Chapter 7

Ophanimon's Order

"You, Alice, are the Dark Maiden of Light."

"…Translation, please."

"Take a look at this."

A new hologram appeared. This time it was some kind of ancient stone tablet. It said this:

The day will come
When evils both ancient and present
Will rise stronger than ever
And the blinded angels will arise
To do what they think is right
The way to the lost world will be found
The Dark Maiden of Light will follow it
To her power and her destiny
She will be cast in the Eternal Darkness
But will return and defeat the angels
And unwillingly free the Defeated Ones
This shall be the first sign
The return of Chaos will be the second
And the gathering of the Chosen Ones
Shall be the third and final sign
That the war of the Past and Future has began

"This prophecy calls you the Dark Maiden of Light, as you can see."

"What makes you think it speaks about me?"

"The reason is the lines about the way to the lost world and the Dark Maiden following it to her power and destiny. Think about it and you'll see what I mean."

"Alright, let's say it is about me. I guess that means the blinded angels are Ophanimon and her servants and I'm supposed to defeat them. But what about the rest? The evils, the Eternal Darkness, the Defeated Ones and especially the last lines about the war of the Past and Future? What do they mean?"

"There are simply too many evil digimon from both the past and the present to tell which ones are the digimon referred to in the prophecy. We have our suspicions about the next two things you asked about, but when it comes to prophecies guesses and suspicions aren't good enough. For example, the Eternal Darkness is mentioned in more than one prophecy, but we believe it does not mean the same thing in all of them. As for the last lines, we believe they have a connection to another prophecy, called "Past and Future". It too speaks of the war of Past and Future. That prophecy however speaks about events that will take place after the events in another prophecy, which speaks of the Return of Chaos. Until that prophecy has come to pass we have nothing to worry about."

"This one too mentions the return of chaos."

"Yes, it does. But that is not important right now. At least not until we have dealt with the current problem."

"And just who or what is the current problem?"

"Ophanimon. Or Queen Ophanimon, as she calls herself. She is obsessed with the idea to stop the war in our world. And she intends to do it by gathering all Zeons with any means necessary."

Alice remembered that the Zeons of dreams had told her the same thing.

"I see. And what is the problem?"

"The problem is having all Zeons will make her too powerful. She will be nearly invincible. Dellia, if she was alive, would be the only one powerful enough to challenge her, and only because she is resistant to the effects of the Zeons. Having absolute power is too tempting. It could easily turn anyone into an undisputed tyrant. She believes she can resist the temptation, but so did Lucemon. He managed to find five types of Zeons. He had a total of eight Zeons. When he got the last one, he decided he is ready and went to the West sector to end the war between human and beast digimon. And he did too. But then he became the ruler and after a short period of time he turned into a tyrant. It took a large number of powerful Mega digimon to stop him. We used our power to bring the Zeons back into our world. But that is not the point. What I just told you should be enough for you to understand how dangerous it is if one person has too many Zeons. Now imagine what could happen if Ophanimon got ALL. She is a powerful Mega. Her own power combined with that of the Zeons…"

"Yes, I understand. And you want me to stop her. But why me?"

"Why? Because you did what was predicted by the prophecy. That means you are the Chosen One for this task."

"Why would I of all people be mentioned in a prophecy? I'm just a girl. At least I was before coming here."

"That's the same as asking why is the water wet? It's just the way it is. Certain people and digimon are mentioned in the Prophecies. Why them no one knows. We don't know if there is a special reason or if they are chosen at random, but either way they have been chosen. And they can't refuse to accept their destiny or it might be the end of all. That's the way it is, like it or not."

"I don't like it at all, but it seems I have no choice. It has been made for me. Very well. Tell me about Ophanimon."

"First we have something for you." Told her Jennai.

"And what might that be?"

"You'll see soon enough." He looked up at the digi gnomes above them. Four if them flew over to Alice and started circling above her. After the first few circles a glowing white ball of light appeared in the air in front of the girl and took the form of a regular D-ark. Alice reached forth and took it in her hand. After a short examination she asked: "You couldn't modify it a little, could you?"

