes Master Pegasus."

Pegasus once again looked down at the child in his arms. "You will be the one to help me achieve my goals little prince whether you want to or not." He said as he reached and brushed the hair from his eye exposing the golden eye that lay concealed beneath it. The eye flashed as if agreeing with him.
