Chapter 1
Trowa sighed as he let the letter drop gently to the desk. He buried his head into his hands, and moaned softly as it started to throb in pain. This was too much; he just couldn't take it anymore!
"Here," Heero said in his soothing voice.
Trowa felt a hand on his shoulder, and he wordlessly reached out for the aspirin. Popping it into his mouth, he took a large gulp of water, and sighed once more. Feeling Heero's gaze on him, he held out the letter for him. Heero looked at it for a moment, and then passed it back to Trowa.
"Are you planning to go?" he asked quietly.
"I don't know," Trowa said, a frown marring his face. "I know that they'll think something's wrong if we don't go, but I just can't take it anymore." He sighed and rested his head in his hands once more. "Every time I'm around him, my heart feels like it'd break into a million pieces. Every time we're together, I can feel his false friendliness. I just can't take it!"
Suddenly, Trowa felt Heero's strong arms wrap around him, and he leaned back reflexively. He reached up to grasp Heero's hands and buried his face in the crook of Heero's arm. Sighing as his body started relaxing, he rested there silently. Heero always did this when he knew that Trowa was upset, and Trowa always felt better afterward.
"You can't avoid him forever," Heero murmured softly after a while.
Trowa sighed tiredly and turned his head, as Heero's arms slid off him.
"I won't," he said hesitantly. "I'll think of something, someday. I won't run forever."

The ringing of the vid-phone jolted Trowa from his deep thoughts. Glancing up from his desk, he reached over to the phone on the wall to his right. He pressed the button softly, and was surprised pleasantly at the sight of Wufei's face.
"Trowa," Wufei said, a smile playing on his lips. "It's been a long time."
For the first time in a long time, Trowa let his own smile form on his face.
"Hello, Wufei. It's nice seeing you again." Trowa pulled himself forward and closer to the screen.
"Where were you all those times we've called you, mister?" Duo called out in mock anger from somewhere out of the room. His beaming face popped up momentarily from behind Wufei, but it disappeared just as quickly.
"I have an unusual working schedule, that's all," Trowa said, letting the lie flow smoothly from his lips.
Wufei's smile faltered for a moment, before he pasted it firmly back onto his face.
"So," he began hesitantly, his eyes flickering with some kind of emotion, "how are things with Heero?"
Trowa detected some of Wufei's sadness, but he didn't let any of his thoughts show on his face.
"Everything's fine," he said in a casual voice. "Nothing's changed at all. Do you want to talk to him?"
Wufei quickly shook his head to decline, but Duo's face popped up again, his grin still on his face.
"Definitely! Get that guy on the line!"
Trowa nodded pleasantly, and stood up to find Heero. He slid quietly out of his room, and knocked on Heero's door. His face showed up moments later, and Trowa gestured at the vid-phone.
"Duo and Wufei are on the phone."
Heero's face showed surprise for a moment, before he smoothed it down and hid back into the room. Trowa plodded back into his room and sat back down, smiling as Duo's attention flew to one side of the screen. Wufei was looking down at his feet uncomfortably, as he bit his lip in a nervous gesture.
"Heero!" Duo called out excitedly. "So good to see you again, buddy!" Trowa heard Heero's voice reply similarly to Duo's greeting, although (of course) not as exuberantly. "Hey, are you planning on going to Quat's party? I know that after he failed to find you guys, he mailed you the invitation."
"I don't know," Heero's voice said thoughtfully. "We might not be free on that day."
"Aw, come on, Heero!" Duo said, his violet eyes practically begging Heero. "Wufei and I haven't seen you in the longest time, as well as you!" he added as he turned towards Trowa. Trowa saw Wufei sneaking glances at Heero, which decided it for him.
"I think we can work something out," he said quietly. He could practically feel Heero's questioning glance on him. "We'll see you then, alright?"
Duo grinned at him happily, as he gave them the thumbs-up.
"That's awesome! We have to go now; I can smell the dinner from the kitchen. See you later!" Wufei murmured goodbye as well, and then the line went blank. Trowa sighed as he pressed the button, and sat back in his chair. He heard Heero's door opening quietly and the man's footsteps as they came towards his room.
"Are you sure about this?" Heero asked as he leaned against Trowa's doorframe with his arms crossed.
Trowa ran a hand through his hair and tried not to sigh again.
"He misses you," he said softly, looking up. "I can see it in his eyes."
Heero's own dark blue eyes clouded over with indecision, and he bit his lip softly. Finally, he pushed himself straight up, and sighed as he looked into Trowa's eyes.
"I just hope you won't cause yourself heartbreak."
Trowa shook his head but didn't reply. After all, he didn't have a choice. He wouldn't cause his friends unhappiness just for his own selfish reasons.
"I'll be okay," he said, failing to smile reassuringly. "I'll be careful."
Heero gave him one last worried look before turning to head back into his own room. Trowa exhaled softly and leaned back against his chair. Heero's fears were his own; would his heart break again?
