Daddy Dearest

Things were about to get more complicated. Leo-Kana made it back home by morning. They froze in their tracks.

“What is it?” Kana asked.

“No…” Leo said. A beat-up gray pick-up truck sat in the parking lot in front of them.

“What?” Kana asked. Leo ran towards the apartment.

“Leo?” the nymph asked. He ran to the front door.

“Mom!” he shouted as he bust it open. His mom sat on the couch, looking at him.

“Welcome home,” she said. A man sat next to her. He looked muscled in his flannel shirt and jeans. His black beard needed a trim.

“Hello, Leo,” he said. The boy frowned as he glared at him.

“Why the hell is he here?” he asked.

“Nice to see you too,” the man said.

“Who is that?” Kana asked.

Shut up.

Motoko gave him a strange look. “You feeling okay?” Leo pointed at his father.

“What is he doing here?” he asked. His parents looked at each other.

“I came over in the early morning,” his father said.

“But why?” Leo asked. “What do you want? Money?”

“No,” his father said. The boy narrowed his eyes.

“I don't believe you,” he said to the buff man.

“Leo!” Motoko shouted.

“What?” her son asked. She held her ex's hand.

“He's come home,” Motoko said. Leo looked confused.

“What?” he asked. Motoko had a cheesy grin on her face. Her son put the pieces together and frowned.

“No…” he said. His father squeezed her hand.

“Yes,” he said. Leo shook his head.

“No! No! Hell no!” he shouted.

“Leo,” Motoko said. Her son threw his hands up in the air.

“I'm not doing this! Nope! No! No!” Leo shouted. He walked off to his room.

“Leo!” Motoko said. Her ex stopped her from getting up. She turned her head. He shook his head.

“But…” Motoko said.

“Just let him be,” the man said. “This is a lot for him to take.” She started to say something but closed her mouth instead.

Leo stormed back to his room. He slammed the door behind him.

“Who was that Leo?” Kana asked. He groaned and rubbed is forehead.

“He's my dad,” he said. Kana paused with a confused look on her face.

“Your dad?” she asked. Leo nodded.

“Yeah,” he said. The boy sank to his knees and sighed. He looked at his door, shaking his head.
