“What?” Kai asked.

“I met someone!” Rei said coming out of the trees with a young blonde.

“Who're you/” Kai asked.

“Max Tate!”

Kai saw that this boy was completely human.

“How did you get here?”

“I walked.”

“Can he come with us?”

Kai nodded.

“So you're a fallen angel?” Max asked in interest.

`Yes.”

“What's it like?”

Rei sensed that Kai didn't want to talk about it and started another conversation.

“Where're you from Max?” he asked.

“America!”

Max seemed really happy about this fact and Rei chuckled.

“What?” Max asked.

“Nothing.”

They had started traveling again and Kai started slumping.

“Are you okay?” Max asked.

Kai nodded.

“What happened?”

“I got slashed. It just won't heal.”

“I can give you a healing goo.”

Kai snorted.

“Goo?”

“Yeah, we'll just have to stop so I can get the ingredients.”

“We are not-“

“Going to keep going,” Rei snarled, “Max, you can find the stuff you need.”

“You are not touching me!” Kai snarled at Max.

Max was slightly taken aback. Kai was being so rude!

`But you're hurt!” Max protested, “If I can help, you would feel better.”

“No. I don't trust you.”

`Why?”

`Because.”

“Then let me.”

Rei speaking up was so surprising that Kai's mouth gaped open.

“What?” he gasped.

“Let me,” Rei repeated, “You know I won't hut you.”

He looked at Kai and smiled.

“You can trust me.”

Kai nodded.

“Fine.”

Max watched Rei and Kai in amusement. Rei would try to put some go on Kai's wing, but then Kai would move it.

Max laughed slightly and Kai stopped moving.

“What?”

Rei took that moment as the moment to grab Kai.

“Gotchya.”

Max then couldn't hold it in, he was rolling on the ground with laughter.

“Finally,” Kai heard Rei mutter under his breath.

Well, Kai thought, I wasn't going to make it easy for him.

He felt Rei rub the goo into his wings and felt his fingers gently finger the slash.

Kai's wing was completely numb after the goo soaked in.

`It's numb,” Kai said quietly.

“That happens,” Max explained, “But in the morning, you'll be as good as new.”

“So we sleep here,” Rei said.

“Are you okay?” Rei asked Kai.

Kai nodded.

“Just trying to sleep.”

“Oh. Good night then.”

Kai rolled over onto his right side. For lack of anything better to do, Rei started rubbing his left side. Then he realized that Kai was till awake and stopped.

“Please don't stop.”

Rei was so shocked, but he did as he as asked.

Soon, Kai was asleep.

Rei and Max took turns keeping watch, letting Kai heal.

So they were up and down, sleeping and staying awake.

Then they heard a bird's noise and Kai woke up.

“Dranzer?”

“Who?” Max asked.

“His Phoenix friend,” Rei explained, “I chased her away once.”

Max gave Rei a strange look but didn't say anything.

A huge, red bird came out of the trees and landed on Kai's outstretched arm.

“Dranzer.”
