FLCL Fan Fiction ❯ thinking ❯ Longer Lasting Extra ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Naota sighed.
The great Haruko had left a long time ago. Five years...was it five years
already? He was already in highschool, memories of his childhood, of
junior high, of the Vespa Woman...

He was alone. At least...that's what he wanted to think. He wanted to
believe that his brother had left him like his mother, his father could
never really be there for him, not like Tasuka was.

He wanted to be misunderstood, that nobody on earth could possibly begin
to understand the hell he'd been put through. It was true though...no one
could understand what he went through. It was too much for a kid his
age...fires, his brother leaving, Canti, school, people, crazy people,
Haruko,...

Haruko...he blushed at the memory. That was lame, stupid, childish,
everything he tried so hard not to be.

He...he remembered the kiss...again. The moment when his mask dropped,
when his facade ceased, when everything was pure, therefore childish...

Maybe that was why Haruko went away. "...you're just a kid," she had said.
For in the end, that's all he was, a little kid trying to be a grown up...

Sitting by the river again. He carried her guitar around. Everywhere.

Hoping maybe it'd be a beacon for her, to guide her back to him.

He sighed.

He had this thought before. Every word, emotion, had been said, felt,
chewed until it was flavorless, but stubborness kept at it, chewing the
stale piece of gum for the memory of its sweetness.

"Haruko..."

He wanted her to be the spark that made his heart beat faster. The strange
girl that brought flavor into his life. But the memory didn't hold the
same sweetness, like the gum, it eventually got stale.

He wouldn't admit to himself that Haruko was just a childhood crush. She
was...too good. She wasn't a toy you loved then put into the attic to
forget.

She was special. She the embodiment of everything he wanted whether he
knew it or not. She was...perfect.

He couldn't think of her as anything less than that.

He'd keep chewing until the day he died.
