Chapter4-What happened to Sirius and why Remus went to save him. Part1

"Where have you been Harry?" Sirius asked as his godson walked into the Room of Requirement, everyone from the future was there. "Fred and George were just telling us the story of how they arrived here and what happened when they met errr, younger me... so confusing." Harry looked at the twins with curiosity. "Umm ok, go on then." Harry said settling down between Sirius and Remus. "Well it all started..."

"Kay now that you know our story... Sirius,Remus it’s your turn." The twins said simultamiously. Remus let out a breath "umm where to begin...oh! I know!" Sirius rolled his eyes

"Get on with it won't you Moony?"
"Well I was lying in my room after a meeting with the Order were we where told that Sirius was indeed alive and that basically someone had to go get him, before Harry came back and went himself. And Nymphadora and I decided..."

FLASHBACK-FEB 10th 1997

"Remus?"Tonks said walking into the werewolf’s bedroom. "I'm going to do it." he said so softly that Tonks had barely caught him.

"I'm sorry?"

"I'm going to save Sirius, just like he saved me." He said.

Tonks looked worried. "Dumbledore is going to forbid it y'know."

"I'm going anyway." He said

" Oka...But I'm coming with you."Tonks said quietly.

"NO! You can't!" Remus said sharply.

"Well" Tonks said a mischievous smile crossing her face. "I'm going anyway."

Remus smiled "Thanks Nymph."

Lupin and Tonks looked back at the Order as they waved, Mrs.Weasley had tears in her eyes. Lupin looked up at Tonks and winked at her, and then lead the way into the veil, Mrs.Weasley gave a tremendous sob. That was the last thing they saw of the real world before a strong wind knocked them off their feet and into the veil.

Remus couldn't believe his eyes, it was as if he just stepped into the same exact room he had just left, but this one was darker. Remus knew deep down that this wasn't a place he wanted to be, but he had to save Sirius. This place was strange and seemed to have no color.

"Do you know that your glowing?" Tonks asked Remus thoughtfully seeing a dim light that surrounded him.

"You are to," he said. Tonks looked down to see herself glowing as well. Tonks noticed that Remus looked tired and worn, she felt a surge of guilt, feeling that it was probably her fault.

"So where are we Lupin?" Tonks asked

"I don't understand why you don't call me Remus, it is my name y'know." Smiling at Tonks.

"Sorry Professor."

Remus just sighed. "To tell you the truth I have no idea how this place works."

"Oh well that's comforting," Tonks said sarcastically. "So where do we start to look for the idiotic cousin of mine?"

"Lets just walk" Remus suggested as he began to lead the way through the dark hallway,Tonks was surprised that she could see so easily through the darkness.

After a while of silent walking, Remus realized that he no longer knew where they were. "Is this part of the Ministry?"

"I don't think so, but this isn't my department so I can't say for sure." Tonks replied, "But then again no one really knows what's here except for the dead... and well Sirius."

Tonks can practically see the anticipation in Remus' expression, it gleamed like a dazzling light that reflected in his amber eyes. Remus saw her staring at him and looked at her quizzically. "What's wrong?" He asked. Tonks could tell that he was slightly out of breath.

"Nothing." Tonks said, quickly fixing her gaze at her feet. They walked on in silence, Tonks felt a fresh wave of anxiousness at every corner they faced. Hoping beyond hope that her cousin would be waiting for them on the other side, she didn't know it at the time but Remus felt the same way.

Lupin sighed, "Nymph." He said, "I'm sorry but I have to sit down for a bit." Tonks watched as he lowered himself down onto the cold floor, leaning heavily on the cold stone wall.

"Don't be sorry." She said, "I don't mind." Remus smiled trying to catch his breath, watching Tonks as she to slid down to sit on the floor.

"I want to see Sirius again." Remus said after a long silence.

"Yeah I can't wait to bring my cousin back through the veil." Tonks agreed. Tonks and Remus eventually got up and continued to make their way through this mysterious place.

Watching closely for any signs of Sirius. Tonks noticed Remus was starting to move a lot slower, but she said nothing.

The lack of color was starting to take its toll on Tonks' eyes, everything was now in a sickly green light, and she didn't know if it was her eyes or if the light was real, she decided she wouldn't waste Remus' breath with meaningless questions.

They were now having to stop and rest more frequently, well Tonks was having to stop for Lupin anyway. Tonks was starting to grow concerned and couldn't hold back the questions any longer.

"Remus?" Tonks asked softly as she kneeled in front of him, as he sat breathing heavily against a wall.

"Yes?" He asked softly

"Maybe we should sleep we have been walking for hours." She said sternly, he needed rest and it wasn't as if she was making up excuses they HAVE been walking for at least 12 hours.

"No...time" Lupin panted.

"What do you mean? We have plenty of time." Lupin shook his head. Tonks had a feeling that Remus had left out one or two little details. "Fine...we can sleep for a bit, but not long." Then Remus put his head in his knees and was asleep in seconds, not long after Tonks followed.

Tonks was awaken by Lupin gently shaking her, it was impossible for Tonks to tell but she had a feeling that she hadn't been asleep for very long.

"Lupin?" Tonks asked,

"Call me Remus." Remus said in an offhanded voice as he fiddled with his pockets. "What?"

"Why is there no time for a good sleep?" She asked trying to hold back a yawn but failing.

"Well...we...we." Remus yawned "Only have 96 hours from when we got here, to find Sirius and bring him back." Remus withdrew his hand from his pocket to reveal what he had been searching for. He held what looked like in her opinion a very old pocket watch, but before she could investigate any further he had put it away.

"What was that?" she asked

"Its like a watch, but instead of telling us the time in our world, it tells us the time we have left in this world before the veil closes." He explained.

"So how much time do we have left?" asked Tonks in a worried voice.

"Eighty-five hours and fifty minutes," Lupin replied

"Oh" They slowly got up and made their way down the now slanting hallway. Tonks tried not to let the lack of light, dampen her spirits, and could see that Remus was trying to do the same. Every so often, he would try to start up a cheerful conversation talking about the times he had spent with Sirius and the other Marauders' , but the memories were always cut short because he couldn't bare to speak about it any longer. In the middle of one of those conversations, Remus had stopped dead. Tonks had been looking at Remus, when she turned her head, she saw that the hall had ended and what stood before them was quite unexpected.
