Kagome sat at the small table staring at the fresh sheet of parchment. She knew what she wanted to say and yet the brush in her hand remained motionless. She used her free hand to count out the syllables of the words that came to mind.
“Tied without chains…no. Caught without net…no. Arrrrg!” It was only three stupid lines, seventeen syllables, what could possibly be so hard about that, and yet, they had more frustrated that Inu Yasha in one of his moods. If only she could make the words submit as easily.
Lowering the calligraphy brush into the ink pot, Kagome froze. She could hear the soft swish of silk the always preceded him. Sesshomaru was coming. Before she could conceal her failed attempts he was kneeling at her side smoothing out the crumbled pages.
“You have been attempting to compose a haiku.”
Kagome felt her cheeks flush. She had hoped to surprise him with her completed traditional poem during their evening tea.
“They're a little harder to write than I thought,” she sighed looking back at the blank paper that stared up at her.
“Not so difficult,” he countered, taking her chin between his thumb and forefinger, “with the right inspiration.”
She gave no resistance as he turned her head to face him and leaned in to claim her lips unexpectedly.
“Lips slightly parted/ An invitation to more/ Offer accepted”
Kagome felt her body respond strongly to both his words and the lingering heat of his kiss. Her haiku would have to wait.
