Cry to Valhalla
By The Fan Fiction Nymph
Chi-Chi sat at Gohan's desk, holding a picture of him with his father.
Her warm black eyes were clouded with tears that threatened as a trembling finger traced over Goku's smile. She smiled faintly, lost to his goofy grin.
It was only hours ago that she learned she would not be seeing it again.
Her hand faltered and steadied, as she crushed the need to cry uncontrollably.
“Goku…”his name escaped her lips, peering the dark void of the room.
The picture fell from Chi-chi's hands.
Tears streaming freely she covered her face with her hands. “Goku…” she wept, and fled the room for fear she may wake her sleeping son.
Once outside in the loneliness of the night she allowed herself to despair, and fell to her knees crying tears that Goku would not whip away. Tears that would go unheard, never to reach his ears in Valhalla. Tears still streaming steadily down her porceline face, Chi-Chi faced up towards heaven in an attempt to be heard and in return receive an answer to the questions that bothered her soul.
“Goku, why aren't you going to come back to me?” she paused waiting.
“Have I done something wrong? Is it my fault you don't want to come back?
-Answer me!” her voice echoed through the darkness, yet no reply was given.
As the gravity of her loss overcame her she fell back down to the earth, crying out for he who would not come.
Goku would never come back to her, or Gohan. He would never meet his yet unborn son. Never see them grow up into men, never know what became of them.
And Chi-Chi would be left to wonder if it was her who drove him away, wonder if it were her fault, wonder if he ever loved her like she had loved him. She would spend the rest of her life, questioning and never receive peace until she died.
It became clear to her in the eternity of her tears, she would only know peace in death for life there would be no peace for her to have. It occurred to her that she could end it now, end the pain and suffering she felt now and would carry with her the rest of her life.
But if her life was only this last night, surly then the pain was not so much to bear? If this were her last night, would everything really be alright?
No, Gohan. Gohan would never understand and the last thing he needed would be to loose his mother too.
“I will live…for Gohan, because I love him.” Chi-Chi whispered to the night.
“You do things like that for people you love. I'm only sorry that I did not see you did not love me sooner, Goku. Because I love you and it hurts to have thought you did all this time, but you didn't did you?” she waited for a response. Only silence. Only still. Only the darkness of the night.
“No, it was just me - a little girl - who fell in love with you and you were ever a little boy, too in love with life to waste your love on a single person.
But I will never stop loving you, and I will never regret that I love you.
Fair well brave warrior, may a thousand songs be sung about your death and countless more about your deeds in life. Perhaps someday the rest of the world will be as enlightened as you and fall in love with life.”
Chi-Chi bowed her head and stood up crying a few remaining tears. With the sun rising behind her she cried tears they heard in Valhalla.
