-Chapter Eight-
“St. Axel, huh?” Axel asked.
King Mickey IV nodded. “And yes, it was named for you.”
Axel smiled, proudly.
“Why St. Axel?” Sora asked.
“Because of Axel's unceasing work in trying to set you four free for the past one hundred years.” King Mickey IV explained.
“Why did it take you a hundred years?” Sora wanted to know.
“My core temperature was lowered by the ice encasing me,” Axel explained. “So my fire wasn't as hot as it normally gets. Once Demyx and I were free, and my temperature was back to normal, freeing you and Riku took a matter of minutes.”
“Now that you are free,” King Mickey IV told them, “it is time for you to make your way to the town of St. Axel where you will find a man named Laguna. He is Leon's grandson, named for his great-grandfather, Laguna Loire.”
Sora nodded in understanding.
“The train will take you to Yen Sid's tower where you will be given the new clothes and items you will need on your journey.” King Mickey IV told them. “After that, you will take your new gummi ship to St. Axel.”
* * * *
It took the train only two hours to reach Yen Sid's world from Destiny Islands, or rather what was left of Destiny Islands.
“So, at last the four warriors have awakened.” Yen Sid looked at them with interest. “First and foremost, your clothes. None of you have gotten any bigger, so Riku and Sora are both fine as they are. But Axel and Demyx will need new garments. In the next room, the three fairies who designed Sora's current outfit will create proper clothes for them.”
“We're ready!” Merriweather called through the door. “Demyx first, please?”
Demyx stepped through the door.
“Oh, my,” Flora tutted, “that'll never do.”
“Indeed not,” Fauna agreed. “Organization XIII robes just won't do anymore.”
“So what else am I supposed to wear?” Demyx asked.
Merriweather smiled. “Well…” she said, pointing her wand at him.
A moment later, Demyx was dressed in a jumpsuit. It was blue with a deeper blue belt and boots. Across the chest, from the left shoulder to the right hip, was a cresting wave pattern.
Flora and Fauna were about to put in their two cents when Demyx held up a hand.
“This is fine,” he told them. “I like it a lot. I think it suits me.”
“Fine,” Flora pouted.
Fauna nodded, sulkily.
“Tell Axel we're ready for him,” Merriweather instructed.
Demyx stepped out of the back room and nodded to Axel.
Axel, who understood without Demyx saying a word, walked into the back room, checking out Demyx as he passed him.
“Nice,” he purred.
A moment later he reemerged from the back room. He was dressed in a jumpsuit similar to Demyx's. But instead of blue, it was flame colored. And instead of a wave across the front, the pattern was all flames curving in and upward from each side so that it looked like Axel was standing in the middle of a whirling firestorm.
Demyx smiled at Axel when he reemerged from the back room.
“Elegant,” he praised.