"Modify it? In what way?"

The girl explained about the D-ark she had created in her dreams and described it with as many details as possible. When she finished, Jennai just nodded and made a sign to the gnomes to go to him. They did as signaled and he told them a few things in a quiet tone. Then they returned to Alice and made a circle around her. The D-ark in her hand glowed again and changed in shape, turning into the one she had created.

"That's better. I'm glad I brought some cards with me. They might come in handy when I meet with Ophanimon."

"So you agree to stop her?"

"As if I have a choice. I have one of the Zeons and she wants them all, so sooner or later I'll have to meet her. I'd rather do it while she still hasn't gathered any Zeons. She doesn't have any… does she?"

"Not as far as we know. But she has a lot of servants on any level from Rookie to Mega. But so far she has no Golden or Crystal Armor digimon, only Armor such as Nefertimon. Not that it matters. She has more than enough servants that will guard her with their life. We are not sure about the exact number."

"Great. Anything else?"

"We know where her palace is. This is where she resides all the time unless something has forced her to leave."

"She has her own palace?"

"Yes, although it is a bit small. But it isn't her permanent, it is only until she has accomplished her task of gathering all Zeons. Once she has achieved her goal and the war is over, she'll make herself another one."

"And how many digimon are guarding it?"

"We don't know. There are several groups of searchers constantly moving from one place to another. But without ant doubt there are at least four guards there."

"And all of them on the Mega level."

"Of course. So I would advise you to find some of the searcher groups and destroy them. It will weaken her forces a little and if she calls all of her servants to her defense, you'll have less opponents to deal with."

"I see your point. Any other advice for me?"

"Just one. Keep away from data storms and the Digimon Graveyard."

"Digimon Graveyard? I thought digimon don't leave corpses."

"They don't. The reason it is called so is because almost all digimon that go in never come out. It isn't on your way, so unless something happens you won't see it at all."

"And what about data storms? Dobermon told me about data streams. The storms seem to be the same, only in different color."

"Not quite. The streams are caused by the computers in the human world in your sector. The storms are not. They are a result of the cataclysms during the World Break. They are independent from the human world. Since they first have appeared they haven't been a problem. Until recently. The neutral Zeon of teleportation took control of them. That is why they now chase after potential targets. It makes avoiding them a lot harder."

"You mentioned the human world. What about the one in this sector? Why don't you choose a few kids from there, give them digimon and send them to deal with Ophanimon?"

"Before the World Break there have been communications between this world and the human world. However after the Break happened, the war between Armor and Normal digimon began. The humans were afraid that their world might get dragged into it too. If a child got a digimon, he or she would have to choose between the two sides if he didn't want to stop his partner from digivolving. There was a potential danger that the war would go to them too, so they isolated themselves from the digital world. Digimon are not allowed to go there. If they do, they are sent back as quickly as possible. No one is allowed to have a digimon partner. It's been like that for over two decades."

"I understand. Another question. What happened to the force spheres?"

"One was destroyed, one is kept here, and three were lost. We have no idea in which world they might be. If we could find any clues, we could retrieve them. So far we have found nothing."

"So three are missing. Okay, what about the digi gnomes? What are they really?"

"They are creatures of the light. They bring the Light of Digivolution to the digimon if it is necessary. Unfortunately sometimes it costs them their lives. Alas, that is unavoidable. This is also why D-reaper tried to exterminate them. He was a creation of darkness and hates the light. We don't know who opened the portal that allowed him to enter your world, but there is such a person and we believe it was a digimon. Oh, and before you ask, the origin of the D-reaper is unknown to us. We have no power in the World of Darkness as well as few other worlds, so we know nothing about them. We suspect he came from somewhere in the Dark Ocean, but we could be wrong."

"I understand. Anything else?"

"Nothing right now. Rest for a few minutes, learn to use your Zeon on at least basic level, see the force sphere if you want so that you'd know what the others look like, and then go stop Ophanimon before it is too late."

