"TAO!?" Came a bellow from downstairs.

The person in question sat up in his bed and groggily wiped the sleep from his eyes. Opening them up again, he found his uncle standing at the end of his bed, breathing hard. "What's up uncle?"

" 'What's up?'…he says----I'LL TELL YOU WHAT'S UP!" Inuyasha yelled, stepping closer to his nephew. Tao's eyes widened in realization and he scrambled to the opposite side of the bed.

"Uncle! I---I swear I was going to do it! I just…haven't gotten around to it!" He assured, taking off to the other side of the bed when Inuyasha climbed over the mattress towards him.

"Yeah…you'd better…I'm practically dying!" Inuyasha growled.

Tao sighed and walked over to his computer. He typed in a couple of things before turning back to his uncle. "There. I've got all 5 boxes of Ramen on express order so they should be here in less than 2 days. Happy?"

"Very…now. What about this banquet thing of your dad's tonight?" Inuyasha asked, leaning against a bed post.

"What about it? 's going to be lame as hell." Tao said, slumping into his swivel computer chair.

"Yeah…but didn't your dad want you to ask your mom for her to come?"

"Yeah…" Tao sighed. "I told him that if he wanted mother to come…then he would have to ask her himself."

"Oooh…that one's a blow to the fluff-meister's dignity…" Inuyasha mumbled, silently enjoying Sesshoumaru's discomfort.

"I don't want to go. All the people invited are too old for me to talk with…and I don't want to be a burden on my father's nerves." Tao said quietly, looking out of the window at the light snowfall.

Inuyasha yawned and sighed. He suddenly grinned.

"Oi! I've got an idea…"

Sesshoumaru paused his hand directly above his phone. Should he call her? What'll happen if she refuses to attend? He would look like an idiot…refused by his own wife.

But then again…he completely deserved it. He was an ass…he could completely understand why Kagome would refuse to be seen with an idiot such as he.

Closing his eyes and leaning back, a sudden flash of a memory came into mind and he readily delved into it…

***Flashback***

"Come on Sesshou! You're going to the miss the ferry!" Kagome waved and smiled, standing quite a ways ahead of him. They were currently on a trip that they'd decided to take as a getaway when Sesshoumaru graduated from college. Kagome had just turn 17 and he 24. They'd been married for almost a year.

He smirked at the sight of his wife and mate, as she bent down to pet a black and white dog that was wildly wagging his tail and licking her hand. It was extremely dirty, it's fur was matted with dirt and burs and it looked as if it hadn't eaten in weeks.

Almost as if she'd read his mind, his mate, stood up straight and unwrapped a breaded pretzel she'd purchased a few moment before and bent down, giving it to the dog. It eyed it for a moment before hungrily snatching it from her fingers. She giggled and bent down next to it, scratching its ears as it wolfed the bread down.

He, Sesshoumaru, walked up behind his mate and nudged her foot with his. She looked up and smiled.

"Can we keep 'em, Sess?" She asked, hope easily distinguishable in her eyes. He shook his head.

"Kagome…you know how I feel about animals…especially cats." He answered pulling her into his arms. She sighed and watched as the dog took off down the street, probably in hopes of finding some stray food for him.

"I know…but…" She said, pausing to move her body so her belly was pressed against his. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and he wrapped his around her back, clasped together and resting on the small of her lower back. "…have you ever thought about having some animals of our own?"

He quirked an eyebrow. "Children? The thought has crossed my mind a fair few times. Why?" He asked, looked down at her eager face.

"Well…I was hoping to tell you when we got back home…but I guess being in one of the most romantic cities in the world will suffice, don't you think?" (A/N: They're currently in Rome, Italy.)

He quirked an eyebrow again and waited for her to continue. "What is it?"

She only sported one of those blinding smiles, one of those rare ones that she only shared with him. She leaned up and hugged him closer to her. She giggled and wiggled excitedly in his arms. "I'm pregnant Sesshoumaru…"

****End Flashback****

He remembered that day well. He'd been so overly speechless that Kagome nearly called the police in hopes of taking him to a hospital.

A child…he'd thought. A child made from him and the woman of his heart…part him, part her. A hanyou… That part had made him pause in his thoughts. Would he be able to deal with that…? Having a son or daughter like his worthless younger brother?

Kagome had proven to him that he could…and he did. Tao was his pride and joy of his entire life, second to Kagome, of course. He was so perfect. The most magnificent thing he'd ever received in his entire life.

He would give up his wealth and entire life, to keep his family in safe arms.

So what was he doing…letting Kagome divorce him like this? He should still be the dominate one in this relationship…but that was officially taken away from him when he'd been foolishly seduced into the bed of Kagura.

