Hellsing Fan Fiction ❯ Unburied ❯ Unburied ( One-Shot )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Disclaimer: None of this is mine. Based off the manga.

Notes: Trying to get as close to a real drabble as I possibly could. Missing scene for Volume 7. Sort of. Alucard's a sick little bastard. Opening quote is Jacob Glatstein, from a Yom Kippur machzor.

Strangers' eyes don't see
how in my small room I open a door
and begin my nightly stroll among the graves.
(How much earth - if you call it earth - does it take to bury smoke?)

He remembered the smoke. It had been like this some fifty years ago, in Germany, when Hellsing had loosed him on these same cheap villains in wolf's clothing. Thick, clinging, choking, making those around him cough and gasp for air and take refuge behind handkerchiefs that were already saturated with soot themselves. Debris kicked up by bombs and by plodding footfalls, by hundreds of terrified souls in the heart of a war-torn land.

He had not needed to breathe then; he did not need to now. Unperturbed by the ash falling around him and by a new generation of terrified souls, he followed the insistent call deep into the heart of the city. His Master was waiting.
