| Biography: | I have a confession to make. I used to chide my son for becoming so involved in that silly anime he watched religiously. He and his friends would carry on conversations as if they were speaking of real people. He purchased videogames, t-shirts, movies, and television episodes.
Whenever he and his friends would bring up Dragonball Z in conversations, I would try my best to show them what a waste of time it was to become so engrossed in it. I feared for their sanity.
Then one night, the impossible happened.
As usual, my son was watching a DBZ episode he had watched numerous times before. I started to bring up my usual thoughts on the series, when I stopped and asked him what was going on.
He explained what was happening, using strange names like Goku, Cell, Trunks, Saiya-jin, Kamehameha, etc. All through the 30-minute episode, he patiently answered my questions, telling me over and over again that it was easy to tell Goku and Yamcha apart – Yamcha had scars on his face and wasn't a Saiya-jin. I lasted through the entire episode and went to bed.
The next night, I was back in front of the TV. Who on earth was this Hercule character? What a moron! My son told me what was soon going to happen to Goku, so I decided to watch the next few episodes until his demise.
Now I have an enviable collection of DVD episodes, as well as anything else I can buy (within reason!) I've expanded my anime obsession a bit beyond DBZ, too. There's Inu Yasha, Fruits Basket, Yu Yu Hakusho, .Hack/Sign, Gravitation, Gundam Wing, Rurouni Kenshin, Fushigi Yuugi, Saiyuki, Saiyuki Reload, and I'm sure I've left off some.
I surf the Net for hours on end trying to find new tidbits about the shows and learn when new movies and episodes are going to air.
Somewhere along the line, I discovered fanfics.
My love for writing instantly overtook my senses and I immediately started jotting down ideas.
My son and his friends now think I have lost my sanity… |