Pausing slightly…he glanced back at the phone and sighed. Leaning forward, he hesitated once again, before picking it up and putting it to his ear.

He'd do it.

Kagome was currently yawning and switching Cho to her other breast. The little beast was suckling her dry! She smiled down at her daughter when the child looked up from her mother's breast, with big blue eyes.

"How's my little Cho-Cho?" She babbled, tweaking her daughters nose. Cho looked away and continued to suckle from her mother.

Kagome sighed and sat back in her seat and closed her eyes. Suddenly the telephone rang and she groaned. Sitting forward, she gently situated Cho in her arms before standing and entering the kitchen where the phone was.

"Hello?" She asked, settling the phone between her ear and shoulder, so she could hold Cho with both arms.

"Kagome?"

Kagome's breath hitched in her throat and she swallowed before answering.

"Y-yes? What do you need Sesshou…maru?" She asked, quickly adding the rest of his name to her habitual nickname.

"I…How are you?" He asked.

Kagome's eyes softened at the sound of his quiet voice. He sounded so withdrawn.

"I'm well. How about you? You sound like you're Johnny Raincloud…" She smiled gently.

"Well…I was hoping that you'd accompany this Sesshoumaru to a merging banquet I'm holding here at the hou—at my house." He said pausing to change his words.

Kagome felt a lump form in her throat at the mentioning of the old house.

"Why're you asked me? Wouldn't you like to go with Kagura or your secretary or something?" She asked, regretting the words as soon as they came from her mouth.

There was a long pause before he took a deep breath, no doubt to control the anger welling up deep in him, and then spoke in a strained voice.

"No…Kagura is no longer meddling with my life. And Rin? I have no interest in Rin."

Kagome closed her eyes and suddenly gasped.

"What is it?" Sesshoumaru asked, concern completely evident in his voice.

"Oh…it was nothing. Cho's feeding right now and she pinched own a little too hard with those tiny teeth of hers, didn't you?" She asked, directing the last bit down to her drowsing daughter.

"How…is she?" Sesshoumaru asked.

Kagome felt sorry for him. He was seriously not used to speaking conversations such as this over the phone. He truly sounded…lonely. Brushing her thoughts away, she answered.

"She's doing wonderful actually. She's keeping me up every night…" She laughed, earning a small grin, she was unaware of, from Sesshoumaru. "She's beginning to turn herself over in the crib."

"That's good…" He answered, truly happy hearing about another piece of him that he'd created.

"Sesshoumaru? Are you sure you're okay? You sound really out it."

"…I am fine. I just haven't been able to sleep lately because work has been hold me down." He answered only semi-truthfully.

Kagome sighed and bit her lip before coming to a conclusion. "What time is the banquet tonight?"

"It begins at 5 p.m. and goes until 11: 30…" He answered.

Kagome nodded and looked at the clock. "I suppose…I can come. I'll have to bring Cho with, because no one's here to watch her."

"That's fine. I actually wanted you to bring her." He answered.

Kagome sighed again and sat down into a kitchen chair.

"I will have Jaken come to and pick you up at 4. Tao is needing someone to make him come as well."

"I suppose you've already tried?" She smiled.

A grunt was her answer. A loud screech was heard from her arms and she looked down the see a red faced and grunting Cho.

"Listen…I've got to go. Cho just decided it was the most convenient time to soil herself. I'll see you and Tao tonight then?" She said, turning back to the wall were the phone was to hang.

"Yes…good-bye Kagome." Sesshoumaru said, hanging up.

Kagome waited until a dial tone was heard before hanging up herself. She then looked down at her wiggling daughter stuck her tongue out.

"You just HAD to poop right when I was talking to your father, didn't you?" She asked, taking Cho up to her bedroom for a clean diaper.

Tao sighed and frowned at the sight of himself wearing a pair of dress slacks and a dress shirt, that was tucked in and looking nice.

"I hate dressing up." He grumbled.

"Tell me about it? I had to do this practically everyday of my life!" His uncle groaned from his seat at his nephew's computer.

"Are you sure your idea's going to work? I mean…the chances of it 'actually' going to plan is like…slim to none." Tao asked, attempting to loosen his tie from around his neck.

"Trust me…they'll fall for it like a moth to a flame…" Inuyasha assured, checking his email.

Tao grumbled and sat on the edge of his bed. "I hate that analogy…"

"Then change it. Make something up! Now stop talking! I can't read a damn thing straight with you jabbering like a monkey with a barrel of bananas!" His uncle growled, glancing over his shoulder at the other hanyou on the bed.

"Analogy…let's see…" Tao thought. He suddenly grinned.

