Chapter three: Blanket Scenario part two.

I normally don't like to use suffixes like -san, -sama, -chan. However . . . Sesshomaru is the Lord of the Western Lands and he feels it is very important that he is addressed properly. So . . . Kagome will be addressing him using Sir, Lord, etc. as a substitute. (So, if Kagome addresses Sesshomaru as Sesshomaru, Sir, that is basically Sesshomaru-sama. Lord Sesshomaru is basically Sesshomaru-dono. Technically Sesshomaru-kami is also a term that Sesshomaru would respond to, but that doesn't translate well. A bit too pompous, even for him.)

Corrected by Angelica Birmingham. Thank you.

Sesshomaru thrusts the first aid pamphlet at Kagome. "Read this and explain the terms." He glares at her.

Kagome reads the section on hypothermia to Sesshomaru, then explains the English and Latin-based terms.

Kagome's voice catches. She glances back and forth between her sleeping bag and Sesshomaru as she says, "Placing Patient in a sleeping bag and providing contact with a warm body." she grimaces.

'Most of the other things in this list say take the person to the nearest hospital. Which is impossible. So . . . ' she thinks.

"Hmmm . . you seemed to be somewhat prepared for this. Why?" Sesshomaru asks, her embarrassment as she reads the list is very apparent.

"Prepared? I'm not prepared!" she says excitedly. "All I've got is my spare uniform, a couple of towels and my sleeping bag! Oh . . . plus a rain coat." Kagome shivers, "Though, even at home, I don't have anything designed to last in a blizzard."

He growls at her. "That is not what I meant, woman." he points to the pamphlet. "You were prepared for this and had thought about it."

Kagome blushes and she whispers, "Yes, I had thought about something like this."

She shakes her head. "I've dreamed of being in trouble and Inu-yasha having to save me." She blushes, smiles and looks at Sesshomaru. "And I've dreamed of me saving him." she sighs.

"This Sesshomaru will never need you to save him."

She stares into his eyes. "You heard what I just said Sesshomaru. Tonight . . . to keep us both from freezing to death," she gestures to her sleeping bag, "we'll have to sleep together. And while your body heat will be saving my life, mine will be saving yours."

"This Sesshomaru can survive without your help, human."
"Fine! Have it your way, then." she glares at him. "We'll still have to sleep together, if only to save my life."

"Perhaps I don't need you to activate the cube."

"Sesshomaru," she pauses, rubbing her head to relieve the headache she's getting, " *sigh* my instincts tell me that it'll take both of us to activate it. What do your instincts tell you?"

"..." Sesshomaru looks away from her.

"Why did the child, Rin, have it in the first place?"

"She found it on the ground next to the demon. She wasn't hurt when she touched it. It offended my senses, but I could not determine why. I brought it to you because of your oddness." he gestures to the objects that she took out of the bag.

"And when we touched it . . . it sent us elsewhere." she pauses, and then she whispers, "Do you know where we are? I feel strange."

"No . . . we are not in Japan. That is certain." he replies. His eyes narrow and he says, "You are a miko. Why haven't you tried to use the mystic senses that were given to you?"

"Huh? No. I've been too busy trying to get warm."

"Use them. Now."

"Can't it wait until? .."

"No. Miko training is supposed to make you able to ignore minor physical discomfort."

Kagome rolls her eyes and shakes her head. 'It'll take too long to explain. It's easier just to do it. Later, I can explain that I've never had that type of training.' she thinks.

Kagome swallows, closes her eyes, and tries to use her mystic senses.

Pause.

She cringes and moans, "Nnnooo . . . " she shivers and opens her eyes. "This . . . this isn't Earth. I had hoped . . . we were just in Antarctica. But," she shakes her head and tears start to form in her eyes.

"Antarctica?"
"A land, a large land, thousands of kilometers to the south."

"Kilometers?"
"Oh, sorry . . . I forgot that word isn't invented yet . . . "

Sesshomaru's eyebrows rise at that statement.

Kagome quickly says, "You know the distance between Edo and Kyoto? Of course you do, sorry. Anyway . . . It's more than 30 times that distance and to the south. But that doesn't matter, we're not there. This planet is harder on life than Earth. I can feel it."

She pauses as looks at Sesshomaru. "I'm going to lay out my sleeping bag and get in it. Even with the flare, I'm still cold."

He grunts. Picks up one of her books, ignoring her and starts to flip through it.

Kagome takes out her rain coat and she lays it on the ground. She then places her sleeping bag on top of it. 'The sleeping bag is waterproof, but putting another layer between it and ice couldn't hurt.' She thinks.

'Once I get into the sleeping bag, I'm not going to want to come out, so is there anything else I need to do before that?' She thinks. Her stomach growls.

"Oh, yes . . . we'll be using up a lot of calories to stay warm." She mumbles, and starts to pull out some ramen. 'I've even got a couple of the beef mixes left. Hopefully, Sesshomaru will like them.' She thinks.