"It sounds so easy when you say it. I just hope it won't be as hard as I think. But first I have another question. Did you try talking with Ophanimon?"

"Of course. We were hoping to persuade her to see things our way, but to no avail. She refused to give up on her quest. She will not stop until she succeeds or is killed."

"Then I'll make her stop. One way or another."

"We hoped violence can be avoided, but now we know there is no other way. Just one more thing before you go. In this world digimon can load data like in the South sector, but they don't usually do so. All digimon here grow stronger by fighting and surviving. They load data only when there's no other way to save their life. So please avoid loading the data of other digimon unless this is the only way to heal yourself."

"I understand."

"Excellent. Well, good luck, Alice. You'll need it."

With this the meeting ended.

Ophanimon and Angewomon walked out of the palace entrance and stopped after taking a few steps forward. They were next to each other holding hands. Both looked at the sky and took a deep breath of fresh air. The two had been together ever since Ophanimon had received her "present".

After Angewomon had given her "present" to Ophanimon the couple had spent the next two hours in bed. They had been…"busy", so to say. In the end they had felt awfully exhausted and had fallen asleep. Ten minutes ago Ophanimon had finally awakened followed shortly by her lover. After getting dressed they had gone out for a short walk.

The Mega opened her mouth to say something, but before a sound could come out, she felt another digimon approaching the palace at high speed. Judging by that digimon's power it was either a Champion or an Armor.

"Someone's coming. Someone in a hurry." She looked at the direction of the digimon.

"I wonder who is it? And why the hurry?" Asked Angewomon.

"As far as I can see it is one of my Nefertimon servants. As for the second question, we'll know soon enough."

The two waited for the Armor to reach them. When she did, she bowed to her Queen and spoke:

"My Queen!"

"What is it?"

"I found one of the Zeons. It was taken by a human girl. She…"

"I thought humans can't possess Zeons." Interrupted Angewomon.

"They can't. They turn into digimon on the Mega level when they take the Zeon."

"This one is not an exception, my Queen. Only she has an Ultimate mode - or level, I'm not quite sure - in addition to her Mega form."

"Tell me all you know."

"As you wish."

Nefertimon was flying high in the sky when she noticed a Flamedramon below looking at the entrance of a cave just ahead of him. Normally she would ignore him. At first she intended to do the same this time too. But before she could a human girl with blond hair wearing a black dress came out from the cave.

**A human? In our world? This might be interesting.** The Armor stopped and started watching the two below.

Soon Flamedramon was so angry he attacked the girl, but she swiftly dodged all attacks. In the end he was so irritated he turned in a giant fireball of sorts and crashed into the girl, resulting in a huge explosion.

**What was that girl thinking? Was she…** Nefertimon never finished her thought because the dust and smoke cleared to reveal both Flamedramon and the unknown girl still standing. **No way! She can't be alive!**

The next moment the Flamedramon turned into a Magnamon, followed by the girl who turned into LadyDevimon.

**LadyDevimon? But how? A Zeon! This is the only explanation! But why isn't she a Mega?** The Armor kept watching.

The battle raged on for a bit longer. Magnamon turned into Imperialdramon, while LadyDevimon digivolved to Lilithmon. **So she has a Mega level after all.** In the end the viral Mega emerged victorious and left. Nefertimon remained unnoticed.

"This is what happened, my Queen. I would've arrived sooner, but I had to deal with a couple of Champions first."

"What makes you so sure the girl wasn't a digimon who somehow got a human mode?" Questioned Ophanimon.

"I forgot to mention it, but Lilithmon had some kind of human backpack. Why would a digimon carry such a thing?"

"But the humans from our sector stay away from all digimon." Reminded Angewomon.

"No one said the girl is from our sector, my dear. There are four other sectors. She can be from any of them. Whether her coming here was accidental or on purpose is of no importance. Is there anything else, Nefertimon?"

"Nothing I can think of at the moment, my Queen."

"I see. Very well. Warn everyone about this "girl". Sooner or later we'll have to deal with her." **And something tells me it will be rather sooner than later.** "And I don't want any surprises."

