"Okay."

Shizuru looked down the hallway, then motioned to Yusuke that it was safe to continue. Yusuke dragged Kurama's youko form in, following Shizuru to Kuwabara's bedroom and laying him clumsily down on the bed. Shizuru left and Yusuke gratefully sat on a chair, completely exhausted. He was sweaty and in need of a drink badly.

Shizuru returned with a glass of water, and Yusuke drank it quickly, not even bothering to stop and catch his breath. "Thanks…"

Shizuru watched Kurama. His youko form was slowly breathing in and out; calmly even; completely unaware that he had been moved. Compared to the fact that he was near death, his breathing was relatively normal. It looked like he was only sleeping. "Are you sure he'll be all right? He's safe, but we don't exactly have hospital type medicines, or equipment."

"Yeah," Yusuke finished off the last drops of the water. "Don't worry. He won't just roll over and die, if that's what you mean. I know that for a fact. Kurama's tough." Yusuke leaned back in the chair, trying to breathe evenly and catch his breath. He didn't even bother to listen to his body's complaints.

Shizuru nodded, accepting his answer and began to take off the stupid things they had piled on Kurama to keep his details hidden. She pulled off the loose hat and cover; straightened out his curled up tail. Without looking at Yusuke she spoke. "There are more blankets in the hall closet. Can you get them for me?"

"Yep." Yusuke rose with a slight grunt and left into the hallway to grab the blankets from the closet. He returned with two thin blankets, all that was in there. When he had made his way back into the room, Shizuru had Kurama settled comfortably; Yusuke handed her the towels. She took them without saying a word and covered the sleeping demon with that finished she looked at Yusuke and told him that he needed to rest as well. He began to protest, he felt if someone came to attack then he- she stopped him by telling him that if someone did come, she would beat them up herself or wake him if need be.

"You can sleep on the couch. Don't worry about this guy, Yusuke. I'll watch him for you."

"Well, okay, I guess." He made his way to the outer room. He hadn't realized how tired he was, but now he gae in and paid attention to his body's complaints. It seemed like every part of his body, especially where the muscle met bone, had been ripped or pulled to the extreme. He tried to sit slowly, but his body just felt all wobbly and he practically fell onto the sofa. Without even bothering to reposition or stretch out into a comfortable position, he was deeply asleep.

Rakuto's Return

Chapter Four: Enemy Revealed

From the top to the bottom,

Bottom to top I stop.

At the core, I've forgotten

In the middle of my thoughts

Taken far from my safety

The picture is there

The memory won't escape me,

But why should I care…

"Goddammit, you stupid runt! Where the hell are you?!?" Kuwabara continued to scream out at Hiei, who was long gone and out of sight. Kuwabara has gotten lost long ago, with only the slight hint of correct direction that Hiei had left to before.

"DAMIIIIIIIIIT!" he was getting madder and madder. All Hiei was doing was leaving him behind to get lost! Again!

Kuwabara froze. He felt some presence behind him, weak in a way. Something- a rustling noise! Kuwabara whirled around, okay what now?!? He was ready to fight.

"Come on out!"

Someone or thing was half way up in the bushes behind him, then quickly crumpled to the ground with a groan. Kuwabara stood there for a moment, debating whether to risk taking a look or just leave the youkai for dead. Kuwabara noticed that the youkai had a very weak energy aura emanating from him. Weaker than he thought. Well, if he's hurt… he cant fight back all THAT much…

"Ku-wa…ba..ra…" Kuwabara couldn't help but move closer, and once he did he caught sight of silver ears and hair; weak golden eyes looking up at him. Kuwabara sucked in air so fast that it almost hurt. "Dear go- Kurama! What happened?" he couldn't say anymore as he looked at the hurt fox. He had cuts all over his body, the largest around his wrists. He had a piece of metal near his eye and the skin around it seemed to look as if it had been melted; the eye on that side half open. He had three parallel cuts running across his cheek as he lay there on his stomach; his upper body roughly resting on his elbows and forearms. Kuwabara couldn't believe it was real, as he placed a hand gently on Kurama's shoulder. He realized Kurama was shaking and decided to search the colleagues mind to find answers to what had happened. The only thing he got was darkness and jumbled thoughts. "Kurama-man, I'm sorry…"

Kurama shook his head slightly, all he could do. "No. Its not your- fault." He looked up. "Where's Hiei?"

"I'm sorry. I lost him a long time ago. But we need to get you back. You're about to die and your family is worried!"

Kurama gave Kuwabara a horrified look that Kuwabara had never seen before in anyone's eyes. "Are you crazy?!? Not like this! I- I can't!"

Kuwabara relaxed a bit, still shocked by the sudden outburst. "Well, maybe… maybe it wont show… as Shuichi, yea?"

Kurama sagged on one side, his arms becoming weak. "Kuwabara … I- I wish Hiei was here." He bowed his head. "I wanted to- I needed to ask him… if he could … still love me- like this."

Kuwabara froze. What?!? His arms were limp at his sides and the expression on his face couldn't be described by words alone. He was just so surprised. " lo- love????" He had just found out about Hiei and Yukina, and now Hiei and Kurama: lovers?!? This was way past what he expected. He always thought Kurama and Hiei were just really good friends!

"Yes, love. Hiei and I, yes." Kurama replied, his voice quivering.

Kuwabara couldn't stand it any more, he sat down hard next to Kurama, reviewing all he had learned. Hiei: Yukina's brother… and Kurama's… bleh? He suddenly got the thought of the two men hugging or kissing. His mind wandered a little farther down that path, and he found himself slapping his face to get the thoughts of the two men together out. "I-I'm sure we'll find Hiei in a bit, but for… uh, now, we gotta get back at the bastard who did this to you."

