Chapter 8

Touma walked up to Seiji, but he bumped against a chair that was in his way and fell. The blond rushed towards him to help him to get up, but the archer pushed back him. "Leave me, I do not need your help !" He shouted while crying.

"But what's gotten into you ?" Asked Seiji a little surprised by his friend's reaction.

Touma got up and went back to his bed. "I didn't want you to know…"
"To know what ?" He asked by staring at the eyes of Touma. His stare unnerving, his expression is so empty, like someone that is... All of a sudden, several details returned to the mind of Seiji. The appointments in the eye doctor, the inflammations, glasses, the letter saying that he was no longer suited to fight. "Touma, are you-"
"Yes... I am... blind." The tears were falling once more.
"W-Why didn't you tell me ? Why did you leave ?" He gently extended a hand to the archer's cheek as he felt his own tears begin to run.
"Seiji, I almost killed you. I felt so ashamed... Go away please, I want to be alone !"
"But Tou -"
"Get out of here !!!" He forced away the hand that Seiji had on his cheek.

In the corridor, Lyne watched Seiji leave the room, running as fast as he could. She dashed off in pursuit of him and finally caught up with him before he could leave the hospital.

"But where are you going ?" She said by catching the wrist to him.
"He asked me to leave."
"And you listened to him ? I want to know one thing, did you tell him that you loved him ?"

The blond shook his head.

"I am starting to understand why you aren't going together as a couple. Just like him with you, you are unable to confess your feelings to him." She rummaged through her bag and placed a business card in his hand. "I would like for you to come to my house tomorrow evening around seven. I'll cook. Okay ?"

"All right," he wiped the tears from his face. "Promise me that you will not tell him."
"Promise."

Touma was lying on his bed, sniffling, when he felt somebody sit down beside him.

"Here, take a handkerchief."
"Is he gone ?" He asked while hiccuping and seizing the handkerchief.
"Of course and I would point out you that it is you who asked him to leave so nicely. He saves your life and that's how you thank him." She took the next few minutes to tell him off.

After which, Lyne announced to him that the doctors were allowing him to leave, provided that he was under constant supervision during the next 48 hours. She proposed thus to him to come to live with her, a proposal that he accepted immediately, seeing as he hated being in hospitals.

In his hotel room, Seiji's mind went in circles while continually going over many different things. 6 months ago, Touma wrote a letter to him saying that he loved him and now he did not even want to be in his presence anymore. What to do ? Must he to give up any hope at one day being happy with him ?

It was two in the morning. It was necessary that he tried to get some sleep, because in a few hours he was due to go to his kendo tournament. Once lying down, he did not find the sleep, he was too anxious for anything like that.

After having been tossing and turning for about a good twenty minutes in his bed, he ended up getting up and sitting down in the armchair close to the window. He opened the curtains and began observing the sky. It was almost a full moon that night. The sky was beautifully clear and thousands of stars twinkled. I understand why Touma loves looking at them so much, it's so soothing.

***

After a short and somewhat agitated night, Seiji left for his tournament with a morose feeling in his heart.

Even if the kendo was his passion, he didn't truly want to take part in this competition.

He succeeded in just passing the first round. When he was found opposite his second adversary, all his thoughts began to settle Touma. His rival took advantage of his distraction by striking him when he was not ready to avoid it, causing his elimination.

One hour later, he returned to the hotel by thinking that his grandfather would definitely reproached him for his defeat during the next few weeks. But he was hardly concerned with it.

There still remained a few hours for him before going to Lyne's home, and so he could rest for a short while.

***

Arriving in front of the door to Lyne's house, Seiji found an envelope that was addressed to him, stuck between the door and frame. He opened it and could read :

True happiness arises only once, so do not allow it to pass you by... And now ring.
Lyne

The kendoka was somewhat disorientated. Certainly, this girl was trying to confuse him. As indicated by the note, he rang the doorbell and waited.

The click of the bolt rang out in the corridor, after which the door half-opened.

"Hey Lyne, did you still forget your keys ?" Touma asked as his head appeared in the half-open door.
"Touma ?!?"
