Chapter 2: oddball

"Miss Rayne, your seat is in front of Chad's." Professor Waters
pointed to the only empty desk in the front row which was exactly in
the middle of the room. Alicia nodded and walked over to her desk. She
kept her eyes down, choosing to look at the polished wood but as she
reached her place, something made her look up. All the boys in class
were staring at her except for the dark haired boy sitting right at
the back of the room. He had an angry look upon his face and as she
watched him, he turned and met her gaze. It took all her self-control
not to scream as the boy had no iris. She quickly turned away and sat
down rather hard but unfortunately she missed the chair entirely.
"Ahhh!" she screamed as she landed on the ground. The contents of her
bag spilled out and Alicia scrambled on her knees trying to retrieve
her books and pencils. "Damn, I just had to make a fool of myself on
the first day. I am such an idiot!" she mentally scolded herself,
stuffing everything into her bag. A hand reached out and Alicia heard
a voice say "Let me help with that." Before she could even reply, a
boy got on his knees beside her and begin gathering her things for
her. "Thank you." The boy looked up and grinned "No problem." He had
brown hair which was grown in a shaggy hairstyle and dark green eyes.
He had a sort of fox like expression on his face. He extended his hand
to her as if it were some casual meeting instead of being in the
middle of a lesson and said "Chad Martell, nice to meet you." "Alicia
Rayne" she replied automatically "I know." "Are you alright Miss
Rayne?" Alicia jumped at the sound of Professor Waters voice. "Can we
get back to our lesson now?" "Yes Professor." She muttered, blushing a
brilliant shade of red. She expected the class to laugh at her but
there was only silence. She didn't know which was better, laughter or
silence. Thankfully, the lesson went smoothly with no more accidents.

Kevin looked up at her again. She had her head down and she seemed
absorbed in her writing. From where he was sitting, he could only see
her back. He noticed how her fringe keep falling and how she always
brushed it back and tucked it behind her ear to only have it come
loose minutes later. "She's hot." He thought to himself. He stretched
and it was then he realised that everyone else in class was stealing
glances at her. He frowned. "This is not good, Kevin O'rion doesn't
like sharing. And Kevin O'rion always gets what he wants and he wants
her." he smirked. "After all, I'm handsome and rich, what more could a
girl want?"

Eden glanced to his left, he saw the spiky haired boy frown and mumble
to himself and then suddenly smile. Eden shook his head "Guy's getting
worse everyday."

~~~~~~~
From the corner of his eye, he could see her listening attentively and
writing down every word that Professor Waters said without even taking
her eyes off him. She had a serious expression on her face her mouth
was slightly open. Her mouth? What on earth was he looking at her
mouth? "Mr Barenz, is there a problem? You look rather flushed." "Huh?
No Sir, nothing at all." He saw her turn to look at him causing him to
blush even more. Washington kept his head down for the rest of the
lesson.
Ulric was getting irritated. Kevin was making weird noises besides him
and Tyler in front of him had gone into one of his meditation trances
and was swaying from left to right. "Next, they're gonna send a monkey
to join our class and we can start a new course on how to act in freak
show." He thought angrily to himself. "What's with the head master?
Allowing a girl, a girl who has no knowledge on engineering to enter
Tech U, the best engineering school in the country! She must have
transferred from COBA*." At the mention of the school, a look of pain
flickered across his face. Ulric checked his watch, only five minutes
more to go before the lesson ended. He waited impatiently for the time
to pass.
"Alright class, that's all for today. Read up on the next chapter,
there may be a surprise quiz. Dismiss." Alicia packed her books
slowly, wanting to be the last to leave the room. She then realised
that she was missing a pen. "I must have dropped it when I fell off
the chair." She looked around her. The pen was nowhere in sight.
Alicia sighed and shook her head in defeat "Oh well, it's just a pen
anyway." She got up and walked to the door. "Ahhhhh!" she screamed as
she slipped and fell forward. She closed her eyes, anticipating the
feel of the ground colliding against her face but there was none. She
felt as if she was suspended in mid fall. Cautiously, she opened one
eye and looked into a pair of ice blue eyes. They were of such a light
blue that they seemed almost white. Alicia glanced down and realised
why she hadn't fallen; he was holding her by her arms. He pulled her
up effortlessly and released her. "Th, thanks." She said but the boy
showed no change in his expression, he just turned and walked away
leaving Alicia standing there watching his retreating back. "Gosh,
he's scary." She said aloud to the empty room.