"I'm going to make some food, Sesshomaru. I've got some . . . "

"This Sesshomaru will not eat anything you prepare."

"Huh?" She glares at him. "Look I don't care how powerful you think you are, Sesshomaru. That cube has drained both of us. I'm hungry and I'm sure you are too."

He glares at her.

"And to keep warm, we need something in our stomachs." She finishes.

"No."

She rolls her eyes up at him. "Fine then. I'll make some anyway. I'm sure that your body, once you start to smell it, will be smarter than your brain is."

Sesshomaru narrows his eyes, "This Sesshomaru might need you to work that cube. You might even have to be alive to do so." He glances at her body. "The exact condition of the rest of your body is optional, however." He holds up his hand and flexes his claws.

She stares at him. "You wouldn't."
"I would." he stares at her.

The glare between them increases . . .

"I trust you, Sesshomaru. You will not harm me." Kagome whispers. She bows her head, flips her hair off her neck and shows the back of her neck to Sesshomaru.

A pause.

"Politeness is highly valued by this Sesshomaru."

Kagome raises her head. "I am sorry, for the insult." her mouth twitches. "Blame it on living with your brother, perhaps."

Sesshomaru nods his head. "Acceptable."

"Thank you, Sess . . . Lord of the Western Lands." he nods again.

Her mouth twitches into a smile again. "It will take awhile to adjust. The only way to get through to Inu-yasha was to yell and insult him. I'll try not to insult you again."

"Don't try. Do."

She sighs. "Very well. Lord of the Western Lands, in order to survive tonight, our bodies will be burning food faster than normal. I will be preparing additional food for myself. I strongly believe that you need to eat as well. May I please prepare some food for you?"

"No. This Sesshomaru will not eat food that you have prepared."

"May I inquire why?"

"No."

Kagome glares at Sesshomaru, whose _expression has not changed throughout this conversion. She sighs. 'It's not worth it. If he wants to be an idiot, let him. I'll just remember to save some for him.' She thinks as she shivers, 'The flare is working better than I thought it would. I might not have to burn all my books tonight, but I'm still cold.'

"Lord Sesshomaru."

He looks up.

Kagome holds out her lighter. "In case you need to start a fire, use this." She flicks the lighter. The flame burns. "I'm also going to put my flashlight in my sleeping bag . . . " she shows him how to work it, "in case we need light. I want it to be warm, not freezing."
'More strange objects. Where do they come from? Exactly where does she come from?' Sesshomaru thinks.

She thinks as she prepares her meal. It's a simple meal of cold ramen and a can of tea. 'A non-calorie sugar substitute . . . just when I need calories'

'I try to make sure my food is healthier. Now . . . I wish I had something with a lot of calories . . . '

She smiles, goes over to the bag and starts digging again. 'Shippo's chocolate. Calories . . . just what I need tonight.'

As Kagome prepares and eats her meal, Sesshomaru looks through her books and thinks. 'These are unlike anything I have read or heard about. Even the rumors of the western barbarians that have been showing up in China do not match this.' He minutely narrows his eyes at Kagome. 'Do I ask her? Showing interest in her might be taken the wrong way . . . then, I will make sure it will not.' he nods. A decision has been made.

'Very persistent, girl.' he thinks as she tries to push a bowl of food in his direction, by accident, of course. He ignores it. 'My body will obey me.' he thinks as he tries to ignore the signals his body is sending him. 'I am not tried. I am not hungry. That cube did not drain me. I can survive the cold. I'm not cold.'

Kagome shakes her head at his refusal of the food and she eats it. 'Waste not.'

Kagome looks at Sesshomaru. He is sitting against the ice wall. He is looking through her books. He is looking at her Social Studies book at present. His clothes are draped around him. His white tail is in need of grooming. She can see the water drip off and freeze when it hits the ground. When he was digging the chamber, ice chips must have covered him and has melted, due to his body heat, all over him.

'He has to be freezing. Why isn't he saying anything? Stupid male ego.' she thinks. 'He needs to get inside my sleeping bag as bad as I do.'

Kagome drags her backpack next to her sleeping bag.

She smiles as she drops her math book into the pot. 'Something to burn.' She slides into the bag and rustles around.

'I'm tired and cold, how I wish Inu-yasha was here. This would be so much easier if it was him, not Sesshomaru.' She thinks as she moves around in the sleeping bag. 'The first aid pamphlet says body to body warmth is best. So . . . ' She places her skirt, shirt and bra into her backpack. 'I don't like doing this. It'll make me sound like a loose woman, but. I'll need his warmth to live through the night.' She swallows."Sesshomaru, Due to that cube, I've become very tried and would like to go to sleep."

He looks at her expressionlessly.

She swallows. "Would the Lord of the Western lands, please, join me in my sleeping bag?" she whispers. Her face blood red from her blush.

End chapter 3

Sesshomaru's white boa/tail. For the purposes of this storyline. It is his tail. They need to have the extra protection from the cold.
