Want to Hate it but Can't
This anime is one I want to hate. Its got childish animation, little in the way of cell shading and the first three disks are episodic and relatively bad. But then you hit disk four and while the production values are the same, it gets surprise drama, depth, and emotion. Part of this is excellent voice acting by Funimation in the English dub, and part of this is the actual content of the story, of which the first three disks is merely character and setting intro. This anime begs to be redone and given a better title. Kiddy Grade is a real turn off title, when its really about Abuse of Power and should be called as such. The setting is very grim, with politically approved genocide, wage slavery, massacres, and general oppression of the public so the rich can stay rich and the poor stay in their place. The heroines of this story suffer and die, and live again to suffer once more. They have to deal with the bad things they've done, and see bad things done to them. Its actually impressive despite the child-level animation. I keep mentioning it because it never improves or stops being annoying, no matter how good the story is. This anime cries out to be redone, much like Negima?! was redone for better quality and proper canon storyline. I really hope they do. This story deserves a more honorable animation.
