“So you and Dranzer are partners?” Max asked Kai.
Kai nodded.
“Well,” Kai then said, “I'm going back to sleep.”
“You do that,” Rei said as Kai lay back down.
Dranzer settled herself right by Kai's arms and they fell asleep.

When Kai woke up, he felt a hand on his arm.
He saw up and saw Rei sitting next to him.
“You're awake,” Rei commented.
`Hn.”
“'Bout time,” Max teased, “It's noon.”
“Really?”
“Yup?”
“Damn.”
Kai stood up and said, “Lets go.
“Hold it,” Rei said,.
“What?”
“Firs,” Rei said, “You need to eat. Second, how's your wing?”
“Fine.”
Kai moved it with ease.
Rei smiled and handed Kai a piece of bread.
“Eat and then we will leave.”

They were back on the trail.
“Where are we going?” Max asked Kai.
“To stop the wars.”
“I know that, but where?”
“Don't know.”
Max didn't ask anything else so Kai wouldn't get mad.
Then, a loud roar came from the trees.
“What was that?” Max gasped.
“I'll see,” Kai said.
He flapped his wings and flew to the top of a tree in front of him.
Rei silently marveled at Kai while he looked around.
“It was a dragon,” Kai said quietly.

“You're trespassing on Dragon territory,” a young blue haired boy snapped.
Kai jumped down from the tree.
“What does it matter?” he asked.
“The treaty with the neko-jin stated that no one could come to this island.”
Rei stood behind Kai, if this boy saw him, his village was so screwed.
“Who's behind you?” the boy asked Kai in interest.
“Rei.”
“Oh,” the boy said, “Well, you need to leave this forest.”
Kai nodded.
“I'll show you the way out if you want.”
“Fine,” Kai snarled.
“Come on,” the boy said, “And why is your friend so shy?”
Kai turned back to Rei.
“What's wrong?”
The boy got a good look at Rei.
`You're a neko-jin!” he exclaimed, “Neko-jin are not allowed in the forest!”
Rei paled.
“I know.”
“We have the right to kill any neko-jin in the forest.”
Rei was shaking.
“Dragoon!” the boy yelled.
Kai had silently been watching until a huge dragon came up. Dranzer then flew to his arm and he said, “Attack.”
Dranzer flew up into the air and opened her beak. As soon as that happened, fire attacked the dragon.
“Dragoon!” the boy screamed, “Attack them!”
“Dranzer!” Kai yelled.
The dragon and the phoenix attacked each other in anger, each defending their friends.
Rei was shocked, Kai was sticking up for him. Why?
“No,” Rei whispered.
“What?” Max asked.
“This shouldn't be happening,” Rei gasped, “They shouldn't be fighting.”
Max nodded.
“I agree.”

“Leave him alone,” Kai snarled.
The boy nodded in defeat.
“He may pass through.”
“Thank you,” Rei said, “I'm Rei Kon, that's Kai Hiwatari and his Phoenix friend Dranzer and over there is Max Tate.”
“I'm Tyson Granger.”
“Nice to meet you,” Rei said kindly.
Tyson nodded, the scales on his face and arms gleaming in the sun.
“Lets go,” Tyson said, “I need to get you out of here before some one notices.”

They made it to the edge of the forest.
“Tyson.”
“Max.”
“Do you want to come with us?”
Kai choked on the water he was drinking.
“What/” he cried out.
“Can he come?” Max asked Kai.
“Please,” Rei added.
“Fine!” Kai snarled, “Bu he better not slow us down.”
“So how bout it?” Max asked Tyson, “You wanna come?”
“Sure!”
They continued with a new friend and his dragon that could change sizes.