Kurama shook his head, almost reluctantly. Kuwabara was puzzled by the move, but made no comment. "I don't know who it was though. I couldn't…" Kurama trailed off.

"Well," Kuwabara stood and began to help Kurama up, bracing the hurt fox on his shoulder. Man, I really hope he isn't gay. "We better get going, or you're gonna die." Kuwabara got a weird feeling as he walked off, almost like something bad was going to happen. He couldn't help but remember the reluctant shake of his head Kurama had given him just minutes ago, and wonder what that was about.

Hiei stood on a branch if a large dying tree that stood up higher that all the rest. He was watching the new building he had found at a safe distance. Who knew what little surprises were just waiting for him to just rush in like the idiot Kuwabara would? He noticed small shapes patrolling around it and in the small undense forest surrounding the odd building.

It looked like one of those four-sided pyramids he had seem in one of Kurama's ningen books. The only difference was that it was a weird tan gold color. Stuck out like a sore thumb, as stupid humans said. He used the power of his Jagan to search the structure for Kurama's youki, but there were many other demons around and he noticed a Kekkai barrier surrounding the inner portion of the building. Both made it harder to find the fox, but Hiei knew he felt Kurama somewhere inside there. He was there, Hiei knew.

Hiei cursed at his weakness, how he hadn't been able to find Kurama inside with his Jagan and began running from tree branch to tree branch to the gold obstacle. He snuck by all the patrolling weaker demons easily; sneaking inside the pyramid without any noticing, but he knew someone had to know he was already there. He didn't care; he just wanted to find Kurama.

He walked down the middle of the hallways; it was weird: surprisingly quiet and there were no guards inside. He watched suspiciously for someone to jump out and scream he was there, but none did. He found himself in a room with three other exits and stairs spiraling straight down. He guessed the other exits lead to the other three sides of the pyramid and continued down the stairs.

Once down he found four apparently thick doors around him, one on each side of the stairs that had suddenly ended. He thought this was a good distance below the surface and he couldn't help but think of how this layout wasn't half bad, as he tried to decide what door to take.

He snarled and decided that standing around trying to decide wasn't doing any good to anyone, so he just chose a door and began to enter.

Kuwabara looked at the blank forest; Kurama was pointing to the left of a weird pyramid building; a strikingly tan gold color standing out from the green and dark of forest. Kuwabara looked at Kurama. "Are you sure?"

A sudden grin left Kurama, replaced by a trusting look of friendship. "Yes. That was the way I used to get out. Trust me, its safe."

"Well, yer my friend and I DO trust you, so lets go." He reshifted Kurama's weight on his shoulder and the two began off towards what Kurama said was an unknown way in and out of the building. Kurama ears twitched and Kuwabara felt something weird around them. He stole glances around and saw weakly dark forms following them. "Hey, someone's watching us.." he whispered to Kurama.

Kurama stole a glance to those behind them and made a weird look. "Don't worry about them. They know they stand no chance against us, even in the dark."

The beings in the dark now seemed to be running away as fast as they could, so Kuwabara continued on, pushing the low branches of trees and kicking undergrowth from their way as he went. Kuwabara began thinking, what was that look Kurama gave their pursuers? He knew Kurama didn't know he was watching him.

Kuwabara had a weird feeling about this all, but he said nothing and continued through a tunnel quickly leading down below the pyramid.

Hiei cursed as he re-sheathed his sword yet again after facing yet another demon that had appeared in the dad end room behind the third door he tried. He was getting very angry; where the hell was the fox? Every door he had tried so far led to a dark, dank room that seemed to end in dead ends, and in each one there was either some large demon or a group of smaller ones waiting for him! he cursed more, but stopped when he heard noises behind him and a voice crying out: "Hiei!?"

Hiei whirled around to see Kuwabara, with Kurama! Hiei rushed towards them, but made no motion to show any affection at all in front of Kuwabara. Kurama suddenly released off of Kuwabara and clutched onto Hiei. "I thought I might never see you again…"

Kurama…

Hiei froze; he still didn't want to show any emotion at all in front of the idiot.

"Hiei, will you still love me- can you? Like this…"

Hiei cursed in his head as he turned with a quick glare at Kuwabara; daring him to make fun.

"I already know." Kuwabara replied.

But why would Kurama tell him? Kurama looked into Hiei's eyes, loving and happy; tears at the edges. Hiei stared at Kurama; something was wrong. Terribly wrong with Kurama.

Hiei suddenly shoved the youko rudely away, making Kurama scream in slight pain as he fell back.

"Hiei! Are you nuts?!" Kuwabara screamed, beginning to go to Kurama aid.

Hiei, in one swift movement, drew his sword and struck open Kurama's tunic and added a new wound. Blood seeped into the white clothes.

"Who are you and where is Kurama?!" Hiei yelled at the youkai as he changed from a fox to a dark haired human looking youkai. His hair came over the right side of his face, hiding some of the contours, but the same features that were on `Kurama's' face, were now on his as the two realized he had been playing them from the beginning; his dark blue eyes flaming at the two.

"Rakuto!!" Kuwabara screamed in surprise.

"Kurama-" The new being said the name like a curse word. "You will not have him back."

[Afterthoughts: Okay, enough with the blah blah blah, -Yay! Hiei and Kuwabara will be fighting next! And I still feel so horrible for putting Kurama in that situation. I never meant to hurt him-believe me! I love Kurama! He's my favorite character! Hiei's pretty far up there too! -but I just needed to say that again, for all the Kurama and/ or Hiei fans who are just dying to kill me for what I've done, but I think it makes a good story. It has a lot of good stuff in it (I think). Well, currently, I am also working on another completely original fic- its all mine! Really, its completely original, and I am just loving writing it now- but I should be able to get about one chapter of this posted a week, depends on what I'm doing… Gomen- Sayonara!]
