Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ hollow ❯ walking home ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
"Makino, Ruki. Straight -A student attending an all girl's private school,
no extra-curricular activities, there's some notes here…looks like she has
a temper. She's gotten in over forty-five fist-fights this semester alone,
not just with other students but some students from other campuses, hasn't
been suspended…seems like her mom is a huge donor to the school…why do you
want to know?" Jenrya was at his computer in his room. He had gotten on
when there was still some daylight out and hadn't bothered to turn on the
lights when it got dark. The computer's glow on Jenrya's face had a creepy
effect on the man at his doorway.

"No real reason…" Ryo trailed off.
"Ryo, when'd you become a pedophile?" Jenrya joked, still skimming through
Ruki's records.
"Pull up a picture, you'll see why." Ryo replied.
"But sixteen? She's still in high school." Jenrya sighed, "I don't think
it's such a good idea."
"It's not like that, completely anyway. I just wanted to know if she had a
history of fighting. I met her awhile back and she was pretty good then."
"That's why the great Ryo graced us with his presence." Jenrya said
coolly. "Should have seen this coming. Aren't you taking this fighting
thing too far? There can't be that much money in it."
"You'd be surprised. This is a pretty violent town." Ryo said, leaving.

"Just hope you know what you're doing." Jenrya murmered, his
computer-monitor flickering.

"Suck-ass school…" Ruki muttered slipping on headphones.
Suck-ass world for that matter.
Ruki turned the volume up to max.

The school psychologist had requested a "visit", and the rest of the day
had gone downhill from there. After an hour of that bull shit the shrink
traced her anger and volatile nature back to her parents' divorce. That
wasn't the fucking answer. Fighting was just fighting, not an "escapist
medium". There was just the rush of adrenaline and living on the edge,
then the feel of smacking whatever faggot who had gotten in her way all into the wall.

"Escapist medium my ass…"

"Still the same I see." A voice came from behind the shoulder length fence
to her right.

"What the hell do you want?" She tilted her head, the sunglasses adorning
her face slipping down her nose far enough so the asshole wasn't a shade
of purple.

As his features came into focus she gasped. "You're…"

"You remembered me?" Ryo smiled, there was an annoying smugness to it.
"I'm honored."

"What do you want?" She asked, irritated and showing it. She grabbed the
left ear piece and pulled the headphones down to her neck.

"I have a business proposal to offer you. Are you interested?"

"What is it?"

"Nothing too bad. You just fight whoever we send you up against. You beat
them you get prize money, you lose you get a smaller amount." He was still
smiling, a little less pompously, still polite though, amazingly.

"No-" She started. What a jackass, to come up to her out of nowhere and
ask her that. And he was expecting yes, that stupid smile said it all.
She'd say no just to wipe that smirk off his face and then walk away.
To home. Where her mom would be waiting. The shrink would've called and
her mom would be there, waiting. Ruki knew what she'd say, her mom had
said the same thing the past fifty times the school called. "Ruki, it's so
unladylike, you shouldn't hurt people like that. Fighting is bad, you
shouldn't do it." or some shit like that.

"Yeah, sure, why the hell not?" Ruki said, pulling the headphones up from
her neck.

"Good to hear." She would have put up with that stupid grin he was
sporting. He stepped back from the fence he was leaning on.

"Hey wait, is that it? I just say yes and it's set?" She protested.

"No, of course not. There's a couple of things that have to be sorted out
first, but you looked like you were had to be somewhere."

God she hated that polite tone in his voice.

"Well I don't, so let's get this over with." She placed a hand on the top
of the metal bar that held the wired fence up and jumped.

Ryo watched.

"Follow me."

"Whoa, when'd Ryo come back?"

Some kid in a blue hoodie was sipping coke through a straw. A couple of
other guys were hanging around the old warehouse when they came in.

"Hey Takato, I'd like you to meet Ruki. She'll be fighting for us." Ryo
shut the sliding door while indicating to Ruki.

"Hi."

Ruki stared, then rolled her eyes. This guy looked too scrawny to be doing
any street fighting. A fourth grader could probably mow him down.

"Don't tell me this cream puff fights too." Ruki said. The guy gave a weak
smile and a weaker laugh.

"You'd be surprised Ruki. He's not as strong as you or Jenrya but he can
put up a fight." Ryo said, walking smoothly towards her.

"I'll believe that when I see it." She said.

"That's a little harsh Ruki." Ryo said, half apologizing to Takato.

"The truth hurts. The baby will just have to get over it." She turned to
Ryo as he stopped beside her, "Who's Jenrya?"

"He organizes all of this and keeps the books. Fights a little on the
side." Ryo said, gazing around.

Ruki looked around too. The place had all sorts of equipment, built-in
shelves housing most of it. Someone's motorcycle was parked by the door
and a punching bag was swinging gently over by some doors that looked like
the entrance to a bathroom. Couch pillows and beanbag chairs were slung
around a TV. A fridge was next to a sink and a microwave.

"Do you guys live here?" Ruki asked.

"Yeah. Well, I crash here whenever I'm in town, but the others do though."
Ryo answered.

"So those stairs…"

"Lead up to some bedrooms, if you can call them that." Ryo said, walking
over to the couch and sat down.

"So now what?" Ruki asked, crossing her arms.

"I tell you what you're gonna do and then we can go from there."

Disclaimer: I don't own it. I'm not making money off it. So there.
I took this story off awhile ago, this is a re-post. I've been out of the
fanfic scene for awhile now, I need to go catch up on some fics.

I'm back again. I've tried to edit as much of this as I could, a few grammatical
errors were cleared up, but nothing effecting the storyline. Now, on to the Long
Boring Explanation of Things to Come...
