"Memories" ~ Chapter 1

A young teenage girl, with long chocolate hair, sits in her room, sitting at her
desk and writing on a piece of paper; her bright ruby eyes deeply focused on the text.
The door then opened and in walked a tall lanky teenage boy; his dark green hair
looked as if he just rolled out of bed.
"Hold on Spike, I'm almost done."
Raven hushed him before her could ask what she was doing. Giving a shrug, Spike
walked over the bed and lay down, putting his arms up and crossing a leg over the
other. Raven then put her pen down and turned around.
"What do you want?"
"I want to know what you were doing that was so important."
Raven sighed and held up the paper for Spike to see.
"It's a application form for a job at this beatnik coffee shop."
"What? You mean you're going to leave me all alone during summer? I think
I'm going to cry."
Spike whined, making puppy dog eyes at Raven.
"Suck it up, Spike. You can come to work with me if you cannot bare to not be
at my side."
"Nah, I'll pass. I'll just be a regular customer."
Spike swung his legs over the side of the bed and sat up. Raven then folded up the
paper and put it in her back jean pocket.
"Let's go do something. I'm so bored here."
"Like where, Ms. Career Girl?"
Both stood up and walked out of the room.
"I don't know… maybe the coffee shop? I have to drop off the application if I
want to get hired."
"Alright."

**One week later… About 6:30 pm…**

"Spike! Spike!"
Raven ran up to Spike's house and banged on the door.
"You there, Spike? It's Raven!"
No answered came. Really wanting to tell Spike her good news, Raven lifted the
welcome mat on the porch and took the key from under it. She unlocked the door and
placed the key back under the mat. As she stepped inside, she heard laughter from
upstairs. Raven, knowing Spike's laugh anywhere, hurried up the flight of stairs.
Turing down the hallway towards Spike's room, it sounded more like her was talking
to someone. Raven then reached the door and slowly pushed it open. Spike was lying
on his bed, taking on the phone.
"Bye. I love you too."
He hung up the phone and sat up.
"That better not have been Sarah."
Giving a scowl, Raven crossed her arms and walked over. Spike jumped at the sudden appearance of
Raven. He put on a nervous smile and stood up.
"Nah! I told you I broke up with her."
Spike gave Raven a charismatic smile. This didn't fool Raven. She pulled back her
hand and slapped Spike hard across the face.
"Don't lie to me! Do you think I'm stupid?"
"No, of course not! But- she said she'd changed."
Spike protested, rubbing his cheek.
"Don't be so gullible! You're too good for her!"
"What do you care? It's my life!"
"I care because you're my friend! And I don't want to see you with a girl
who'll follow anything with a wallet!"
The two argued back and forth until Spike's mother came in.
"Spike. Come with me. Raven, it's time to go home."
"Yes, Mrs. Spiegel."
Raven quickly left the room and dashed down the stairs. As she walked home, Raven
grumbled angrily to herself.
"That jerk! Why should he chase after a girl who won't even give him the time
of day? The idiot!"
Raven thought angrily to herself. When she reached her house, Raven heard the phone ringing inside. She hurried in
and picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"It's Spike."
"What do you want?"
Raven asked angrily.
"I can't explain right now. Meet me in the alley halfway between our houses."
"But Spike-"
"Just come now! Please!"
"Alright- ok, I'll come."
The connection clicked off and Raven put the phone back on the hook.
"I wonder what's wrong."

**20 minutes later…**

Spike stood in the alley halfway between his and Raven's house, waiting for
Raven to show up. Just as he was about to turn and leave, he heard footsteps running
towards him. He looked up and was relieved to see Raven.
"Spike, what's wrong?"
Raven hurried up to Spike and gave a concerned looked in her eyes. Raven looked
down and saw Spike was carrying a case and wearing his gray trench coat, he seemed
as though he were going on a trip or something.
"What's that for and why are you wearing your coat?"
Spike looked down at Raven. For the first time he noticed how her eyes shone in the
light. Spike felt his throat tighten and he had to look away from Raven's face.
"I'm leaving."
He managed to say.
"What?"
Raven looked up at him in disbelief.
"My mom said I'm going to live with someone else. She says I'm never
coming back."
Spike looked at Raven, he saw her eyes filling with tears.
"Raven. Please don't cry."
Spike put a hand on her shoulder. Raven then burst into tears, wrapping her arms
around Spike's waist and holding his tight.
"No! I won't let you!"
"Raven. Don't make this harder."
"How can it be harder? I'm saying goodbye for good to my best friend!"
Raven sobbed into Spike's coat.
"Raven."
Spike put his arms around her in comfort.
"Please don't' go, Spike."
Raven looked up at him, her eyes glassy with tears. Just then a black limousine pulled
up at the end of the alley. Two men got out and came towards Spike and Raven.
"I have to go now."
"No!"
Raven clung tightly to Spike, not wanting to let go. The men came up and tried
pulling Raven away from Spike. When they finally succeeded, Raven stretched out
her arm in effort. Spike held out a hand as one of the men started to lead him away.
"Goodbye Raven."
"Spike…"
Raven whispered, slowly falling to her knees, watching Spike being led away by the
two men towards the limousine. Raven then quickly got up and ran after them.
"Spike!"
She yelled out. The car doors shut and the limousine started to drive off down the
street. A faint silhouette against the back window, showed Spike looked out. Raven
tried to catch up, but tripped in a pothole and fell to the ground. When she looked up,
the car turned a corner and disappeared.
"Spike…"
Raven brought her fist down hard on the pavement in anger and sadness.
"Come back… oh God, please come back…"
She pleaded in vain.
"Please…"
