Chapter 6

Kagome explains it all

After everyone was situated Kagome began to tell her account of what happened except for those treating the injured woman.

Kagome’s POV.

After uncle Kiyoshi dropped Shippo and I off at my friend Eri’s apartment complex she drove us to the park where we were going to meet Lt. Ayumi and Eri’s boyfriend Ryu, from there we were going to see a movie then Wacdonald’s.

Any ways we arrived at the park and waited. Eri sat on a bench and I took Shippo to the playground. After a little while we heard Eri scream and then a crash so we ran to see what was wrong. When I arrived I saw Shippo checking Eri, who had been hit, it was to late. I felt my eyes burn but willed the tears back. Now wasn’t the time. While Shippo stayed with Eri, I went to check on the people inside the military transport truck the door came open and Lt. Ayumi stumbled out holding her shoulder which sported a fresh bite wound. On seeing this Shippo and I ran to her and helped her to her feet. While we did that we asked what happened.

Ayumi told us the just before she and Ryu got a chance to meet us, they got a call to where we met Seta-san. When they arrived it seemed like a normal sweep until some of the men where attacked by what were originally thought to be survivors until they got a good look at them. They seemed to be a mix of things, and they wore body armor that had the symbol of some military unit. She said she thinks the normal zombies were bait used by these things. They seemed to think like living beings. I couldn’t help but ask my uncle if one of his scientist friends where tweaking the virus he said her doubted it but he’d ask around.

I ran my hands through my hair and took a shaky breath. It was time for the harder part. I knew everyone on this sweeper team and so did everyone here except Soujiro who was watching me with a cool interest, that small creepy smile of his gracing his lips.

Ayumi, she told me that they didn’t stand a chance. Everyone but her were ripped apart. She didn’t leave unscathed, One of the zombies was able to get a hold of her and claw a peace of her. She fought her way free and barely made it to the transport and made her escape. She was going to go back to base and get treated when she spotted some observation drones following. The attack had been monitored so she decided to head for our meeting. When she got to the park she lost control of the truck when a now dead Ryu attacked her from behind. Causing her to swerve into the tree. She didn’t see Eri trying to get out of the way. During the time she was telling me what happened, Shippo got the truck started again. Told me that no one else was in the vehicle, just a lot of blood. I told him to look around for Ryu but he was already gone from the park. I called the sweeper base on my cell and told them I had an injured agent , my friend was dead, and a zombie Ryu was on the loose and gave them our location. When I hung up I noticed Shippo watching something. Fallowing his gaze I saw one of those drones observing us. Ayumi. Started to freak and insisted we take her here. So I prayed for Eri and left a note giving our location. We hopped into the transport and now, here we are. I averted my eyes to the table, I know the way I said that sounded almost heartless but unfortunately my time in the warring states period had hardened me a bit. I clenched my fist when my mother put her hand on my shoulder. I couldn’t help but feel wrong about leaving Kenshin’s address, since he works for them as an investigator. I was brought out of my thoughts by Seta.

“Miss Kagome?”

“Yeah?”

“May I have a word?”

I look up at him. “Ok, Shoot.”

Soujiro’s brow creases, and wonder of wonders he looks confused.

“Shoot?”

Oops , I forgot he’s not from this time.

“Go ahead and ask Seta-san?

He takes a deep breath.

“Why is it that young Shippo has a tail?”

I’m about to answer when Shippo saves me the trouble.

“I’m a fox demon. The other me was an illusion. I changed back cause I got excited.”

Soujiro nods.

”That explains your behavior when first met, thank you Shippo.”

The kit yawns and curls up on my lap. He’ll be to big for that soon. Soujiro then returns his attention to me.

“Kagome, I had an interesting talk with Souta. He explained to me that your families shrine has an old well through which you were able to go through time to the warring states era, Is this true?”

“Yeah, I was talking about that when I said I’d help you.”

Soujiro leans forwards slightly,

“It will take me to my time?”

I think over his question, then sigh.

“I don’t know Soujiro, it hasn’t worked for awhile.”

He watches me run my fingers Shippo’s hair.

“Not since after Miroku and Sango’s wedding.”

I watch Soujiro cock his head and I can’t help but blush.

“Sorry, I have a tendency to babble.”

He closes his eyes and gives me a cheerful smile.

“Quite alright.”

“If you excuse me, I have to put Shippo to bed.”

We both rise to our feet. I smile at him and bow slightly.

“I’ll be back shortly.”

And I take my leave.
