Artist's Commentary
I'm glad I went through to trouble of finally finishing this long discarded and thusly weathered pic. It took me three times as long just to simply clean the massive amount of smudging and repair the lines as it did to actually color the pic. Though overall I think it turned out worthwhile. If nothing else it help me learn to decipher a bit of my new texturing program. Namely her leopard patterned bikini bottoms. There were really no other major breakthroughs for me personally in finishing the two year old pic. At the time I did the preliminary sketch I believed that she was to be the final animesque pic I'd ever undertake doing. Though now looking back I doubt that to be true. As long as there are awesome anime characters like Ryoko, that are dynamic both in style as well as appearance, I'll come back to them sooner or later. What can I say, they're simply fun to draw... Look at her, she's positively malicious. I thank Maxim magazine for the character pose (I don't recall the month or issue number that had that particular cover shot). The simple background is a shot of one of Bora Bora's many lovely beaches, filtered with a crosshatch pattern. |
