Are you sure my boy?" the old man asked.
"I'm sure" Duo replied, slightly subdued.
The war had just ended. He had gone to one last parties with his friends,
the other pilots. And now, it was time to implement his longest running
scheme. It was time that Duo Maxwell dissapeared.
Reachin forward, he took a small container, a pair of scissors, and some
chemicals from the doctor, and shuffled into his room on the shuttle. There,
he took out the contacts that made his eyes look an unnaturally bright
violet. Staring back at his own eyes, he already felt different. Next, he
cut off his braid. It wasn't that his braid didn't mean anything to him, it
did. But he had hyped it up to become Duo Maxwell. To himself, it was
nothing more than gorgeous long hair that happened to be his.
Cutting it short and into bangs, he looked at the almost totally different
face staring back in the mirror. Everyone who saw him just saw the long
braid, the violet eyes, and sometimes the priests collar. Very few people
took the time to look at face, bone structure and body build and it wasn't
like he'd been close to many people. Just the other pilots and Hilde. Relena
and Sally stood a far lower chance of recognising him, and after changing
the 'unchangable ' colour of his eyes, he was convinced they wouldn't.
Stripping down to nothing, he didn't spare his body a glance in the mirror.
That still told the tale, but others where unlikely to see it.
Walking out of the room with a fresh pair of green cargo pants and a simple
white t-shirt, he couldn't be distinguised from any other boy on the street.
Now though, was time to go back home. Back to L2 and to see if he could make
a living for himself, as himself.
Time to leave everyone, including the mask and act that was Duo Maxwell
behind.
"See ya, old man! " he waved jauntilly, as the shuttle touched down on the
moon for his stopover shuttle.
The end.
