Harry Potter - Series Fan Fiction ❯ A Thousand Words Paint a Picture ❯ Where the Heart Is ( Chapter 10 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Vernon was sixteen when he and several mates from school decided to spend their summer holiday gallivanting 'round the south of England. During their jaunt in Cornwall, he saw Virginia standing in front of a delicatessen.

Before he put thought to action, he was approaching her, calling her name. He could tell that she didn't recognize him straight away, but her skin turned chalky once she did.

"Don't faint, I won't catch you," he informed her coldly. "Just tell me why."

"Because you enjoyed hurting that boy, the way your dad enjoyed hurting me."

He had never hated anyone more.

Thank you for reading these drabbles. I hope they've maybe lent a new perspective on Vernon Dursley's past. It just goes to show that you can sympathize with the child while abhorring the man. I have other observations on Vernon that didn't make it into this collection, so a sequel of sorts is in the works. For now, be well!
