In Your Arms
He'd never thought too much on it, at first.
Because he'd seen her triumph five hundred years, and she'd always come back, or gone forward.
But now…
When they lived together, when they'd learned to stay, when they'd learned it was okay to love each other, no matter the time, or age, or anything that might keep others apart, they'd grown.
That was the problem, though, wasn't it?
She grew. She blossomed. He watched her turn from teenager to woman to elder.
He'd been granted fifty extra years of peaceful slumber, but what had she gotten?
And there she was, her hair as silver as his, eyes still bright, and she kissed him one final time.
Time. That was a joke.
He still had a century to go, or longer, or shorter, or… It didn't matter much, did it?
He stood at her grave, watching the rain beat down on the flowers he'd lain, and he thought…
What if time had frozen?
For him, it had.
And he watched them grow, play, grow, blossom, grow, grow, grow…
Until finally his final days reached him.
He breathed a sigh of relief.
It was his last.