"I will go immediately."

"Angewomon will go too. This way it will take less time. Every group you reach must send one messenger to another group. This will further speed things up. Now go."

"I'm on my way." Nefertimon left.

"Why all the hurry? Is there something that worries you?"

"As you know the Council wants me to abandon my quest to find the Zeons. This girl is their best chance to stop me."

"You think they would risk…"

"Yes, they would. Thanks to Lucemon they are too afraid to let anyone gather too many Zeons. Now go. The sooner this task is accomplished, the sooner you'll return to me."

That was all the motivation Angewomon needed. Without a word she got in the air and flew away.

Lilithmon had taken a short rest, then she had seen the force sphere and had learned to create projections at basic level. She had decided she won't need her backpack in what's coming so she left it with the Council for safekeeping (sort of). Now she was ready to go. While walking towards the exit of the place she remembered something.

**Say, can you Zeons move?**

`Of course we can. Why do you ask?'

**I was wondering why didn't you leave that cave?**

`Because the last ten times I checked the exit of the cave, it was blocked by stones and rocks.'

**When I found the cave it wasn't.**

`Yes, I noticed that when we went out. Now that I think of it, a couple of days after the last time I checked the exit there was a battle outside. I heard screaming and explosions. I guess that's when the entrance was cleared. But I hadn't check it yet when you came so I didn't know.'

**And how do you think I got in?**

`I thought you were teleported by a data storm.'

**I didn't know I could be teleported inside a cave or some other place with a roof by a data storm. But I guess with that Zeon of teleportation controlling the storms it is possible.**

`My turn. Why did you want an Ultimate mode? I've been wondering that since I heard your wish.'

**Lilithmon is a Mega. And Mega digimon are the most rare of all. So the appearance of one will not remain unnoticed. LadyDevimon is far more common, so she will attract far less attention. Besides, any digimon will consider a Mega a greater threat than an Ultimate. So a hostile Mega will most likely underestimate me at first, which will give me the upper hand, if only for a few seconds. There are times when even half a second can decide whether you're going to live or not.**

`Good point. Well, let's hope Ophanimon will fall for it too.'

Lilithmon reached the exit and went out, then flew in the direction of the nearest servants of Ophanimon. The Council had provided her with a map of part of the sector. It showed all the areas where the servants of the so-called Queen could be found. The whole territory was pretty large and in the south most end of the map was the Digimon Graveyard. Far enough from her potential targets.

While flying to her goal, her thoughts drifted away and her mind was filled with memories of her lost friend Dobermon.

A couple of months before Guilmon and Takato met, Alice was walking down the street to her home. It was shortly before nightfall. She had gone out for a short walk because she had felt bored at home. Now she was going back. Suddenly out of nowhere fog appeared right in front of her and a figure blocked her way. The creature obviously wasn't human. When she took a closer look, she recognized it to be a Vilemon. It saw the girl and attacked her without hesitation. Alice was barely able to dodge the first attack and started running away. Or would have if another digital field hadn't appeared on her way after the first three steps. Another creature emerged from the fog. This one looked very much like a Doberman.

"Grau Realm!"

Alice closed her eyes and prepared for the end. When it didn't come she hesitantly opened her eyes and dared to take a look around. There was no sign from Vilemon. The dog digimon was looking at her.

"Are you okay?"

"Uh… Yes, I think so. Thanks for the help."

This had been the beginning of their friendship. For the first time in years Alice didn't feel alone. She kept Dobermon a secret because she wasn't sure what the reaction of her family would be. The two had spent a lot of time together and she had learned a lot about the digital world. Then, one day, when everything looked just fine, no trouble at all, Yamaki's plan to eliminate all digimon was put into action and like a lightning from a clear sky Dobermon was deleted in front of her eyes.

Alice remembered all this as if it had all happened yesterday. But now was no time for memories. She could feel a group of digimon up ahead. While she had been lost in the memories from the past she had nearly reached her first targets. She switched to Ultimate mode and prepared for battle.

**And so it begins.**
