Son

A poem by Kaliko Rosa
Based on Watase Yuu's "Ayashi no Ceres"

As I hold you here within my arms,

Sweet tiny figure, plump and warm,

With miniature hands and little feet,

With the greenest eyes to complete

The child so young and born so new,

To match such a dream, there are so few

Who possess the love that you behold,

From myself and Aya and all those young and old

We cherish you as our dearest one,

The smile that comes when the day is done,

All such happiness can only come from,

The beauty bestowed by you,

Our son.

Keep that smile right in its place,

That sweet innocence and humble grace,

With hands so strong, you will be too,

But as skin is soft and gentle, so will you,

I tell you now, the greatest thing,

Is all the joy that love can bring,

Forget that not, and think of others,

Respect all around you as if they were your brothers,

Wipe away tears and don't underestimate

Simply fill your step boldly with a lively gait,

Let truth and dignity be upon you,

And honour be with all that you do.

Strive always for the goal of the long run,

Remember, money is not ever worth losing someone,

Be orderly yet allow life to have its fun,

And you will be blessed as you are,

My son.

Your mother loves you so, as I do also so dearly,

Thus cherish her always, for it has shown so very clearly,

Your elegant mother, the empress of splendor and love,

Has adorned the two of us to be all that she cares of,

She has extended her role past that of the greatest wife,

To serve as your mother for her entire youthful life,

Her grace is eternal, and pure heart is of gold,

A genuine angel whose kindness never grows old,

Be with her as I would like to, stand by her side,

Thank her for everything she so lovingly provides,

Remind her of our love each day that is to come,

And keep mind of her heartfelt efforts in raising you,

Our son.

But now there are things that I must convey.

Know that I wish not to say it this way.

But yet my plagued heart cannot come to deny,

And it will be impossible for me to resort to a lie,

In attempt to avoid the essence of this lonely truth

To have to confess to the babe that is you.

For soon will come a time where absence takes place,

Where the tangible will come to vanish without a trace.

For you see me now as I cradle you gently,

Humming to you ever so sentimentally

But that touch will subside, the music will fade,

I'm afraid that my life is dying away…

As I kiss you lastly and sadly on your little cheek,

Stay still in your slumber, for me do not weep,

Strive always to be strong and inwardly smart,

Yet be focused to always be wisest at heart.

Be sad not, for soon after it shall not be this way,

For we will walk hand-in-hand together through the heavenly gates.

And until then know I'm with you in all that you do,

Guiding and inspiring and seeing you through,

From kid to kinder, junior to grad,

As your future progresses,

I'll still be your dad.

I promise to help you when you speak with me,

In your heart, in your thoughts, you can always believe

You will always have a father who cares for you so,

In soul and at heart, much more than you can know,

My dearest

most wonderful

and precious son,

I shall love you always until kingdom come.
