The Kittypets
Chapter 1

Cheetahfur stumbled as he saw the long way they had to travel. The clans safety depended on their return, yet all the cats felt close to him as if he knew what they would say.
“Rainpaw it is time we tried to scent for any cats even kittypets.” he mewed searching the posts and fences.
“Why do we need the help of a kittypet.” snapped Swiftclaw running in front of the golden tabby tom. “I drawl the line at a kittypet.” he added baring his teeth. Cheetahfur nodded then jumped onto a fence, his tail shortly disappeared.
“What should we do now.” murmured Fawnheart hopelessly. He stumbled to keep his balance on the piece of ply wood. “Hello is someone there?” asked a small black tom.
“Hello I’m Cheetahfur” meowed Cheetahfur jumping off the fence to greet the tom. “My name is Mike.” purred the tom. “What do you want Cheetahfur?” asked Mike.
“We need help to find something that’s all, Mike.” mewed Cheetahfur staring deep into the eyes of the kittypet. He nodded. “I understand Cheetahfur, what is it you need help with to find?” asked the tom. He couldn’t help but smile at the black tom’s curiosity.
“I need help to find a large river and island.” mewed Cheetahfur. The black tom flinched.
“You don’t have a collar, are you a rogue, or a wildcat.” hissed Mike. “You could say I live in the wild. But I will not hurt you. I promise.” meowed Cheetahfur. “We live on the island so we need your help.” he determinedly meowed.
The black tom blinked with confusion. “I know a cat who just happened to know of the way there.” purred Mike.
Cheetahfur nodded then got onto the fence once more. “Rainpaw, Swiftclaw, Hawkfur, Fawnheart, Ravenheart, Amberpaw, Tigerpaw come on.” he yowled prickling his ears for replies.
“What do you think we left you.” purred Fawnheart jumping on top of the fence. “Well we wouldn’t have done that for you would have never fitted in here.” meowed Ravenheart following her.
“Mike come here meet my friends.” yowled Cheetahfur. The small black tom stared blackly at the other cats. Rainpaw leaped onto the fence. Tigerpaw, Hawkfur, Amberpaw, and Swiftclaw followed. “What did I tell you, no help from kittypets.” growled Swiftclaw. “Ignore him.” spat Hawkfur glaring calmly at the kittypet.
“Don’t worry Mike, he’s just a furball.” laughed Rainpaw jumping to the ground beside the black kittypet.
He nodded. Swiftclaw is only tuff on the outside for the shortage of hair makes almost everyone mad at him.” growled Cheetahfur letting out short laugh.
Swiftclaw snorted then padded off the fence to sit beside Rainpaw, the other cats followed him. “Why you are one of my best friends Swiftclaw.” teased Hawkfur still laughing.
“Keep it up and you won’t even have any fur left.” spat Swiftclaw. The dark gray tom glared hastily at Mike. “I certainly need no help from any type of kittypet.” snarled Swiftclaw.
“Kittypet?” mewed Mike confused.
“He means a housecat Mike so just ignore him, he knows nothing but acts like he knows everything.” growled Cheetahfur glaring hostily at Swiftclaw.
“I know Sniper. He can lead you to the forest and the river as well. “We all know where the river ends.” snarled Hawkfur glaring at the tinted sun. “We must hurry Mike or trouble will come.” growled Fawnheart.
Mike nodded.
“I will be happy to guide you to Sniper but you must learn that he is very testy and may ignore your request.” hissed the black kittypet arching his back.
“Who is this Sniper cat?” glared Hawkfur pressing against Fawnheart. “He is a kittypet that has more curiosity then a kit and the attitude of a badger.” growled Mike padded over toward a shining silver tunnel like thing. “Sniper I need you here you lazy hairball.” he yowled into it.
“Mouse-dung, this cat is crazy.” laughed Swiftclaw staring bewilded at the black tom. “Yes, even Swiftclaw isn’t this dumb.” Tigerpaw spat giving a murmur of laughter.
Rainpaw shuddered her shoulders. Cheetahfur couldn’t help but feel as if the device was actually a useful thing. Mike pawed away from the tunnel, his hackles rose.
A eerie cry made Cheetahfur’s ears pump more blood. What was the sound he just heard for it sounded like a dying cat. Was the shiny thing some type of calling device or something they had never seen before.
“Hey Mike we are looking for a cat not a object that can’t even move or see or smell.” growled Tigerpaw, his shoulders tensing.
Cheetahfur padded toward Mike. “Please ignore him, for he is just a stupid furball.” growled Swiftclaw laughing hard.
“That is a roof drainer. My owners use it to get rainfall off the roof and down into the ground. I also use it to contact Sniper.” growled Mike. Two large green eyes appeared out of the bushes.
“Now?Who called me.” it spat.
“I did you dumb furball.” growled Mike standing his ground in front of the large hedge like bush. “We all know who you are.” snarled Swiftclaw impatiently. The large dark gray tom stared at the bush. His dark blue eyes were uttering a silent stare of hatred.
A dark brown tom staggered out of the bush. His dark black claws were jagged and untamed. The soothing hatred seemed to appear as he stared at the dark gray tom Swiftclaw.
“Stop staring at me you piece of crowfood.” snapped Swiftclaw instantly. The dark brown tom hesitated then looked confused as if he didn’t understand what crowfood was.
“Never mind.” snorted Swiftclaw stomping his front paw.
Mike pushed in front of the brown tabby tom quickly. “This is the cat I told you about Cheetahfur.” Mike meowed. “This is Sniper the tabby who knows the way to the forest.”
Sniper hesitated then flinched. “I do know the way to that horrible place.” spat Sniper clawing the ground.
“I tried to go into the forest but a kitten just like you chased me out along with a black kitten.” he hissed pointing at Cheetahfur. Cheetahfur stared widely at Sniper. He knew he and Tallfoot had always chased kittypets out of their territory. But he never remembered the way that those cats looked like and usually they would never come back into their territory.
“I don’t understand what you are talking about.” growled Cheetahfur pushing his scrawny weight against the ground. “You know what I mean.” snapped Sniper unsheathing his claws.
“He didn’t threaten you at all, why are you unsheathing your claws.” spat Rainpaw pushing between the two cats. Sniper hesitated.
“You have no say in this you stupid pile of fur.” Sniper hissed slashing her with his hooked claws.
Cheetahfur hissed at the tabby. “You can’t do that to her you nasty grumpy furball.” growled Cheetahfur shoving the brown tabby tom. Sniper snorted then licked his front paw.
“How would you know?” “Cheetahfur” the tabby hesitated then glared at the she-cat.
Rainpaw scrambled to her feet. Blood leaked out of a small but deep cut on her shoulder. Mike stared death defying at her as if he was afraid of what would happen next.
She snarled at Sniper as if a signal to leap at him in return but she held her ground. Cheetahfur nodded.
“We are not here to fight Sniper.” Cheetahfur hissed stepping forward to face the brown tabby. “We will not fight unless that is what you wish.” he added unsheathing his claws to show they weren’t weak from their scrawny bodies.
Mike nodded then padded over toward Cheetahfur. “They only want to go to the forest.” he mewed grievingly. Sniper cringed. “I might as well bring you there I guess.” spat Sniper.
“Thank you Sniper.” meowed Mike pressing himself against the tabby tom. “I may be owned by a human like you but that doesn’t mean I have to act like you and all those other cats at the alley.” Sniper hissed pushing away from Mike.
“Other cats?” meowed Tigerpaw confused. “There are other cats in this place beside us.” hissed Mike angrily.
