"Life Is But A Dream" ~ Chapter 1

Hoku Karuna Itara is 16 years old. She lives on her own in the woods. Unknown to
her or anyone else, Hoku carries three shards of the Shikon Jewel in her forehead. She
has gotten along fine, but her life takes a strange new turn when she meets a half-
demon dog, Inuyasha and a human girl, Kagome Higurashi.

I sat and meditated under a tree deep in the woods, feeling quite at peace. All
of a sudden, I heard the sound of footsteps running. I got up and looked around from
behind the tree, only to be knocked down by someone or something. I opened my eyes
and saw two yellow eyes staring back at me. My face became hotter by the minute.
The golden eyes grew wider and the owner of the eyes was blushing as well.
"Inuyasha!"
A girl's voice called out. I quickly got out from under the person and brushed myself
off. I now could get a better look at the one who knocked me down. He had on a red
kimono, long silvery-white hair, white dog ears, sharp claws at the end of his fingers,
and of course… those handsome golden eyes. Just then, a girl with long black hair
came through the trees.
"There you are. Did you find anything?"
The girl asked the one she called Inuyasha. He looked back at me.
"No."
"Who's that?"
The girl looked over at me.
"My name is Hoku Karuna Itara."
I smiled.
"I'm Kagome Higurashi. And this is Inuyasha."
She pointed over to her friend.
"Excuse me Miss Kagome, but what manner of being is your friend?"
Kagome giggled to herself.
"Inuyasha is a half demon."
I glanced over at him with curiosity. A half demon? How strange.
"Hello Inuyasha."
I greeted him, bowing my head in respect. The demi-demon was still blushing a little
from when he ran into me.
"Hi. Uh- sorry for hitting you, I guess."
He answered back.
"No apology necessary. It was merely an accident."
Just then, my forehead began to hurt. I fell to my knees and groaned in pain. My head
was pounding.
"What's wrong?"
Kagome asked, coming closer to me. She laid me on my back and looked to Inuyasha,
while trying to keep me still.
"Inuyasha, see if you can find what's wrong."
Inuyasha grumbled, but reluctantly kneeled down and examined my face with his
eyes. My head began to pound again, this time it hurt even more. I cried out, causing
my bangs to part and reveal my forehead. Both Kagome and Inuyasha's eyes widened.
"Three shards of the Shikon Jewel!"
Kagome said in awe.
