“I won!” Ash cheered, spinning Max around in his arms. The younger boy grinned, nodding.
It was amazing! His Father had given him tickets to the Shinou Pokemon League Championships as a tenth birthday present, and he had come to watch Ash compete! It had been a hard fight, but Ash's Floatsel had finally defeated Richard's Flygon in the last match! Ash had definitely gotten better as a Trainer!
Pikachu had defeated Juliet's team of Dewgong and Sealeo easily, though Ash had been forced to pull out Monferno when faced with her Tangrowth. But it had been worth it.
“So, Ash, what are we going to do now?”
“I've got a week's stay in the Grand Hotel in the Resort Area. Do you want to come?” He asked.
“Sure.” Max breathed. That was more than he could have hoped for!
Brock and Dawn greeted Max cordially.
Max twitched when he saw Dawn. She reminded him of May - another weak girl obsessed with Contests.
No wonder she wasn't a Pokemon Trainer - he doubted he could get a single Gym Badge! And she was so fussy about her appearance!
He didn't like girly-girls…

No, Max liked Ash. He liked him a lot. But how would he tell the older boy how he felt?
Maybe he could, soon.
They did have a week in a hotel, after all…