"Like a hanyou to a bowl of Ramen…"

"Keh."

Kagome climbed from the back of the limo with Cho sleeping on her shoulder. She reached in, only to be stopped by the short little green man. "Do not worry about the bags, mistress. I'll bring them up myself."

"Oh…that's all right Jaken. I actually need to change Cho's diaper again so…I can take it." She smiled, reaching in and shouldering a diaper bag.

She turned away from the limo and paused to look up at the larger mansion she'd only lived in up until 5 or so months ago. She was currently dressed in a pair of black 3 inch stilettos and a yellow haltered dress that splayed out when it passed her hips; stopping right above her knees. Her hair was pulled into a simple low ponytail that spilled down the bare of her back.

Slowly, she made her way up the marble steps and hesitated before turning the brass doorknob. Inside, there were about a million vassals and maids buzzing around carrying vases full of exotic flowers, chairs, and such.

She didn't know where Sesshoumaru would be…so she decided to try his office. Walking down the hallway and shifting a sleeping Tao to her other shoulder, she gently knocked on the door. When she got no answer, she gently twisted the knob open and entered the warm study. Flipping a light on, when she realized she couldn't see a thing, she paused and stopped in her tracks at the sight before her.

…soft…so nice smelling. Lavender…or was it lilac? No…it was lavender…

Kagome…?

"Sesshou?"

Hmmm?

"SESSHOU!"

Opening his eyes he had to let them focus for a moment before he was able to register where he was. Lifting his head, he felt something crinkle on the side of face, which turned out to be a piece of paper. He removed it, grimacing when he realized that he must've been drooling. A sound in his study brought his attention away from his idiocy to the woman smiling gently down in front of him.

"Wake up sleepy head…" Kagome smiled, crossing her tanned arms over the swell of her enlarged bosom.

Sesshoumaru still wasn't understanding what was happening around him and he took a moment to go back in his thoughts. Kagome beat him to it.

"Remember you invited me to your banquet tonight?" She asked.

"Oh…yes. I apologize." He said, shaking his head and standing up.

Kagome giggled. "You look so out of it. Why'd you tell me you were fine on the phone?"

He shrugged, it was the only thing he could do for his attention was drawing to the small leather loveseat behind Kagome. His daughter Cho, was resting peacefully in a swarm of blankets, her little black ears twitching every so often.

He swallowed and looked up at Kagome who smiled. "You want to hold her?"

He nodded and stepped up next to her. She gently lifted the slumbering hanyou babe from her temporary bed and handed him to her mate. Sesshoumaru trembled slightly when Cho was place into his arms. He wasn't used to holding a child any longer.

Looking down at her soft silvery tresses and then his own, he sighed, happy knowing that something was inherited from him. She was so tiny. Such a fragile creature that could be shattered at any moment if held the wrong way. She was perfect… and he felt like the luckiest man…demon…in the entire world to have the privilege at holding something so wonderful.

A knock at the door drew both of their attention away from the babe in his arms and to whoever it was on the other side. "Come in." He grunted.

The door slowly swung open and revealed a nicely dressed Tao and a grumpy looking Inuyasha.

"Mother? What're you doing here?" Tao asked, stopping when he saw her.

"Your father called and invited me." Kagome smiled and nodded towards an oblivious Sesshoumaru. He was too busy still looking at the amazing creature in his arms.

"Oh…"

"I see that you don't need any persuading to come. Your father mentioned that you didn't want to go." She continued.

Tao shrugged and looked over at his father. "Can I hold her?" He asked a small smile teasing his lips. Sesshoumaru looked up and looked as if Tao was crazy. Kagome noticed as well and she stepped forward placing a gentle hand on his forearm.

"It's all right Sesshoumaru…he's held her before." She reassured him.

Sesshoumaru looked back to his son, then down to his sleeping daughter. He seemed reluctant to lose the bundle in his arms so soon. He nonetheless nodded and motioned for Tao to sit down.

"Keh." Inuyasha sniffed, crossing his arms, all the while eyeing the baby with curious looks.

Tao held Cho close to him and he smiled. 'My little sister…' He liked the ring to it.

"Inuyasha. You are to attend the gathering as well." Sesshoumaru ordered.

"Oh but---" Inuyasha began only to be cut off with a nudge in the ribs by Kagome. "---Whatever."

Kagome smiled and nodded.

'What am I doing here!?' She berated herself.

Thank you to everyone who's reviewed! And to everyone who's sent me death threats! I absolutely love those because it makes me laugh at the ways people try and think of ways to kill me or threaten me! Just so long you guys don't really kill me…that would be a BIG no-no.
