Chapter 1: Parole

20 Hours before

Adrian Carter slept in his cell. Trying to get over his constant nightmares that plagued him even during the day. But he was glad to be sleeping. Since he stayed up till midnight the day before. Now it felt like heaven to sleep now.

When Adrian felt like he couldn’t take any more sleeping he looked up. His jailer was standing at his door fidgeting with keys. “Carter. Go down to see the Warden. He wants to talk to you:” Adrian was surprised. In all his year of imprisonment he never saw the Warden. He just heard he was someone who never liked prisoners and kept to his office. Adrian had seen his office before and knew where it was. “Fine” he mumbled as he walked through his cell door.

It felt good to stretch his legs. He began to walk down the hallway towards the stairs. The stairs spiraled upwards. It was common knowledge that the Warden had his office near the roof. Adrian eventually made it up the spiral staircase all the way in front of the room. Before he even touched the silver door handle a voice from inside said “Enter”. Adrian turned the door handle slowly and opened the door.

There was a small desk inside the room. There was a window behind the desk. On the walls what were simple grey there were diploma’s and pictures. A grey haired man sat at the desk. It was the Warden

Adrian sat in a chair opposite the desk. The warden looked up from a paper he was writing. “Ah Mr.Carter” He took out a beige folder. It had his name written on it. Adrian opened the folder slowly. It had records of the shooting, his trail where he was tried as an adult and sentenced to prison. “Nasty stuff. I can tell you hate it”. Adrian closed the folder. He threw it back at him. “What’s this all about? I didn’t know you knew I existed” He said while fidgeting in his seat. The Warden looked at him. “I didn’t. At least not until a few hours ago. But you have been” The warden took out a letter. From what Adrian could see it had his name on it. But all the other text was very difficult to read upside down. “… Formally discharged. Apparently you are to be put out on parole and sent to a place known as.” The warden took out another letter. This one bearing a strange logo on it. “… Ragdon Research site. Apparently they are concocting experiments and you seem to be the perfect test subject.” Adrian was surprised. He thought his parents had done something. They never did anything when he was being tried as an adult. “So I guess i’m not in jail anymore?” The warden nodded. “Apparently when they are finished you will be discharged.” The warden pointed towards his door. “Go. There is some sort of transportation for you.” Adrian got up and walked out of the door
