Sometimes, when no one was watching,
He would say her name like a caress,
each syllable in the air a lover's touch,
Ka go me,
A sound like sunlight after days of cloud,
A sound like the gentle laughter in her blue-gray eyes,
A sound like hope for a wounded heart,
The sound of his love,
held tight to his chest,
breathed like a sigh.

Sometimes, when he didn't know she was there,
she heard him say it,
and smiled.
