IX: The Endless Battle:
Spike wasn't one to back down from a fight. There was nothing
ordinary about this fight. Still, he would not back down. It didn't
help that he couldn't see his opponent. Well, that observation was
a little too strong. The cowboy could make out a faint outline at
times. How was he trying to trap someone that he couldn't
catch?
Spike had his instinct to rely on. So far, he had been able to keep
up. This was nothing but child's play after all. Still, he couldn't
keep this up for long. Spike needed a way to end this fight fast.
Time to get creative.
He wasn't one for thinking during a fight. That was Jet's area.
Spike was more of an action guy. Same with this unseen foe.
However, the moves seemed all too familiar. This dawned on the
cowboy halfway through the fight. He could use this to his
advantage.
“Have we met before?” Spike asked as he dodged another swipe with
the creature's claws. He whirled around and knocked him hard on the
back. Spike made contact with cloth. He caught a loud grunt. Ah, he
had the upper hand here.
“But really, have we met before?” Spike asked. He kneed his
opponent in the stomach. Finally, he had some ground in this fight.
They had done this before. The more they fought, the more he could
predict what was coming next. If that was the case, why was this
fight still going on? He didn't have time for this.
Spike needed a way to end this fight.
“Come on now,” he said. “Do we really have to do this? You know how
this is going to end, right?” He didn't get an answer. The
invisible opponent ran forward and tackled the cowboy to the
ground. They crashed to the ground. Still, Spike wasn't going to
give up. Neither was the invisible force. It would take something
on the outside to make it stop.
That might happen sooner than he thought.
Spike was about to make the next move when everything froze. The
cowboy's eyes moved around in what looked like a darkened void.
This also felt familiar. He already knew what was coming next.
Heh, are you coming to give me a hand? Were you getting
bored with the fight too? He could make out a dull
droning noise near his ear. Alright. How do you plan to get out
of this? Spike closed his eyes and took a listen. He had
no idea why he was doing this. What was even the point? Oh yes.
Her.
He closed his eyes and gave off a dry laugh. Fine, do whatever.
I was getting bored anyway.
And just like that, time fell back into place. Spike jumped forward
and pushed his opponent to the ground. It looked like he was
wrestling with himself. However, this fight wasn't going to last
long. He would get out of this and move on to find Sakura and their
guide.
For now, this fight was going to keep going.
Meanwhile…
