Axel’s p.o.v.

I paused as I reached the doors to our living room, which we called
the Altar of Naught. The rest of my family was in there. Organization
XIII was my family. I decided to keep my head down nonetheless.

I felt my cheeks burn as I entered the room. Some of the Organization
was sitting around the fire, and others were standing, including Roxas.
I drew in a sharp breath. Roxas.

“Are you sure you don’t remember anything you want to tell us?” I saw
Xemnas and Xaldin shouting at Roxas. My heart pained for him.

“Nothing, I told you!” Roxas’ voice was like music to my ears. “There’s
only one thing I remember,” Roxas told his superiors.

“Would you just tell us already?” spat Xemnas. His short temper was very
apparent. I wanted to know what they were questioning Roxas about, but
before I could think twice about it, I noticed that he had turned towards
me. He stared at me with such ferocity that I thought I might explode.
The world seemed to melt away before me as we started at each other. Roxas’
face was cemented into a deep scowl.

“Well, are you going to tell us what exactly you learned from the Keyblade?
What do you remember?” yelled Xaldin.

“I told you, there’s only one thing I remember,” said Roxas coolly. He didn’t
break eye contact with me. “Unfortunately, I doubt it’s of any importance
to you,” he said curtly to Xemnas and Xaldin. Roxas began to walk away
from them, towards the door. Towards me.

“Axel,” Roxas said to me with a nod.

“Roxas,” I said as he walked by. I felt my chest tighten as he had said
my name. I turned to watch him as he exited the room. Before I could
stop myself, I found myself standing next to him at the door. “Wait,” I said.

“What?” asked Roxas.

“I’ll get the door,” I said with a smile.

“Thanks, best friend,” he said to me. Best friend, he called me. The extra
second it took me to process what he had called me was the second he used
to bolt out the door and run down the hallway, unnoticed by me.

“Roxas! Roxas, wait! Wait!” I ran after him; he was so fast I thought
I might not catch him. When I finally caught up with him I grabbed his
shoulder, maybe a little too hard. “Hey Roxas?”
